Before buying a Razer mobile, remember the Razer Phone 2 literally never got an update to Android 10, despite being released at roughly the same time. Never got it. Because Razer doesn't commit to updating their products.
I initially tested my nreal air AR glasses with the Razer Edge at a local verizon and was disappointed to see the black bars. Your tutorial on how to fix this just may cause me to go buy a Razer Edge now. Having an actively cooled, high performance android device that has desktop mode that now properly displays on my nreal air and nexdock 360 AND TV at 4K resolution is amazing!

The old Huawei models like the Mate 20 Pro also benefit from the secondscreen app and still has enough power to make a great gaming device and media centre.

It's a 300 dollar mini tablet that comes with a 100 dollar detachable controller, and it has an awesome amoled display! Too many gamers are expecting it to be like a 1000 dollar smartphone! 🤦♂️

I just wanna say that the Secondscreen app works well the Displaylink usb adapter. The only problem remaining for me is the display over notch option not yet available on my Daijisho frontend.

Its my favorite handheld next to my steam deck and switch. Was gonna get an aya neo air plus but for its asking price, i much rather save up and wait for the rog ally.
This was an enjoyable video. I'd went from being really enthusiastic about the Edge when it first launched, to deciding to wait for a bit to see if the prices drop, to forgetting it existed. So, thanks for reminding me to check it out again. I actually quite like the form factor and the fact it's Android . I couldn't care less if it never gets an OS update. I kinda wish the Verizon version had shipped with the ability to natively make phone calls and texts instead of being a data-only device. It costs roughly $200 less than the RedMagic 8 Pro, has a great controller bundled, also has a fan, is from a name brand, and has the ability to work on Verizon 5G (the RM8 is LTE only on Verizon) so if it could've placed phone calls and texts it would've been an amazing alternative to the RM8, as well as normal midranger-type devices. An opportunity missed, in my opinion.

It's so crazy they keep slacking when their ecosystem has it all but even allows Apple to beat them into implementing important QoL features? It's like they're trying hard to fail SMH.

The intention is to make a portable console, but not as simple as a gaming smartphone, for example the RoG Phone and the Nubia Red Magic which have a desktop mode by default.
Which rogphone are you talking of? ROG3 had dual display and working desktop mode because of the twinview dock accessory but post it, rogphones are real buggy on this part. Have seen on rog5 and 6. Its escarbareted due to some vestigial twinview modules still running in background even though 5 or 6 has no twinview dock. The single usb-c displayport(left port) does not handle controls properly so I end up having to utilise both usb-c ports for it, one to pass display as hdmi, another to pass controls. The UI oddly freezes, the cursors get locked to one screen. The apps can't be dragged to the other screen unless for some odd reason the task/app button is pressed. If the other display is also touch, then input gets repeatedly pressed and so on. Overall a horrible experience probably from the vestigial twinview processes. There is WinX launcher and Computer Launcher Pro that works better than Taskbar but on mirror mode. Secondscreen can be made to work in conjunction with them. Still a pretty unstable setup. Sometimes the display won't get signal and instead work as a drawing pad input lol.
Many flagship Android Smart phones can do all that AND make calls. Either make handheld gaming PCs or actual console handhelds (PS Vita 2, Xbox handheld, Switch 2 etc..) Streaming only devices or phoneless smart phones are pointless.
it's still shame that Snapdragon G3x gen 1 is such disappointment and even more shameful that Razer didn't go for Project Linda with new Razer Phone alongside..

Hi ETA, I've been looking at new phones and most of them, especially mid / flagship killer range ones do not support usb type C 2.2 with video output. Is it that expensive a feature to support? Am I looking at this wrong? is there any other way to enable good video output? This feature completely changes how to work with your phone, I don't even know why net/chromebooks are still a thing when we´re running arround with litteral better pc's in our pockets. Thanks for the review, I do agree with the general opinion that the steamdeck/phone is just a better overall value for the price, but good on them for developing a dedicated device and the magnetic controllers look preety cool.
As long as these app developers keep forcing touch controls to show while playing via a controller, mobile gaming will never appeal to me, cool device nonetheless.

