Is there any difference in the swing path for down-the-line and cross court? Do you alter the wrist based on where you want to direct the ball? Or do you maintain the same wrist angle and swing path and it all depends on the timing of when you contact the ball?
I'd start with checking how your hip mobility is. Often things get stuck or are not strong enough so consider where those areas might be for you. Often where it hurts is not the root of the problem, it's just the area getting overworked because something else isn't working properly. This is something to consult with your doctor about.
Thanks for the video Jordon. I have been working real hard on my ground strokes both forehand and backhand. In both, Im having a lot of trouble keeping the ball in unless I drastically reduce my pace. I make pretty solid contact consistently which adds to the pace. I can put some top spin on my shots and get them to dive (outdoor) but still its risky. I have to be just couple inches above the net to get some good power and keep the ball in. Im thinking its possible that I am mis interpreting the pace of these balls from the videos.
My problem is that when I and my opponents are at the NVZ line and I have to hit a drive I hit too much with my arm,. I can't seem to hit with my shoulder. I guess because by the time I contact the ball it is too close to my body.
PrimeTime Pickleball l really enjoy your videos and appreciate your quick responses. I’m having a problem with my backhand slice return, in ping pong it seems to work very well but in Pickleball it seems to “float” and ends up long often?
Jordan - My 10 year old son is running up too close to the ball or over running to hit his backhand. Contact is too close to the body and I don't know what to tell him. I'm aware he's 10 and I've kept it fun and encouraging. How do I get him to plant his front foot in the right place with relation to where the contact will be?
Hi! Throw some rubber circles down where his feet should be and have him stand in those circles. Then drop feed the ball from your hand at the right distance. Do this for maybe 10 minutes or so each time you go out to play until it’s natural for him. Once he gets comfortable with the right distance from a stationary position, he will likely naturally negotiate that position on the move as well. Hope that helps! This is Nicole btw, Jordan hasn’t been involved with this channel for some time. Thanks for the question.
Having a slight upward stroke is a good tip for racquetball players. Nice points about footwork as well. Hitters should watch the ball hit their paddle to make sure they don't misjudge the speed/drop.
In the video Jordan extends his nonpaddle hand as he should but he does not mention it. Here Deb tells you its importance in Pickleball: Mastering the Backhand, Deb Harrison blob:ruclips.net/user/2f97fad1-b90a-4a67-8671-12e34d770a2a
Don't you think a slice backhand return is more effective in pickleball verses flat or topspin? I know if you are going to drive a 3rd shot with a backhand you should probably hit it flat or with a little topspin, but it seems like I see more pro players returning with a slice backhand. In my opinion if you are hitting a 3rd shot with your backhand you should pretty much always drop it unless the return is short and sitting up a bit. Do you disagree with any of this?
For almost all my returns I hit with a slice. Although it is good to always mix up your returns as well. It is also good to have a driving backhand and forehand, for those short returns
Ok I figured that you did. The reason I mentioned it was because you hit only flat/topspin backhands in this video. The return is basically the only time I hit a groundstroke. I prefer to hit slice on both fh and bh returns, but I do sometimes hit forehand returns with topspin. Yes as I said in my first comment the best time to use a drive is when you are given a short return. You do agree that while hitting a 3rd shot with a backhand playing a drop is the best option a vast majority of the time don't you?
You’re following through ACROSS your body. Different than tennis, where we follow through toward the target staying sideways the whole time. I notice your paddle face ends up sort of over your right shoulder. Maybe this is what I need for more pace. Also I need to speed up the paddle face.
I think it’s very much like tennis in that you have to hit through the ball and then finish around and over by the right shoulder to finish with you arm full extended.
It cracks me up when Jordan is trying to demo bad mechanics. Even when he's trying to demonstrate bad mechanics, he has a better swing and rotation than the strokes he is criticizing. He can't help himself. Lol
I like many of your vids, but almost all are way too repetitive, with Jordan taking 5 mins or more to make a point that requires 1 minute. I know repetition has value but this vid is a perfect example of repetition gone wild......

Thank you, Jordan for this lesson ... applied this to this morning's practice and saw good results ... as long as you setup in time
Nice!! 👏🏻
Jordan your groundstrokes are so pure
Do you have to ever deal with lower left hip/back soreness? Any ideas in posture or striking technique to minimize that? Thanks!

Yes Dan. I think if you can keep your drives low and take some pace off, that’s a good start. That’s better than driving hard high balls.
Should go low or high over the net? Thanks
In doubles, low is usually best at almost all times.
@@primetimepickleball Okay..thanks
Your videos are very helpful, now show me how you spin that paddle, I love it 😎
😊

Thank you for this video! Easy and simple to understand.
😊
When you make contact are you using a little top spin?
Yes, this is a topspin stroke.

I would have to see it, but keep practicing. Also, check out our backhand slice video!
Are you using continental grip?
Not always. Watch these two videos for clarification on grips:

ruclips.net/video/NJUKLbzM0Bo/видео.html
What paddle is that?
Elite Pro Maverick Pickleball Paddle by engage.
What tennis grip are you using for the backhand? (Eastern? continental?)
On a backhand drive…typically an Eastern backhand grip
Which grip do you use? I’m struggling to find the right grip for a good, consistent backhand ground stroke.
Eastern backhand grip
man... I wish I had a backhand like that. I either hit it a 100 miles an hour or into the net.
Keep working on it !
beautiful backhand
thanks!😎
Very helpful video...thanks
You’re welcome Betty!

Yes

Notice you keep your head down through contact. Important element?
Yes!
Is that edge guard tape on you paddle. I have been looking for colored tape, where do you buy it from?
Home Depot, Lowe’s or Amazon!
What about grip?
Eastern backhand grip. As seen at 5:31 in this video ruclips.net/video/NJUKLbzM0Bo/видео.html
Awesome!

Helpful, but we don't need the invisible voice narrator or 70 seconds of intro. Guess that's a by-product of the 21st century short attention span.
