Wow! I'm going to be honest, I just recently got into mechanical keyboards and custom setups (as I have just purchased a new Macbook Pro), and to be honest, I think I have watched at least 10 of your videos now and read various posts. I also read several of Jake's blog posts, and after vetting all the information, I am really impressed. This is exactly the content I was looking for in terms of simple but thorough explanations and research, and after going through several online guides, subreddit channels, and RUclips videos, you both have the best content by far. I look forward to entering the "keeb" world, and I will be counting on you all to help me along my journey! Side note: I am stuck between getting the Keychron K6 hotswap and the Keychron K8 hotswap. Both seem great, and I can't decide whether I need the top function bar. I am thinking of adding Cherry MX Speed Silver switches or Gateron Yellow switches and getting HyperX Pudding Key Caps for the board. As well, I saw on the blog that you all recommend the HyperX keyboard and the Drop/AltCtrl, and I just want to know... is the price worth it for the Drop/AltCtrl? Thanks again!
I’d get the K8 bc the HyperX pudding is full size keycaps. Won’t work with all the keys on K6. Also with K8 being TKL, it will have great compatibility with most keycaps
Interesting! The disassembly processes difficulty is one of the key features that interest me when I buy a new keyboard, sadly however most videos on mechanical keyboards don't feature that detail. Thanks for the interesting content, keep going!
I replaced the keycaps with Drop Skylight, the switches with lubed Durock linears, and replaced the stabilizers. Now I think I'm ok with it. If you type with your wrists floating, the height doesn't seem like a big deal but I guess that's just preference. The K8 is pretty good for the price and being easy to mod makes it a great gateway for newbies.
As someone just getting into this stuff this was extremely helpful. Thank you so much for the thorough and honest review. The chill presentation was also super appreciated.
Push stem lube method + brush! Glad you've tried it. It's basically a fast result for lubing without having to get some kind of aerosol spray. I used Krytox 204g0 on my Gateron red and browns which is a lot harder to apply. But it's equally as effective without having to over-saturate the switches.
FYI, you can also use a small syringe to lube stabs. The main goal is to fill up the spacing between the metal wire and stab's stem. Also, you might not want to lube clickies. Lube thickness can affects the movement of click jacket. As for box switches with click bar, it has a self cleaning mechanism that will fling lube around inside.
@@SwitchandClickOfficial That's awesome, keep on experimenting! I have been experimenting with modding OEM board like from corsair. Put on new switches, lubing stab and sound deadening it with foam. To me, the whole point of mechanical keyboard community is modding and tinkering with things.
I was looking into this and almost pulled the trigger... thanks S&C for this honest review! The bluetooth gaming performance was definitely buzz-kill but good feature to have otherwise! Now to check out other TKL in this price range...
Thanks for the update and honest opinions. I never typed on clicky blues before with the click jacket, so curious how they compare to for example Kailh Box Whites with clickbar. And I do love me some clickies with click bars! Guess I'll find out soon enough when I get the keyboard. They will probably be switched to some other Kailh Box clickies soon after.
I had blue switches before, tried for one week and went ahead for brown replacement after. Whatever it was, don't lube the switches, it can break the pcb inside if those lube material was leaking.
My GMMK TLK still going great, but I don't have a Keychron to compare. I did do a foam mod on the GMMK that greatly reduced any ping, and clipped the stabs. I imagine they're both very close.
@@chrissjafiroeddin2851 do you know what thickness foam you used? I have a GMMK TKL on the way and I am not sure what thickness foam will fit under the PCB.

I just got the K8 Hot Swappable with red switches. Super excited since I've been using a WASD keeb with ISO layout and Cherry MX Brown switches and I got tired of it lol.
how is it going? for me, red switches seem too smooth to press - i can't recognize when i do press a key. With browns it seems easier. How about you with that and k8?
Hey, saw both of your videos about this keyboard the other day and can't remember if you answered the question I have, so i'll just leave it here and if you can answer i'd appreciate a lot. Is the pcb mount compatible with both 3 and 5 pin switches?? the description on kickstarter said it was but just wanted to make sure since you have on in hand. Thanks!