Actually this is great when comparing other android devices with a SD888 (which is what it the equivalent to the G3XGen1) it comes with a controller & already has Type C Display out.
Does anyone use this for desktop productivity with like Google Docs or some other app? I'm curious, it seems like the most useful function of this functionality would be games, emulators, and Kodi / streaming apps on a bigger screen.
Android ought to start implementing full on X86 translation like Apple's Rosetta or what MS is trying to do with Windows on Arm because these Android devices no matter how good they are still limited to only Android applications/games and some emulation. or better yet Why don't manufacturers like Samsung and few smaller outlets just offer full Linux options with their devices with some of their own GUI interfaces etc... You get a full on real Desktop OS, more control, features, flexibility and access to PC games and more Emulation.
Ignoring ios, Android although open source is really a garbagely restrictive and support lacking OS compared to Windows or Linux. The fact Linux drivers can't work on Android is a testament to that. Else by now every desktop mode, every kinda input/output, drawing tablet, musical keyboards, HDDs everything could have had drivers+SW making them work perfectly but nah.

For eta prime, I have a question about what network did you use the red magic 8 pro? I use cricket wireless which uses the at&t network. However, if an unlocked phone is not compatible with cricket wireless, it will automatically suspend the line. Crazy wireless automatically suspends the unlocked phone that is not compatible with there network is because at&t is picky about using unlocked phones on there network. The unlocked phones on at&t need to be on the white list otherwise it won't work with at&t and any cell phone service provider that uses the at&t network. The reason why at&t requires a white list of phones on there network is because they are restricting the phones that are being used on there network. Ever since at&t shutdown 3g back in 2022, it affects newer unlocked phones for any carrier that uses the at&t network. Tmobile let's you use almost any unlocked phone on there network but at&t is stingy when it comes to using unlocked phones on there network since at&t prefers there customers buy phones from them. I have a bunch of unlocked android phones that used to work with cricket wireless but they no longer with cricket wireless ever since the 3g shut down. At&t is too controlling when using unlocked phones on there network. I used tmobile and metro pcs years ago, but I don't get very good signal and coverage with tmobile and metro pcs. I get better coverage with cricket wireless and when I used to have at&t. I switched from at&t to cricket wireless because the at&t rep on the phone told me that they don't honer the $10 discount when you replace your debt card when you signed up for autopay. For example, when I was on at&t, I would get a $10 discount every month for signing up for autopay and I was using at&t prepaid service not post paid service. The at&t rep on the phone told me that I would lose the $10 autopay discount if I decided to replace my old debt card with a new debt card. The at&t rep on the phone told me in order to keep the $10 I would have to stick to using my old debt card. I had to replace my old debt card since it's old and scratched up and the chip reader was having issues when using it at payment terminals. I asked the at&t rep on the phone will they honor the $10 discount for autopay when I replace my old debt card with a new debt card and the at&t rep said no on the phone because I already got a new debt card and I would only get $5 discount for autopay and I even told the at&t that I'm a current at&t customer and the at&t rep said they can't do anything about it. The $5 discount with autopay for at&t was not worth it because they still charge you taxes and fees even with the $5 and $10 autopay discount. I ended up switched to cricket wireless because I would get the $5 discount from autopay and there is no taxes and fees. I would pay from $60 to $55 with the $5 discount on cricket wireless unlimited data plan with 15gb mobile hotspot. The great thing about the $60 plan with cricket wireless, is that they never throttle your internet speeds whenever you alot of mobile data. I used 100gb more than once every month and I never had issues with my internet being throttled. The only exception would be video streaming for youtube would be stuck at 480p with data saver enabled automatically and no way to turn off data saver since it's greyed out on the cricket wireless app. The terms and conditions of service on cricket wireless website says that data saver can't be turned off and it will always be enabled. I figured out a way to circumvent the 480p video streaming restriction is by using a vpn. I was able to watch 4k youtube videos over mobile data such as 5g with using a vpn. Certain vpn's that I tried would throttle my internet connection and they would cause youtube videos to be stuck on the loading screen. However, I found a vpn that lets me stream 4k youtube videos and use my internet connection without being throttled. The only time my internet would be slow if I was in a location with little to no service. I also get hbo max for free with ads on my unlimited cricket wireless plan. I use the sony xperia 1 iv with cricket wireless and I get full 5g and in some places, I get mm wave 5g since it says 5uw on the top right corner whenever I'm in an area with 5g mm wave. I used to use the sony xperia 1 iii but I found out 5g on the sony xperia 1 iii 5g is only compatible with tmobile and verizon only and not at&t otherwise you are stuck with 4g lte. I upgraded to the sony xperia 1 iv because I wanted full 5g support, 512gb internal storage compared to 256gb internal storage on the sony xperia 1 iii but both have micro sd card slot support, 50 percent brighter screen on the sony xperia 1 iv vs the sony xperia 1 iii and better battery life with the 5,000 mah battery compared to 4,500 mah battery on the sony xperia 1 iii while still retaining the same resolution at 4k oled 120 hz 21:9 aspect ratio from the sony xperia 1 iii to the sony xperia 1 iv. I wanna upgrade to the red magic 8 pro from the z fold 4 because I hate having to use an adapter with using wired headphones that I use all the time with my sony xperia 1 iv. The battery life on the z fold 4 is ok. The only thing that I like about the z fold 4 is the fast charging and the option to enable extra brightness on the display settings since I use the extra brightness 24/7 with the screen display brightness set to manual at 100% maxed out with autobrightness turned off, power savings turned off and dark mode turn off.
Why not just get a s20 or s21 Ultra and a telescopic controller.. I wish Razer made an all in one solution instead of the equivalent of a 6.8 inch phone in a telescopic controller.
Do you think this android 13 out of the box developer tools desktop mode coupled with taskbar app would let you use the new oneplus pro tablet running android 13 and oxygen UI over a single cable mode usb-c desktop + usb + pd [ power delivery ] connection?
This setup is pretty janky compared to something like Samsung dex. Impressive you stuck it through to get it working like you did. If mfg. Want to start charging laptop prices and throwing in laptop specs they need to start giving us laptop functionality.
Unfortunately, Android still has a LONG way to completely replace desktop-grade OS like Windows or macOS. But as a ChromeOS replacement, it's more than possible.
In my experience, you can leave the screen off when using custom Desktop Mode like DeX or Ready For to name just two. Not sure if you can do that for phones that only support video output but doesn't have custom Desktop Mode.
So using this app would a Sony xperia 1 iv have similar sort of functionality and a similar/same desktop mode...? And be able to play games on the big screen while the phone screen displays something else?

