Thank you for your kindness in the comment section! I also wanted to acknowledge the help my parents gave me to make this 'mini-retirement' happen, in this video: How Much Money Did My Parents Give Me to Travel For 1 Whole Year? ruclips.net/video/9foIGEd8m4k/видео.htmlsi=zgs_uCQXDjfh1yiD May you have the courage to design the life you deserve 💙
I wish you all the best. You truly sounded exhausted from life in your viral video. I'm also a doctor in EU and the "resident life" isn't easy. I don't like the work-life-balance, but I do like my specialty and the job per se. I always say "it would be perfect if we could work only 5-6hrs a day (instead of 10+)", after that it's just too much. I've seen many colleagues leaving the medical field because of the psychological toll it takes to be a doctor. Enjoy your trip! I was in Japan and climbed Mt Fuji this year, one of my life dreams :) working is (kinda) important, but it's only a job (and it should stay that way).
Hi, I think people envy you. You both are young and I think your choice to travel is the wisest thing to do right now. We all have our own paths in life and we need to walk them through. I wouldn't rush to have kids. I was 38 when I was ready to have my son. First I had to get out of stressful job and just rest and let myself heal. Of course us women there is a time limit to have a family, but I think I'm a better mom when I'm older and wiser. I'm 51 now and my son is a teenager now and life is really good. 😄I really enjoy your videos and I like your idea to live now and not to wait when you retire. Travel safe with your girlfriend and enjoy! 😊
I think the negative comments just prove the point you are making. It’s time to rethink what it is we are supposed to achieve in life. For me, it happiness. What more could you want ?
You are looking after yourself & loved one, and by speaking your truth you are finding your way in life. As a talented medical person one day something will unexpectedly appear to you & you will know your future direction. Best wishes to you ( from Brissy)
Your life is your own, you don’t need to justify what you are doing to any one. ❤ I left my high paying NHS Job too, just 1 week now but I am in my 50’s. Toxic environment and I am glad to have left!
I've been contemplating this myself. I'm a psychiatric nurse practitioner working in community mental health and burned out beyond belief. I've been working 100% by Telehealth for the last 5 years and have so much freedom but still miserable as hell. The thing we have to think about in the US is having a medical emergency while unemployed. Or just not being able to maintain routine preventative medical care. No free healthcare as the UK. I guess risks vs benefits applies here. Thanks for sharing your experience. Cheers to you!
Don’t think too much! Just enjoy living wherever you’re. We only living once and one moment to next in presence. Future belong to G-d. Please be safe and take good care of yourself! 🙏♥️♥️♥️
I am not in the medical field (although uncle is a radiologist) but like to watch medical youtubers- the MIT doctor is just a genuine nice guy, reflective on life with some beautiful relaxing videos in nature.
Thanks for Dooby comment (he is special)..Keep the philosophical element going...its very attractive and interesting...Ignore the kid issue ...we are not all made to be stoic!
Nice video, I watched your first one too. I think I am someone who has a similar mindset to you but slightly different educational background - I am someone that got a PhD in the natural sciences after always loving science and learning about the natural world and how it works. However, I became quite disillisioned with aspects of academia during the second half of my PhD and as I went on. In some ways I am in an equivalent position to what you were as a junior doctor - I am still junior and am on fixed-term research contracts rather than an established independent researcher with my own lab. My current view is that even if I was one of the few to "make it" as an independent researcher I would not be happy in that role. So I am considering leaving academia at the end of my current contract. I am still not sure what I will do next, perhaps I will travel for some time and have a "mini-retirement" as I did not take a break immediately after finishing my PhD. I have found that during travel, reflection and when living a slower pace of life I have been my most happy. I hope you keep putting out videos and I wish you all the best on your journey!
100% right to get your self grounded and content with yourself before bringing children into this world. Your children will be so much better off emitionally if youre in a better place! Good for you pal - all the best
I think people make bad comments on you because they envy you. Those people are mostly the ones who can’t afford to pick themselves up quitting their jobs and start traveling. They hide the truth behind saying these things like asking if you have children talking about responsibility or what will you do once you are old and not having savings. They want to do the same but they just can’t. I am talking from my experience except I don’t envy you. I wish same for my daughter who is currently 18 being able to do same thing you are doing. As you said everyone wants better life for their kids. So do I. We don’t have money but I would want for her exactly what you have been doing. No matter what other people think. Know that most of the time people speak badly about others because of envy. Good luck and keep doing what you like inspiring others. Greetings from Czech Republic.
Oh what a jealous man with his comment. I really think it is a great idea with what you are doing. I’ve been retired for 20 years and love it. Enjoy your mini retirement.
I take the freedom of repeating the comment i wrote under "Doctor to Unemployed" because it looks like it will not drown so easily here ;-) "Glad that you've found your path! :-D The whole time i watched you talking, i was thinking that you might do good in checking out Sammy Vanek here on YT. You feel like brothers in a way. There are similarities in your journeys, but differences in the paths and the view. I think Sammy's nature-focused perspective on life might inspire you, in the same way you inspire others with your perspective on life. Be well and please hug your shining soul of a fiance from me (no fears, 63 yo hetero female here)."
I don't understand what took the doctor so long to realize he wasn't curing disease but only treating symptoms, he should have realized this during school and clinicals?
The reason is that doctors have been treating diseases or at least tried to before. However, recently, as we have entered the 21st century, doctors' real jobs have changed to business to make money like any other jobs, which is why many doctors have realized the situation only recently.
It is not that complex. Since after recent events, most wise people know not to trust doctors for health advice. Drs know a lot, but not much really when it comes to the truth and how to heal sickness. Different areas in mainstream medicine can heal, counselling etc, but let's be honest. Their goal is to fix the symptoms. They don't even want to look at the cause or help it. Even if they want to, they have to follow SOP and treat symptoms only.

I agree, it's hard to find the balance but you're doing well to still love what you do, good luck! Would love to do Mt Fuji one day too

Thanks for commenting here, I would have missed it otherwise! I shall check out his channel and give my fiance a hug from you :) All the best.
What is the name of the river on your back?
This is "your" story. Keep living it and telling it... ignore the naysayers.
Hi Dr Chris G, are you still in Brisbane? if you are interested to catch up for coffee.
I think it's because he seems truly authentic, and somehow you don't seem authentic. Just a gut feeling
How do you measure authenticity?
I don't understand what took the doctor so long to realize he wasn't curing disease but only treating symptoms, he should have realized this during school and clinicals?

As well as no nutrition classes
