Let's face it JP, you should have walked Monty first, then shopped and it would have been fine. BTW some UK carparks in high use areas use the same system.

You have to be on GO or IOG to get the discount (5% for GO and 8% for IOG). If you're just an Octopus customer then it gets added to your fuel bill. If you're not a customer, then you need a credit/debit card registered with them. As you say, very easy especially with Ionity and their shared contactless terminal.

Ha! That's just the sort of thing that happens to me, JP! An innate talent for causing chaos wherever we go. I call it testing systems to distruction, therefore a public service, what a palaver at that first supermarket.
Already got the Octopus Electroverse card, fortunately we never go anywhere because my wife would be "somewhat" reluctant to have anything to do with Tesla, and that was before the boss revealed himself to be a Nazi!
Monty is absolutely adorable, he looks like such a good natured, happy little soul.🤗🐶
Edit: ooh, forgot to say, I had to miss my choral practice last week because the only parking left close enough was in the car park which I'm too afraid to park in on my own. Last two times we've used it, together we've got in ok, it's recognised the car and my blue badge but it wouldn't let us out again! My wife got out in the rain did some dib dab dobbing on the screen and we finally got it to raise the barrier, no way I could do that after two hours singing late at night so after going around town four times I came home! Technology eh?!

My wife has never been a fan but I was fairly neutral about him too and I totally agree that Tesla is much more than Musk but it's helping line his pockets ultimately, which is alarming given what he's up to over there now.
However I've also seen the film of those salutes and short of him proclaiming himself or Trump a Roman emperor I don't know what other salute he meant it to be!
Honestly I think if Tesla don't get rid of him soon it'll be a shame.
We finally have a bit of sunshine this morning and my lurcher is enjoying himself laying the law down to the dogs walking on the rec beyond our back garden. Better get him in before he causes complete chaos out there!
Bet you're nice and warm over there now, cheers JP, see you next time. 👍

You can play the system a bit and run some errands nearby while your car is charging but you don't really want to park in a supermarket car park for more than a couple of hours, they're not meant for that..
Those Iberdrola chargers probably make more sense for Mercadona employees. They would ideally have 50-100kw rapid chargers for customers to get a decent charge in 20-30 mins.

I've lived in Southern Spain for 10.years now Jonathan and I think you were being harsh on Mercadona. They are a great supermarket and we use them all the time for our daily and weekly shop. Unlike most competitors, they do usually provide car parking and until recently it was free but people (many were Brits but mainly Spanish) took liberties by parking all day for free and not using the store. So Mercadona fought back and imposed parking fees. You planned your trip badly and should have parked and done the shopping last! Had you gone to a "CC" (commercial centre) or shopping mall you would likely have got free parking snd they have charging points in those. I'm not having a go at you. I love your channel, and I'm thinking of buying an EV. Cars are VERY expensive in Spain and badly treated so I would go for a lower value care like Dacia Spring because cars always get bumped here and no one ever owns up, so minor repairs are left "undone". Annoyingly in my urbanisation my parking is underground so I'm not allowed to have a charging point gor fear of fire. Spain has its faults but please note that it is a different culture and please don't blame Mercadona for expensive parking. Residents spend more time shopping than tourists, and hardly ever have to pay. Keep up the good work

Fuel cells catalysts and membranes , there anode and cathodes are becoming small, very cost effective very efficient the new fuel cells SOFC Solide oxide have no need for expensive metals and the newer maganese oxide catalysts, super clean and very high efficiency, coming soon the day where a tank canister the size of a large coke bottle full of cheap green hydrogen will take your fuel cell car 500 miles, hydrogen refillable tank canisters sold at convience store stands, this will be the infrastructure, no need for those ugly EV charging stations all around cities ect, hydrogen fuel cell top ups just like phones or like connecting ones BBQ propane grill except it will be with hydrogen with no toxins, very simple super safe, they already exist, they already make 5 types of hydrogen canister types, lite carbon fiber tanks 5 times stronger than steel, hydrogen car tanks canisters made for high car impact, this is coming, the new perovskite solar cells have become much more cost efficient by 30% in making green hydrogen and better storage than solar cells to battery storage or just plan electricity, this is a game changer in the solar cell green hydrogen revolution, hydrogen is realy safe in comparison to gazoline, gazoline needs 1% to 3% oxygen concentrations to explode, hydrogen needs 18% to 59% making it safer! hydrogen dispersis fast onto air, it`s a very lite element, making it safe! around the world many gazoline cars explode in car accidents, lithium battery explosion fires, many remember the hydrogen Hindenburg Zepplin explosion, however the material coating it was made of was the reason for the horrible fire and not the hydrogen fuel, there has not been a hydrogen fire or explosion connection since then, i would say hydrogen is the safest of fuels!

