My friend you are about to embark on an amazing journey that is DGD. This band does have a complex history but right now I feel they’re at their prime. They’ve had 3 different vocalists and I recommend checking out each era. Some recommendations: Lemon Meringue Tie (1st vocalist), Uneasy Hearts Weigh The Most (2nd vocalist), and Man of The Year (current vocalist). So many good songs man excited to see your reactions!
All the mothership album is a piece of art and for me is the best album of dgd, also check some of the songs of tilian Pearson I personally like almost all the factory reset album, the las one. Hope to see reaction about does songs.
DGD is complex aha, there are 3 different lead singers that have changed over the course of albums, each with their own distinct sound and offerings to the albums. Honestly, I love all of it. Songs that I love include (I'll pick one or two from each album): And I Told Them I Invented Times New Roman, Uneasy Hearts Weight the Most, Carl Barker, Blue Dream, Thug City, Strawberry Swisher Pt.3, We Own the Night, Death of A Strawberry, Inspire the Liars, Betrayed by the Game, Care, Three Wishes. This should give you quite a varied look at what they have to offer. The video for Man of the Year from the Tree Sessions 2 is a great watch, something about it is magic.
This is actually the first music video to feature longtime touring guitarist Andrew Wells (the guitar player in the gas station setting), who has been a featured vocalist on two different DGD songs, one each on their past two albums, as he has very recently become an official member after 7 years touring with them. The current clean vocalist has been with them for around 9 or 10 years, with this single coming from their upcoming sixth album since he joined, and their tenth LP in total. The lead guitarist and the drummer are founders and have been on every release, while the screamer is also a founder but left immediately after recording their second album, rejoining for their fourth album and staying on since. The bassist toured for the third album as an official member, but left to make way for an original lineup reunion planned for the fourth album, before he came back when the current singer joined.
This is their third singer, and fourth key era, which goes in order as Jonny Craig, Kurt Travis, Jonny Craig, Tilian. Jonny has been in a couple of rock bands, but as far as I know just does twitch streams now and hasn't done much in music in the past couple of years, and Kurt Travis was in a band called a Lot Like Birds for two albums, before leaving. He is currently in Royal Coda, a supergroup within the DGD community, on which DGD lead guitarist Will Swan is also a member. And Tilian was the lead singer for Tides of Man for their first two albums before they went instrumental. Jon Mess (screamer) is in a different side project with Will Swan and DGD drummer Matt Mingus called Secret Band, which is all screams.
There's a video called "The Complicated History of Dance Gavin Dance" on the channel dave that breaks it down pretty well in a short decent amount of time!
@@davidpwolfe they've created a genre named after the lead guitarist Will Swan, they have their own festival called swanfest every year and a bunch of the swancore bands perform (eidola, sianvar, royal coda, hail the sun etc..)
DUDE!! You have so much amazing music to come! Strawberry Wake, Son of Robot, Evaporate some of my favorite songs that fit this style for sure. but all their music is amazing. The History on the band is HUGE and goes back all the way to 2005 with members like Jonny Craig and some major changes have happened over time.
There are some pretty lengthy videos on here that delve pretty deep into the bands history. Like "The Rise and Fall of Jonny Craig". I still feel like the first few albums were great, in many ways.. but Tilian joining was one of the best things to happen to them I feel like. I finally got to see them live back in september, best show of my life.
Mothership is my favorite album for their current vocalist. And probably my favorite they have ever made. Downtown battle mountain is my favorite album for the second vocalist. And their self titled album with the death star on it is my favorite for the first vocalist. The screamer has been the same guy since the beginning and you can really tell how much he has improved and continues to do so with this new song here.
Downtown battle mountain 1 and 2 are with their first singer Jonny Craig. Death Star and Happiness are their 2nd vocalist Kurt Travis. Also, their screamer left for the Happiness album
Blue dream, lemon meringue tie, spooks, hair song, young robot, son of robot, death of robot, betrayed by the game, say hi, parody catharsis. I could name off good songs forever! I'm so excited to watch you get into dgd, they are an AMAZING band.
I feel like if I can’t add anything that hasn’t been said already. But my favorite thing in the world is seeing someone love my favorite band and willing to check out more of their work. It’s a hell of a ride.
