Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750)
Minuet in G major from Anna Magdalena Bach's notebook.
The comopsition of this minuet is now generally attributed to Christian Petzold (1677-1733).
The primary melody theme was adapted and used in the 1965 hit pop song: "A lover's concerto" by the group The Toys.
Played on a John Morley clavichord by AM Koster.
Baroque pitch A=415 hz.
The historic tuning temperament used is Kirnberger III.
This is beautiful. What is the difference between a chlavicord and a harpsichord?
The main difference is that strings are hit in a clavichord, and strings are plucked in a harpsichord. The harpsichord can create a louder sound, clavichords are quieter and more ideal as instruments for private homes. With a clavichord it is possible to affect the volume when hitting a key, while a harpsichord's volume remains constant no matter how hard or softly you hit a key. Harpsichords take up a lot more room than clavichords and are not as portable
Plus, a clavichord can produce vibrato, not a lot, but a little.
That's a neat guitar.
This is Petzold's work. It was included in Anna Magdalena Bach's Notebook. So, lots of people think it was composed by Bach, but it wasn't 🙂
The same incorrect attribution was historically given to other pieces from Anna Magdalena’s book, and this attitude festered into a number of beginners books, even to this day. On the other hand Henle managed to did justice by stating the right composers and also clarifying what was included in the book and what was not. That said, excellent performance.
Thanks, you even know the actual composer, I only knew it was not Bach😊
And it is attributed to JSB in string instrument books, even those quite recently published. And don't get me started on Lully's gavotte, Purcell's Trumpet tune, etc!!! @@incontrariomotu8902
Actually it's too fun to be composed by the great JSB ^^
Lo si trova anche nel libro il mio primo Bach .Re sol la si do re sol sol mi,do re mi fa sol ecc
A beautiful , powerful and bright tone in such a compact instrument
I honestly didn’t know that this wasn’t composed by Bach. I’ll have to look into Christian Petzold’s works. Lovely playing, thanks for uploading.

@@clavichord,
yeah . honour be upon the name that deserves the honour .
honour to the family .
honour to the papa of the family .
honour to the composer .
honour to the tuning developer , friend of the papa's sons and pupils .
honour to the musicologist who found up the menuet's real composer .
& of course honour to the actual clavichord player - and tuner !
good luck .
@@keescanalfp5143 Now that's what I call giving lots of honour 😉
@@keescanalfp5143 Herr Bach told me to tell you that you forgot to give honour to God. Master Bach can be quite strict about that...
It's Petzold. 👍🏼

@@markhughes7927 Thank you!
Great video, but there's a lot of background hiss. I can hear it on your new videos as well, so I find it weird that nobody has pointed it out.
I also haven't noticed a considerable amount of audio hiss tbh, although it isn't professionally recorded. Could it be your audio settings? Thanks for your feedback
Very nice 🎶
Thank you
Love the sound. Very nicely recorded. Curious - how often do you need to tune it?
Thank you! Good question. Changes in humidity affect how often I need to tune this clavichord, temperature fluctuations as well, but not as much. Tuning sometimes needs to be done after just a week, other times after a month or more. It takes me about 30 to 40 minutes to tune all the strings. Hope this helps.
Super!!
Thank you! 👍
Great post. Bach's most famous Minuet that he didn't write! Allow me to suggest that a minuet is a dance. Some articulation, esp in the LH would help with this. Your rhythm is good!
Thanks for your suggestions!
Bravo! 👏🏻
Maravilhoso!!!
Muito obrigado!
Such an interesting fingering choice compared to the typical piano thumb tucking. I can see that it makes sense for an instrument with such a detached sound. What is the action like?
The action is considerably lighter than modern pianos. This makes baroque keyboard ornamentation easier. The key length is also considerably shorter, which affects fingering and hand positions, more or less automatically
Belíssimo...
very nice, thank you
Thank you for listening!
Excellent !
Glad you like it!
Thank you 🎶
Thanks for listening
Charming
Thank you so much!
Suara yang khas
It's interesting how everything is a cycle. "Ka is a wheel", as Roland always said. Back in Bach's time, this instrument would cost the GDP of a small village. Then in the mid 20th century, the electric piano based on the clavichord was invented as a low-cost mass-producible piano for students in post-war Europe. And now, once again, clavichord-like instruments are quite expensive, including or even especially the surviving Hohner Clavinets. I want the one with a whammy bar.
Printed music in Bach's time was also very expensive... certainly only the rich and well off could afford it, and those musicians who could not, copied the score by hand
That's a neat guitar.
Thanks for your comment. This instrument is called a clavichord
@@clavichord Thank you for performing with this authentic instrument. Very nice. Thank you for sharing.
Wasn’t this piece turned into a pop song back in the 1960s?
You are correct. It was "A lover's Concerto" by the Toys. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Lover%27s_Concerto
Hermoso
¡Gracias!
What instrument is this? It sounds so good
Thank you. It's called a clavichord
How much does an instrument like this cost? Where to look for one?
It depends on seller and condition. You could expect a price between approximately $1000 to $3000, second hand. These and other historical instruments, like harpsichords, are for sale on the internet. It is also possible to buy "build-your-own" kits, if you have the skills.
❤❤❤
That's a lot louder than any clavichord I know of!!!
In reality it is a soft sound, but I've put the microphone very near to the instrument
Interpretando a Bach Dios ❤

Is dat jouw hond?
What's the name of this instrument?
This instrument is called a clavichord
This is a clavecin?
It's a clavichord. The strings are hit on a clavichord, but they are plucked on a harpsichord

Very nice ❤
➿➰➿➰ Frivolite... ⚕️🦞
---
We can be sure that if Bach had known the modern piano, his works would be totally different. Therefore, any serious musician should NEVER perform Bach's work on a modern piano, because the harpsichord is a plucked string instrument, while the piano is a PERCUSTED string instrument.. It would be like performing John Dowland's lute works on an electric guitar.
Nice and twangy. 😂❤
Cheeky 🤪

Thanks!