I have Oppo A95 & I've succeed to turn desktop mode & it gave me prompt to turn off my phone & turn on, but when I use type c to HDMI it doesn't work on my Samsung led tv 😢 i felt bad please I need help on this issue
Oppo A95 don't support video output. Video output is a hardware-level requirement. Even if you enable Desktop Mode from Developers setting, it won't work because the required hardware is not there. Sorry.

Just get a Steam Deck. If the best in terms of price to performance, and it has an extremely active community, who are providing support and developing tools specifically for it.
I just got the Game vise Flex for my s23 Ultra and enjoy my games that way. It's a beast. The steam deck is already underpowered and won't run everything at decent settings. The Ally is what I would get. But for now I have my X17 Alienware for heavy gaming.

If it wasn't for the Steam Deck, the Rog Ally wouldn't be coming in at that price. This was always Valve's goal: sell the Deck at a heavily subsidised price in hopes other companies do similarly with theirs, so that the handheld PC market finally gets going, instead of it always being an expensive niche. Valve set the bar in 2022, and Asus set the precedent in 2023 by selling an 8+ TFlop handheld at $699. If any company wants to compete further, they have to now match/best Asus. Regardless, the consumer and the handheld PC market wins. However, the Steam Deck brand will likely remain the only one being sold at £350 / $399 for the time being. And at that price, you are getting incredible value. But it really doesn't matter which handheld PC the consumer buys, because Steam is still the biggest PC gaming platform when it comes to actual individual game sales of PC games, so the customer is still coming to Steam and giving Valve money, regardless.
That's the nature of mirror mode since it will follow the phone's screen display. Some phones like LG can have the screen realigned to 16:9 aspect ratio.
Custom Desktop Mode like Samsung DeX, Huawei EMUI Desktop, Honor Magic Desktop, Motorola Ready For, and LG Screen+ can do it. Not sure about phones with only video output like Sony and this Razer Edge.
iF YOU CONNECT A usb 24 BIT dac, OR DONGLE i DON'T SEE WHY NOT. i MANAGED TO CONNECT a 5.1 surround sound card to a samsung NOTE 4 in the past. Audio output worked in stereo back in 2014. Might work even better now.
Smartphone SoC is so powerful these days that it can easily be the only computer someone ever needs. Heck, if you go to r/SamsungDeX, you can see a lot of them don't use Windows or macOS and only use Samsung DeX.