This autoplayed after I got done watching the video. DGD is a really solid band, they have a pretty diverse history of clean vocalists that each have their own merits. They've been consistently great over the years (in my opinion) and are fully worth adding into any playlists you dive into. Also suggest checking out Secret Band, or any of Tilian's solo stuff. Eidola is a nice similar style band as well.
It crazy watching this band go from a small local band having a whole genre named after their lead guitarist, insane. I loved DGD been going to their shows since 2007
Inspire the liars and we own the night are the first two songs that caught my attention. Went from a blip on my radar to literally one of my fav bands w in about a month of listening to their other material. The vocalists perfectly compliment each other and Will Swan has this funk/soul element to his playing that just grooves.
Honestly all of the "Swancore" Genre bands born from the influence are incredible! Other bands to check out similar to them: Hail the Sun Wolf and Bear A Lot Like Birds Lower Definition Sianvar Dwellings There's so much music to be heard man, have fun on the sonic journey!
There have been 3 lead singers, all with drastically different styles. You can listen to any of the 3 and get a completely different feeling but they're all amazing. They started with Jonny Craig and they had a very soulful and jazzy vibe at the time. And I Told Them I Invented Times New Roman, Lemon Meringue Tie, and Blue Dream are a few amazing songs. They had Kurt Travis for a couple albums. Me And Zoloft Get Along Just Fine, Uneasy Hearts Weigh The Most, and Strawberry Swisher, Pt. 1 and Pt. 2. He probably had the most traditional voice out of the 3, but just because the other 2 are so unique. Right now Tilian is their lead singer. A lot of the music they make with Tilian is funky and poppy but it goes great with the screams from Jon Mess. Just a few of my favorites are Inspire The Liars, Betrayed By The Game, Stroke God, Millionaire, and Jesus H. Macy. There's a ton of others from every singer so just keep listening!
That note at 3:27 after tillian extends that vocal line "deeeaaadddddd" gave me immediate chills with that and everything else behind it. Oof He even mentioned he loved that lead tone
Will follow for a long time if you dive deep into dgd, loved them since WISIRO came out and love seeing new people peel back all their layers and long history. Let me know!
Please do more of them! This is a good indicator of their style but they have some that are incredible! Inspire the Liars, Man of the year (live), One in a Million, and both Young robot and Son of Robot are all great!
You will find yourself in an amazing rabbit hole including Eidola, Hail the Sun, Sianvar, Royal Coda, and many more "swancore" bands that are fantastic.
My guy... wanting to know about the history of the band??? More than anyone can type in a comment that's for sure. A lot to unpack, and ALL worth it! As far as next suggestions for a new listener, I would say "Headhunter" for your next review. It was the first single released before the LAST album, and unfortunately didn't make it onto that album, but still is one of my favorites from them. Glad you found these guys man
They have different session guitarists who come in and help write/play some of their songs. The session guitarist who wrote Synergy (who I can’t remember his name at the moment) also wrote the song Suspended in This Disaster off of Dance Gavin Dance’s album Artificial Selection, which is probably my favorite song from them. If you loved Synergy, you will love Suspended in This Disaster as well
Lol it's crazy right? I kinda stopped listening to this sort of music back in like 2010 or so, and I'm just now getting back into the scene. So I've got a LOT of catching up to do!
Despite this band being halfway flushed down the toilet right now... I enjoy you remarking on Jon Mess's harsh vocals. They're so good in these last two singles even compared to all his previous stuff. He really stepped up his game for this album, which makes it even more unfortunate how their chronic problematic behavior and touring-lifestyle has come to light recently.
All the stuff going on with Tillian is terrible. My heart goes out to all the victims, and I hope he gets the help he needs to change for the better. Who knows what the band looks like going forward, but it's certainly not their first rodeo with frontman problems. I've got a video coming out on Friday that goes a bit more into my thoughts.
