48yr old Limerick man here, when I heard about the retirement of joe Canning it felt like a death to me,an end of an era.Joe will always be remembered as a legendary hurler, always classy and never dirty..will be hard to see his likes again..I wish him all the very best for life now outside hurling,he deserves it.

@@kieran3237 it doesn't matter tho if a team has looked a bit down And out as say Galway in 2018 like the comeback And those shocking decisions that went limericks way we had scored like 2 goals And 2 And the momentum was with us And we were at the peak of our power at the time we didhnt deserve to loose that game but James Owens is just awful And not just in that btw but limerick have been great winning the last 3 in a row but has nothing to do with 2018

Tommy, absolutely spot on as usual...all eyes and hurls were on Joe's back, none of the Galway lad's stepped up, when they needed to! Whelan/Mannion did at times, but there was no consistency with them and the other lads...Harsh but true...

Tommy's on the fringes while some of the biggest blowhards in the GAA get all the airtime. Maybe Tommy wants nothing to do with it, maybe he's just too honest for the big boys.

If Joe had been born in the states he would probably have had a great chance at being a top pro in Baseball & or Football. Just an amazing athlete. I'm sure glad he was born where he was. Class act. Love Tommy's commentary. Looks like he's got some sun. 😉

The problem with having a player that is too good is the rest of the team get over dependant on that player and forget to play their own game and the team doesn't evolve. I think Padi O Sheai realised this when he left Maurice Fitzgerald on the sideline.

Ring once said, "let no one say the best hurlers belong to the past, they are with us now, and better yet to come". He was speaking about Joe.
My favourite player was Tommy Timber & his swashbuckling style of hurling. Fearless he was. I thought my fellow club man Niall Mac always brought the best out in ya Tommy boy 😀
