  • In this video we review 5 woodworking tips for your drill press.
The Drill Press is often and after-thought tool, but once you get one you can't imagine living without, but it's the one tool where accessories can really make a difference in your drilling, like drill press vice, sanding drums, a set of forstner bits, brad tipped drill bits, twist bit drill bits and so on and to make them all quicker and easier to use, I have adapted my drill press area more convenient to use them these drills.

I simply love the guy. I think he's one of the most honest woodworkers (ie not commercially oriented) on YT. Straight and forward tips and I've learned a lot from him. Please keep them coming, Colin, good work there. PS: the plate tip was a WOW moment for me.

Your hack for the drill key is a good idea. I solved the problem in a different way.. I have a ratchet drill key attached to a three foot fine chain,( so it never walks away!). It always sits on the side of the bench. After I tighten the drill chuck, I immediately set the ratchet to the off position so it is ready to remove the drill bit when I am finished.
    thanks for the video!

Colin, you have the most incredible ideas for drill press guys, like me. As a matter of fact, I just came in from my laundry/wood shop after using the drill press. I just ran back out and put your magnet and pie-plate trick to work. Tomorrow I'll dig out my large, right-angle "squares" and matching clamps and keep them nearby. Still looking for a good machinist's vise. Looking forward to catching up on your other videos. Thanks a million.

I have a small magnetic dish on top of the drill press. There I keep my drill chuck and the screws for the vice. The vice itself I leave on the moveable platform or at the foot of the
drill press. That dust dish will come in very handy.

Some great tips here! I plug my drill press into a foot switch to turn it off and on with my foot. Then should the drill jam i can easily turn it off and free up the drill without letting go of the vise or piece i"m drilling. For very little money it make the drill press much safer! Thanks for your great tips.