Oh you're interested in the history of the band? Get ready for a bumpy ride haha this is their third unclean vocalist since they started in 2006. They originally started with Jonny Craig, then Kurt Travis, and now for 5 consecutive albums they've had Tilian Pearson. Their history is a rabbit hole
You have to check out We Own The Night (which has their current clean vocalist tilian), Blue Dream (which had their first vocalist Johnny Craig) and Happiness (which has my favorite vocalist DGD has had, Kurt Travis)
A band that hasn't featured on your channel before, Conquer Divide with their new song "Atonement" this band features five talented womens from the United States, Canada and United Kingdom
“I’d like to know more about their history” Theres a lot to get into 😂 As for songs I always think Inspire The Liars is a great song for those new to the band
Your going to enjoy the rest. Also check out some the collaborations these guys have been on. Jon Mess has done a song with Bilmuri. Tilian has his own solo stuff and has appeared on songs with Johnny Craig, I The Mighty, and Foxera.
I highly suggest going back and going through all the Eras of this band. There is not an album that disappoints and don't be suprised if you find yourself becoming obsessed like many of us are lol
I think a good way to start might be listening to the two Tree City Sessions albums, as they're live versions of various songs from each of their LPs. It should be a nice way to acquaint yourself with some of their most popular songs, hear their evolution over the years, and hear how they sound live, all in one! The only downside is your first time with their older songs would be the new version with the current clean vocalist as opposed to the original ones (Johnny Craig on DBM 1&2, and Kurt Travis on the self-titled and Happiness).
This band has had 3 front men. Literally check out all the albums. All of their albums are bulletproof in my opinion. Just pick two songs per album to get the gist of each frontmans involvement!
Rock Solid is an older song with one of the older vocalists, Kurt Travis. It has a nice vibe to it and it's a fun funny song. Also Hair Song is one of my favorites. And Shark Dad is definitely good. Also many recommend Man of the Year and it's definitely very good. I could also recommend Something New.
Stroke God Millionaire, Awkward, Betrayed by the game. All of their songs are good man, I'm jealous you get to discover all of them for the first time!
I gotten so much out of this band, it takes time but I would really recommend you check their older albums and I have a feeling they be more up your alley since they are less "pop" like (I love all their work regardless even tho I miss the more heavy stuff). I've been listening to them non stop almost daily since 2019 alternating between albums. I would love to see you react to On the Run, they have a video with really nice visuals and you will get to know how bizarre the unclean vocal lyrics are lol
yes that is their best song…..they are not a particular heavy band but if u want to check out their heaviest song…its between Say Hi and Shark Dad, give it a listen
If you're brand new to the band, I highly recommend the single We Own The Night, as well as that entire album in general, Instant Gratification. After that, go with Mothership, which is unanimously their most top tier album with their vocalist Tilian. Artificial Selection and Afterburner are the most recent and continue the same style of music, but are a bit less serious and just fun. After that, then dive into the older singer's album era's to hear the difference in their sound over the years!
pls listen to their old stuff, happiness and dbm1 are such special passionate albums. you'd really like it, i think. also love the underoath in the intro
BRO PLEASE do more dgd! Theyre the best fucking band to ever exist. Listen to "We Own The Night" "Inspire The Liars" and "Man of the Year" those song feature the current lead vocalist Tilian. You can visit past albums with their respective Lead Vocalist afterward! YOURE IN FOR A WILD RIDE :D
Jonny craig split off , kurt days left us with bangers that did better in sessions, and tilian is killin it. For how much you liked them, gotta say they fucking kill it live and consistently!! There have been 3 lead singers and man they all made lovely sounds. They are all awesome performing individually as well as a group. Songs to check man of the year , spooks , times new roman, chucky v the giant tortoise , all of afterburner ... I could keep going
If you liked this, then you better check out their Mothership album. I honestly feel like you should do more DGD music video reactions… just check it all out.. read everyone comments here. You’re gonna get some great recommendations. If you do more DGD reactions, I’ll sure as hell be back to watch!
I enjoy the song for what it is and will purchase and listen to their next album on repeat for a period of time, but I'm waiting for DGD to do something different. Although I'm sure things were stressful in their earlier days, given the revolving door of vocalists, I feel the unplanned changeup in vocalists resulted in more charismatic albums. I enjoy Tilian as a vocalist, but everything from the release of Mothership forward sounds the same. This might be an unpopular opinion, but sadly, it's true.