7 taps to activate dev mode to be exact, some Andoid versions will mention how many taps are left during tapping!

If this device had a 16:9 display it would've been perfect for emulation. but it's no better than a cheap smartphone for the same price
problem is there are better tablets in this price range and if you compare it to a phone, this is a bad value because it does not have a sim card slot
Did you skip steps with the second screen app ? They’re talking about rooting or running commands to get it to work.

Motorola Ready For is such a beast. Unlike Samsung that requires GoodLock to use 4K in DeX, Motorola put it as a native feature.

Because it will disrupt the Chromebook sales. If Google is truly serious about Desktop Mode, we should already be using it on Pixel phones.

Android ought to start implementing full on X86 translation like Apple's Rosetta or what MS is trying to do with Windows on Arm because these Android devices no matter how good they are still limited to only Android applications/games and some emulation.

Why don't manufacturers like Samsung and few smaller outlets just offer full Linux options with their devices with some of their own GUI interfaces etc...
You get a full on real Desktop OS, more control, features, flexibility and access to PC games and more Emulation.
That is why I love to see a convergance between Android and ChromeOS. After all, ChromeOS now has Play Store support.
Ignoring ios, Android although open source is really a garbagely restrictive and support lacking OS compared to Windows or Linux. The fact Linux drivers can't work on Android is a testament to that. Else by now every desktop mode, every kinda input/output, drawing tablet, musical keyboards, HDDs everything could have had drivers+SW making them work perfectly but nah.

For eta prime, I have a question about what network did you use the red magic 8 pro? I use cricket wireless which uses the at&t network. However, if an unlocked phone is not compatible with cricket wireless, it will automatically suspend the line. Crazy wireless automatically suspends the unlocked phone that is not compatible with there network is because at&t is picky about using unlocked phones on there network. The unlocked phones on at&t need to be on the white list otherwise it won't work with at&t and any cell phone service provider that uses the at&t network. The reason why at&t requires a white list of phones on there network is because they are restricting the phones that are being used on there network. Ever since at&t shutdown 3g back in 2022, it affects newer unlocked phones for any carrier that uses the at&t network. Tmobile let's you use almost any unlocked phone on there network but at&t is stingy when it comes to using unlocked phones on there network since at&t prefers there customers buy phones from them. I have a bunch of unlocked android phones that used to work with cricket wireless but they no longer with cricket wireless ever since the 3g shut down. At&t is too controlling when using unlocked phones on there network. I used tmobile and metro pcs years ago, but I don't get very good signal and coverage with tmobile and metro pcs. I get better coverage with cricket wireless and when I used to have at&t. I switched from at&t to cricket wireless because the at&t rep on the phone told me that they don't honer the $10 discount when you replace your debt card when you signed up for autopay. For example, when I was on at&t, I would get a $10 discount every month for signing up for autopay and I was using at&t prepaid service not post paid service. The at&t rep on the phone told me that I would lose the $10 autopay discount if I decided to replace my old debt card with a new debt card. The at&t rep on the phone told me in order to keep the $10 I would have to stick to using my old debt card. I had to replace my old debt card since it's old and scratched up and the chip reader was having issues when using it at payment terminals. I asked the at&t rep on the phone will they honor the $10 discount for autopay when I replace my old debt card with a new debt card and the at&t rep said no on the phone because I already got a new debt card and I would only get $5 discount for autopay and I even told the at&t that I'm a current at&t customer and the at&t rep said they can't do anything about it. The $5 discount with autopay for at&t was not worth it because they still charge you taxes and fees even with the $5 and $10 autopay discount. I ended up switched to cricket wireless because I would get the $5 discount from autopay and there is no taxes and fees. I would pay from $60 to $55 with the $5 discount on cricket wireless unlimited data plan with 15gb mobile hotspot. The great thing about the $60 plan with cricket wireless, is that they never throttle your internet speeds whenever you alot of mobile data. I used 100gb more than once every month and I never had issues with my internet being throttled. The only exception would be video streaming for youtube would be stuck at 480p with data saver enabled automatically and no way to turn off data saver since it's greyed out on the cricket wireless app. The terms and conditions of service on cricket wireless website says that data saver can't be turned off and it will always be enabled. I figured out a way to circumvent the 480p video streaming restriction is by using a vpn. I was able to watch 4k youtube videos over mobile data such as 5g with using a vpn. Certain vpn's that I tried would throttle my internet connection and they would cause youtube videos to be stuck on the loading screen. However, I found a vpn that lets me stream 4k youtube videos and use my internet connection without being throttled. The only time my internet would be slow if I was in a location with little to no service. I also get hbo max for free with ads on my unlimited cricket wireless plan. I use the sony xperia 1 iv with cricket wireless and I get full 5g and in some places, I get mm wave 5g since it says 5uw on the top right corner whenever I'm in an area with 5g mm wave. I used to use the sony xperia 1 iii but I found out 5g on the sony xperia 1 iii 5g is only compatible with tmobile and verizon only and not at&t otherwise you are stuck with 4g lte. I upgraded to the sony xperia 1 iv because I wanted full 5g support, 512gb internal storage compared to 256gb internal storage on the sony xperia 1 iii but both have micro sd card slot support, 50 percent brighter screen on the sony xperia 1 iv vs the sony xperia 1 iii and better battery life with the 5,000 mah battery compared to 4,500 mah battery on the sony xperia 1 iii while still retaining the same resolution at 4k oled 120 hz 21:9 aspect ratio from the sony xperia 1 iii to the sony xperia 1 iv. I wanna upgrade to the red magic 8 pro from the z fold 4 because I hate having to use an adapter with using wired headphones that I use all the time with my sony xperia 1 iv. The battery life on the z fold 4 is ok. The only thing that I like about the z fold 4 is the fast charging and the option to enable extra brightness on the display settings since I use the extra brightness 24/7 with the screen display brightness set to manual at 100% maxed out with autobrightness turned off, power savings turned off and dark mode turn off.
What's the performance difference between this and something like the S23 Ultra? Both in desktop mode.

