"Offering this as a pathetic means to say, I only know how to exist when I am wanted"
"Your sexiness is defined by concentric circles within your wood; it's wisdom"
This song is a masterpiece. There's so much emotion in her voice. But I like this version much much better than the other one.

I'm sure I don't have the same experience listening to this song, but as I guy I've had body image issues myself. I've lost weight too quickly, cringed at certain features, and over time learned to treat myself with more gentleness and kindness. The ideas of self love and body love are relevant to everyone. Look at these comments. 30% are men!

    • @victoriawilson2110
      @victoriawilson2110 10 лет назад +18

Ryan Heemann I don't think people realize that boys deal with these issues too, and they do d it hard when they do meet someone who has gone through similar things, but here is what I want to say to you
Whether you weigh 100 lbs 200 lbs or whatever you are still perfect in everyway possible and no one should ever tell you otherwise, okay you were born the way you are, you were born as an original, don't try to be someone you're not

I'm not a woman - but this does speak to me.
Most of it is targeted at women, which is understandable because society puts more pressure on females to look a certain way, but certain things jump out at me.
"it's never easy to accept that our bodies are fallible and flawed"
"... I only know how to exist when I am wanted"
      And the charred tree metaphor.
Men/boys do have body image issues.

Theres something about the way that i know that she has performed this a hundred times but she is still giving an honest performance. The way she begins to rush at the end, the way the power in the keys increases. The way at the end her hands linger on the keys almost as if she is exhausted from the outpowering of emotion. I wish there was more of her spoken word available because holy fuck i get so many chill every time i see her perform this.

That's a spoken word poetry with background music, in case someone's wondering. I love Mary Lambert and her lyrics and I love spoken word poetry and this topic, it's almost unbearable. I am very skinny, not because I chose to be skinny and I still, after years of hating the image of my body in the mirror and learning to accept all the visible bones, feel insecure about my physical appearance, so this piece means the world to me

I have goosebumps and tears in my eyes... Every girl on the planet needs to hear this song and listen to it everyday, so that they can actually believe in their hearts, always, that they are beautiful exactly how they are; that they needn't change one bit; that they should never feel that they have to hurt their perfect selves to be something a magazine wants them to be. Let this be the personal anthem for all women and girls - this could heal our broken self-esteem.
Mary Lambert, if you ever see this comment, I thank you with all of my heart for this empowering song. You are a strong and beautiful woman in every way, and an inspiration to me. People like you give me hope that we could turn our sick society that has the goal of shattering the self-esteem of females just to turn a profit, into a beautiful world where women and girls feel beautiful everyday, no matter what they're wearing, who they're with, what they're doing, or what they look like. Thank you, thank you, a million times thank you.

I vowed to myself a few months back to accept my body and after everything it's become the most easiest thing ever. Yes I still have things I don't like about it but I never say I hate it now. I hate the word hate and don't use it in anything. I couldn't care less what people think about me because they have nothing to do with my life so it's easy now to not try so hard to be accepted because I just don't care. It's not everything. The older you get the more you realize looks just don't mean a thing, trying to be accepted doesn't mean a think and the kinder you get the more you accept everyone in all there shapes and sizes. The happier you become when you think of your body as a warm home rather than something to like at.

I might not be what this song is talking about, but I am insecure about myself and this has helped me feel better about what I look like. I might not be looking vulnerable on the outside, but when someone says something about my body (joking or not), it HURTS! Just because I put on a poker face and laugh it off doesn't mean that I agree, or that it's okay to say what you want about my body. Anyone can put on a smile and act like their okay, but just because my lips twitch up and my eyes glisten and I make a laughing noise in my throat, doesn't mean that I'm happy. So why do people think that it's okay to talk about each others body's? Especially to their face?

No words can explain how amazing and real is this...
Today everything what we want to achieve is look good, be accepted, be perfect. But we will never be perfect. Nobody is perfect. And this is okay, this make us another and incredible.
We all are beautiful, sexy, amazing and we all gonna be loved. But first we have to be loved by ourselves.
I was so long in depression bc of my look, bc of my ugliness, bc of my body, bc of my unperfection.
But right now I know what is important. Important is to be who you are and love who you are. Never try to change yourself. You're amazing. Just the way you're.

It's an awesome and powerful song. Mary Lambert is living this performence and she really wants to gives us a message. I personally think that not only girls should be adressed by this. Every human beeing should have the opportunity to love them and their body. Because in fact everybody is beautiful. Try not to see the social norms. Try to see what's really important. The fact that you are alive. The fact that your body is your home. You should treat it like one.

Sitting here crying..... sitting here crying because I am scared of how much I relate to this..... being in the hospital because of my 'battlefields' is something that hurts, hurts because you have the time to think... think of all the battles you've been through and did the wrongs things at the worst times.... crazy how relatable this is..... hope you have a good rest of your day who ever reads this

You know, sometimes weight is an issue for people not just caused by eating too much or not working out. Some people are just big because they are big. And she's telling these people that they are BEAUTIFUL regardless of these things. You shouldn't be defined my your body. But by what's inside. And that someone will love you regardless of what you look like. But you don't have to be loved to love yourself. Love yourself because you are you.