@@davidpwolfe I enjoyed your review. DGD have a fairly expansive discography. I am hoping that Andrew Wells (new DGD guitarist / current Eidola vocalist) plays a much larger role on their next album and has an opportunity to sing. Andrew's vocals are more soulful, while Tilian's vocals are often perceived as being more sterile. I'm also hoping that since Andrew joined the band as a fulltime member, he brings a few different ideas with him. DGD have collectively been running on autopilot for quite some time and I feel that their best work has often resulted from a lineup change.
Lol yeah, I kind of stopped listening to scene music around 2010 or so, and I'm just now getting back into it since 2020. So I've got a lot of catching up to do!
I got into alt/scene music back in like 2007, and stopped in 2010. So for the past 10 years or so I've been out of the loop. There are so many HUGE bands that I've just completely missed.
@@davidpwolfe dude, you don't have to justify yourself to me. Im just some rando on the internet. But, speaking for myself, I dont think I believe you. Edit: and I'm only speaking to a likelihood. Your intro includes a song from Lost in the Sound of Separation which was released in 2008. Dance Gavin Dance's self titled was released in 2008. And considering how present they were in the scene since that album paints a lot of doubt over the "never heard them before". Despite your departure from the scene.
The Cornerstone tracks are ... 'And I told them I invented times new Roman ' , 'Uneasy hearts weigh the most' , ' Carl Barker' , 'Inspire the liars' , 'We own the night' , 'Prisoner' , 'Nothing shameful' ... My man you have a lot of catching upto do before this new album releases , good luck and have a blast!

I recomend Inspire the Liers probably their most popular song
great reaction btw ^-^
alright cool!
Thanks!
yes that is their best song…..they are not a particular heavy band but if u want to check out their heaviest song…its between Say Hi and Shark Dad, give it a listen
Call the number! It takes you to the Rat King!
That's cool!
I also wanna mention this video from 'dave' that goes through the history of the band in further detail: ruclips.net/video/hY0H8qeKVXw/видео.html
I've definitely got a lot of catching up to do! Thanks for all the recs!
@@davidpwolfe I got into the band early 2020; it’s daunting at first, but OH SO WORTH IT!!!
Man of the Year. Tree city sessions 2 version.
Shameful is very cool too
pls listen to their old stuff, happiness and dbm1 are such special passionate albums. you'd really like it, i think. also love the underoath in the intro
Kurt Travis is the GOAT
Thanks man! Love to bump into another Underoath fan!
Oh we're definitely gonna do some more DGD soon! I think I'm going to record one for Inspire the Liars tonight
@@davidpwolfe Yes!!
is Man of The Year next? Definitely react to that one.
Please do prisoner by them.
If you liked this, then you better check out their Mothership album. I honestly feel like you should do more DGD music video reactions… just check it all out.. read everyone comments here. You’re gonna get some great recommendations. If you do more DGD reactions, I’ll sure as hell be back to watch!
I definitely think we'll be seeing more DGD on the channel soon!
I'd be so sad if I heard this as my first DGD song and had the potential to think Jon was the feature. That would be a heartbreaking possibility.
Bro, check out the albums Instant Gratification and Mothership.
You will be blown away.
I need to!
Too many great songs to check out, but I highly suggest man of the year tree city sessions 2. It is a live masterpiece.
If you stick to the DGD journey then......my friend, it will be a long enjoyable ride
That's a fair criticism. Hopefully we'll get some new variety on the album!
"Nice guitars." DGD would like to show you something...
Go back and check out their old stuff. Kurt Travis' era was best IMO.
Please review emarosa
Jonny emarosa
"I'd live to know more of the history of this band" Brother, thats a deep dive and a lot of crack pot theory. But if you make the plunge, welcome :)
P.S. There are a lot of references to a music video called "Head Hunter." Absolute banger of a song.
uncleans r jon mess he is the dirty vocalist all the way thru their discography except for their album happiness
Really enjoying his voice!
You like Heavy music and you’ve never heard Dance Gavin Dance how?
Lol yeah, I kind of stopped listening to scene music around 2010 or so, and I'm just now getting back into it since 2020. So I've got a lot of catching up to do!
Inspire the liars next time!
𝖕𝖗𝖔𝖒𝖔𝖘𝖒
They're good but this song is nothing special IMO.
F
I dont think I believe you
I got into alt/scene music back in like 2007, and stopped in 2010.