This setup is pretty janky compared to something like Samsung dex. Impressive you stuck it through to get it working like you did. If mfg. Want to start charging laptop prices and throwing in laptop specs they need to start giving us laptop functionality.
Unfortunately, Android still has a LONG way to completely replace desktop-grade OS like Windows or macOS. But as a ChromeOS replacement, it's more than possible.

In my experience, you can leave the screen off when using custom Desktop Mode like DeX or Ready For to name just two. Not sure if you can do that for phones that only support video output but doesn't have custom Desktop Mode.
So using this app would a Sony xperia 1 iv have similar sort of functionality and a similar/same desktop mode...? And be able to play games on the big screen while the phone screen displays something else?

Oppo A95 don't support video output. Video output is a hardware-level requirement. Even if you enable Desktop Mode from Developers setting, it won't work because the required hardware is not there. Sorry.

I just got the Game vise Flex for my s23 Ultra and enjoy my games that way. It's a beast. The steam deck is already underpowered and won't run everything at decent settings. The Ally is what I would get. But for now I have my X17 Alienware for heavy gaming.

If it wasn't for the Steam Deck, the Rog Ally wouldn't be coming in at that price.
This was always Valve's goal: sell the Deck at a heavily subsidised price in hopes other companies do similarly with theirs, so that the handheld PC market finally gets going, instead of it always being an expensive niche.
Valve set the bar in 2022, and Asus set the precedent in 2023 by selling an 8+ TFlop handheld at $699. If any company wants to compete further, they have to now match/best Asus. Regardless, the consumer and the handheld PC market wins.
However, the Steam Deck brand will likely remain the only one being sold at £350 / $399 for the time being. And at that price, you are getting incredible value.
But it really doesn't matter which handheld PC the consumer buys, because Steam is still the biggest PC gaming platform when it comes to actual individual game sales of PC games, so the customer is still coming to Steam and giving Valve money, regardless.

That's the nature of mirror mode since it will follow the phone's screen display. Some phones like LG can have the screen realigned to 16:9 aspect ratio.

Custom Desktop Mode like Samsung DeX, Huawei EMUI Desktop, Honor Magic Desktop, Motorola Ready For, and LG Screen+ can do it. Not sure about phones with only video output like Sony and this Razer Edge.

We went from trying to get away from the desktop to go portable, to trying to turn portable into a desktop.
Smartphone SoC is so powerful these days that it can easily be the only computer someone ever needs. Heck, if you go to r/SamsungDeX, you can see a lot of them don't use Windows or macOS and only use Samsung DeX.