Unbeknownst to me, got passed some fake money in Garrucha many years ago, went to spend it at a family run supermarket in Mojacar lady at the till said ‘no’ loudly and called the owner. He then got his son to explain it was fake. Found out after that they should have called the police, at the time there were holiday makers languishing in Spanish jails for weeks while they investigated the fake money. That would have made for a fun honeymoon! Still have that fake note somewhere.

  • @niccox1738

I had no problems using Iberdrola chargers with Electroverse last year, so not sure if this was something specific to the supermarket?
Btw I’ve always quite liked Mercadona as a supermarket and their product range - we charged there last year, it was free, but was limited to 3.3kw and only for 30 mins so wasn’t really worth it from a purely charging point of view
There did seem to be more Repsol chargers than other brands but none seemed to work with either Electroverse or Chargemaps and didn’t seem to allow direct credit card payment

  • @BrotherGiles
    @BrotherGiles 18 минут назад

One of the biggest misconceptions about electric vehicles (EVs) is their advertised range. Like many products, manufacturers provide figures based on ideal conditions, which often do not reflect real-world driving. In practical use, an EV typically achieves around 80% of its stated range when fully discharged from 100% to 0%.
Furthermore, to optimize battery longevity and charging efficiency, it is recommended to operate the battery between 80% and 20% capacity. This reduces the usable range by an additional 40%, resulting in an overall range reduction of approximately 60% from the advertised figure. As a result, a vehicle initially rated for 200 miles may realistically require a charge stop every 80 miles-significantly impacting convenience and long-distance usability.

You'd be really lucky to find charging anywhere at either 0.21p or 0.44p. It's 21p or £0.21. Likewise 44p or £0.44. If it were 0.21 p/kWh then you'd get more than 4 kW for 1p.

I like your channel because although you are pro EV, you're not an evangelist and are prepared to tell the shortfalls of EV ownership. Being an ex owner of two EVs, one being the Nero, I've settled on a Citroën C5 Aircross PHEV Hybrid, which i love. I was fed up with pre payments, then the charger not working to wait weeks to get a refund. You've summed it up. It's a FAFF. My opinion is that EVs for private owners are for retired well off people with lots of patience. You imagine this type of faff when rushing to an appointment or meeting. This is precisely why I don't think BEVs will ever get more than 6-8% of all cars on UK roads.

you simply have to adjust to the culture where you are.
We have simply similiar charging solutions but you need to do a proper research wherever you drive if you want to charge for cheap.
Aldi SÜD has cheap cargers for 38 Cent and some more, other city offer free parking while charging too and at a similiar price.
It always depends cause sometime you pay higher parking fees but get free charging or vice versa.
And of cause we also get this direct payment cause otherwise you would pay 66 or 70 cent for charging - and direct payment would be 44 cent along the highway aka Autobahn, which means you take the exit and then it is 500 m or so.
I would ask the locals at an ev charger where and how to charge. the bigger the car the higher the likelihood you find someone well informed and speaking english - or the opposite which means a small sized car like e-Up . people who are on budget.
We also have lidl chargers and all the homedepot style shops have such fast chargers , I mean 50 kWh DC for the small grovery shoppings and up to 350 kW for the homedepot where a lot of small business owners come along and also EV vans with their workers which also need to charge while shopping.

Most supermarkets in Europe have a two tier (financial charge) system, cost to physically charge and one for the amount of energy. It also shows how backwards the EV charging systems are everywhere, I have owned a Kia Nero 4 and 4+ EV, whilst excellent vehicles I sold up due the lack of public charging infrastructure and frustrating services, I want to pay a reasonable price for a simply solution. It’s pathetic that we need to carry extra cards, use rubbish app, most people have Apple Pay or contactless cards.

Not a faff Jonathan, like everything else in Spain...its about knowing the system!
All the paid supermarket car parks that I have usef utilise this system for payment, which when you consider it, is far better than faffing with a seperate machine to pay..... look upon it as a learning challenge not an inconvenience!😂
IBERDROLA....Its pronounced "eee berrr dro ler" ( an "i " is prounanced "eee" in spanish.
    The vowel sounds are...
Ahh (not Ayy) eh (not e) eee (not aye) oh (no owe) oooow (not ewe).
Every day is a school day!
Monty is considerably more chilled than my cocker, who is bonkers! 😁
Do you have an NIF or NIE Jonathan, as I'm trying to register with the Iberdrola app, it wont allow me to sign-up without one🤔
