Ofc she doesnt understand anything and is not suited for it. She's an orphan and has been in the war since she was a little kid, how do you expect her to be emotionally adjusted? You need to give her time. Also, if people never got a chance to grow where would we be? If someone is not good at something, does that mean they should just be removed and not even allowed to get better at it?
The misunderstanding in this episode, owch. I don't blame you, though since this series will be hard to interpret if you don't approach it with prior experience or a very open mind. God, I love this series. And this soundtrack - this is my studying music, motivation music, breakdown music. The music in this show is beautiful.

@@FreshestAnime I interpret that Erica was too shy to say she would write the letter (and the others were out at the time, I think). It wasn't a planned thing, it just happened. (Iris wouldn't have let her to write it on her own)
@@FreshestAnime That's a fair concern to be honest, but if you look closely: 1. Erica (the girl in the glasses) hesitated to volunteer for the letter because of how the client she previously wrote a letter for reacted (the man who came in screaming). She knows Violet isn't good at writing letters at this moment, but as you saw in the episode, she doesn't have any faith in herself either. So she took the easier route of letting Violet do it. She's also timid by nature, so butting in and telling Violet to take a backseat wasn't for her. 2. Iris and Cattleya weren't around at the time, making Erica and Violet the only choices for the moment. 3. As for Claudia, he was asked by Gilbert to look after Violet. He knows that Violet never demands anything because of how repressed she is, so when she does raise a demand, and it's related to Gilbert on top of that he has a very hard time refusing her. Plus, he's a very kind person as you've already seen. He too believes that this will be good for Violet, to help her realize how many "burns" she has.

I think it was that wearing high heels was a masculine thing in Europe in the similar era irl, just like how they say pink was a masculine color back then, whats masculien and femine change in a century, in 2100 it could be that having long hair is a manly thing, who knows.
There's some subtle things in this anime that can be hard to understand/catch on a first watch, especially with some of the iffy spots for translations. Specifically the part where Erica says "I don't think so" If I remember right was after Cattleya says "We're all pretty new here", and that is more Erica saying "You're experienced/doing well enough" because Cattleya is the most popular doll in the office (and probably one of, if not the most popular one in general). I will say this episode is definitely the one that makes you feel the most "cringe", it's meant to show how bad Violet is at reading emotions at this point to further emphasize her growth later. You could say some other episodes are harder to watch, but for completely different reasons lol. Not sure how far you've gotten into the anime outside of what's uploaded to youtube at this point, but Violet is 14, and was involved in the war since she was 10, so that's why everyone is referring to her as a child. Evergarden is the owners of the house Gilbert was going to leave Violet with and his relatives, but his last name is Bougainvillea (A flower, this show has many characters named after flowers)
Amusingly, the literal translation of _je ne sais quoi_ is "I don't know what". So, "he has that _je ne sais quoi_ ", meaning elusive quality, really means "he has that certain something that I can't define." Some parody I watched said "He has that certain _je ne sais quoi,_ but I don't know what it is." (I think it may have been "Top Secret" but I'm not sure.)
11:20 Men wore high heels a lot in the 17th and 18th centuries but then that died out and became a women's fashion item. It this somewhat-parallel world it may have continued on as one of the differences (such as the Science Fiction-level technology to make full-arm prothesis that work even a fraction as well as Violet's).

I am not mad at Violet, I just don't get why other character would let her do actual letter with client. instead of practice letter between staff.

the only problem i have with this episode is that NOBODY PROOFREADS VIOLET'S WORK?!