Thanks!
Did you experience any rings on this? I've learned that some people have experienced some rings (not very apparent though) on their K2 before. I just thought K8 might still have that issue.
@@SwitchandClickOfficial Cool! I guess I don't have to worry about it then. Thanks! I'm also happy to share that I already backed K8 last Saturday. I picked the hot swappable RGB plastic. I'm contemplating if I'm gonna drop the RGB and just stick to white backlight since I'm mostly gonna be using PBT keycaps.
I don't know if you will see this since this isn4 months old, but would you recommend the hotswap version for a beginner in mechanical keyboards. Not sure which switch I really like so would prefer a hot swap board. Thx a lot really live your channel. 😊
Yes, absolutely. Make sure you pick up a wrist rest of some sort since it's too high for most people
@@SwitchandClickOfficial thank you so much for replying ❤ I ordered not an hour ago the GMMK ice white with a set of gateron red's to swap with the browns it comes with. I was too concerned about the height of the K8, but I love the keychron aesthetic. I have a feeling I will end up with more than one mech!
So should I get the ck530 or keychron
I love it but do you think it might feel comfortable for a person with a medium hand with that thickness, does changing some low profile keycaps can fix it, as i don't want to use a wrist rest.
I prefer the look without the aluminum bezels. But I'm not sure if the keyboard will flex without the aluminum bezels. What do you suggest?
@@SwitchandClickOfficial true that 😂
do you know if the pcb supports screw in stabs?
I'm thinking on changing my hyperx alloy fps for this one, but I can't find if I can order it with an ISO latin-american keyboard layout or if there is a place where I can order translucent key caps
there's tonnes of compatible keycaps with mx-style stems. you'll be spoiled for choice.
@@SwitchandClickOfficial got confirmation from keychron and they just have us layout ☹️ I think I'll need to keep looking for my perfect keyboard
Are you able to swap the switches to the Kailh Box Jade and how tall is this to the K4?
Switch and Click Thanks for being super responsive! Love your videos
What specifically did you not like about the pudding keycaps cause I was planning on getting those as well since I couldn't find a keycap set that I really liked
@@SwitchandClickOfficial alright thanks, also I'm planning on getting nk creams after a year or two after buying the k8 is there any modding I should know of to help acoustics and reducing the ping
@@SwitchandClickOfficial is there going to be a difference between that and neoprene since many people have used that as an alternative
You covered a lot of ground here but why no comment on how it makes your arms pale and hairy?
where do you buy those carbon keycaps ?
does the plastic case also have the raised edges? or is that just on the aluminum version? also was there any noticeable ping or ringing from the keyboard?
@@SwitchandClickOfficial awesome thanks! always look forward to watching your videos, keep up the awesome content!
Hi, i'm between the RGB one or Pure White, i think it looks great in white but having the RGB is a good option too. Do you think the White in RGB looks bad? or the RGB white is real white (Not like Blue- ish) or dimmed? Thank you!
Are you able to charge it while using it? Wondering this since I play competetive.
Im really considering this keyboard but the floating keycaps are a bit of an off-putting factor. Are they only perciebable near the tkl area? or also throughout the main body?
Okay near arrow keys
Thanks for this.
My pleasure!
Just saw that they have a version 2 for K2 with 5.1 bluetooth and new incline but no hot swap. Would you prefer the k8 over the k2 version 2? thinking about getting the k8, but the wait is pretty long for pre order, and might just get the k2v2
Switch and Click I agree. The compactness of the k2 is starting to appeal to me though. Where do you get your key caps for the k2?
Where do you get custom keycaps for these?
Would a tkl keycap set from wasdkeyboards fit on this keyboard?
@@SwitchandClickOfficial thank you!
idk if you're still responding to comments, but is this hot swappable? there's one i found on amazon that's affordable and i'd like to swap out the switches without having to solder.
There are hot-swap options and non-hotswap options
@@SwitchandClickOfficial thank you!
how do you screenshot on this keyboard?
nice video! is it possible to change the spring without desoldering in this keyboard ?
