Yo Jon I've been watching your videos since the f30 days. Its been an amazing journey seeing the way you go about your builds. This video personally i don't mind the little imperfections with the silicone. Its all your work and I'm saying great job 👍
This car is tight, you're a caring driver. Don't be ashamed of that.
Been here from the M2 days, love the build and the constant video uploads.
John, I have put down silicone/culk many, many times in bathrooms, kitchens, sinks, tubs, windows ect..ect... owning homes now for 25 years. Dude I suck at laying a perfectly smooth line. I have tried every tool out there. Seriously, the absolute best (cleanest) culk/silicone lines I have ever put down I have used my finger with smooth finished (no grip, not work style but more like Dr. Office) exam gloves on. You can still clean that line up on M3 roof delete. Silicone will stick to silicone. Tape it off again, run another bead around it and smooth out with your finger wearing latex (exam style) gloves 👊👍
Details for the roof are extremely on point 👌 It looked like wrap to me at first 😂 Don’t worry the silicon looks good, once it settles in it’ll be better than you think !
such a nice touch, well done jon!
The sunroof plug looks great, you can always go over it again w more sealant as when it dries it usually contracts a little. My guy that made the ones for my car says use an ice cube for the final pass to make it really even and flat, it worked really well. - cheers
You are the reason to make me wrench on my cars, i also owned an F30 been watching your videos since you had an M2
I deal with sealant like this on a regular basis daily....the masking job was fine but using a good saturated paint brush with some alcohol and water would have made it a lot easier to smooth and manipulate the seal into a perfect shape and glossy finish. Still can probably add some additional on top of it and still get a nice finish.
The build is coming together really nice. Going to be a great track car.
The e36 is coming together nicely bro. Love it!
Looks sick bro. 👍🏼
The sunroof is lookin good!
Amen Jon, Built to be driven!!
I love your content keep it up 👍 North Carolina boys 👍👍
Hey thic that sunroof delete looks good. I think to archive a nice bead with the silicone, you'll need silicone with a caulking gun. And well done for liqui moly. That's the only oil I use.
Thanks!
Hey Jon, another great video! Can you update us on the garage air conditioner?
Pro tip:
spit on your index finger, apply silicone and pull your finger over it.
I think there were two problems: first one you waited too long with the silicone molding, as far as i can see the crust on the surface has already started to stick.
Secondly, you used plastic, it is not recommended to use it more than once, or for a long time, because small pieces of dried silicone remain and furrows are formed.
But as far as i can see it is not terrible, it can be fixed, i advise you to apply a thin layer of silicone again and this time use your index finger.
As always, your words are an inspiration. Thanks Jon.
Thanks brotha
love your content bro
I like using a wet finger rather than a tool. It seems easier to feel the high/low spots that way.
That makes sense
Thats what she said
Oh damn 😳
@@ThicWhips can confirm.
U track the hell out of that car. Let others keep garage Queens. These have been good videos can't wait to see the car at vir
You can try to tape the edges again, use a corse San paper, add a light layer of silicon again, just enough to fill the low spots, wet your finger and go around edges again. This smooth the finish fairly well.
Good stuff man, what rear cage is that?
Looks good man, could you have done this prior to the wrap and then wrap over it to make it appear to be a slick roof? I'm debating doing the same to my e92 and debating having a fabricator weld in sheet metal vs delete panel under the wrap vs doing it the same way you did.
it’s been a while but i hope you didn’t get it welded in, or at least i hope the roof didn’t end up warped like mine 🤧
@Thic Whips
Curious if there's a sunroof panel option that's removable with fasteners that can be removed and tightened by hand. It would need a gasket, but it seems like there would be a manual sunroof option out there
No but people have made similar options
I'm trying to get a sunroof delete on my newly bought 325i, found a video of someone saying the SR2 sunroofs were super snug but they don't exist anymore :( any other suggestions?
Bro the sunroof delete looks awesome 😎 from where it' was it's epic love it bro
The E36 is become nice and nicer!
What do u use to clean your engine cover?? Love your vlogs !! Car is looking really nice !
Hey. I saw in one of your videos a canvas print of your F30 and it looked so good.. where could i get one of those for my ride :)
probably needed a caulking gun to avoid air bubbles.
you might be able to add a little bit more on top once it's dry to flatten the silicone.
I agree. I say wait for it to dry and settle then reapply another small coat to the top and flatten it again!
Hey Jon,
Car’s looking better everyday!
What about wrapping the whole roof to cover the imperfection of the hood delete?
It would look very bad, you can see a spec of dust through a wrap. I don’t mind the delete, it’s ok
I know this is 2 years ago, but did you think about a skim coat on top after it cures, using your finger ?
Where do you order oem bmw parts ?
I would have used the sunroof rubber surround to seal the crevice if possible.
What happened to your garage ac unit??
Retape A sharp blade and a lot of patience 😂
Life lessons from Thic Whips!! Don't be afraid of making mistakes - 'smoke those holes!!' ✌✌
Yesss lol
When the harbor freight Jack stands come out, there will be sweat and possibly blood 😅
You’re gonna have a blast tracking it. My friend has an e36 with an s54 swap and it’s by far one of the best drivers cars I’ve driven. What tracks are you planning to go to?
Can’t wait! Cmp and vir
@@ThicWhips ah I’ve heard good things about those tracks! I feel like as your progress, your should definitely try AMP and Road Atlanta
Are you doing this for weight savings? And if so, how much weight are you really saving?
trying to keep a car 100% perfect was the most unnecessary stress I ever put myself through in my 20's
Is there some reason you didn't use clear silicone? My MKIII Jetta roof leaks. Put new gasket on 5 years ago. Haven't opened it since. Gonna get new gasket and then seal it with clear silicone using original panel/glass. Hate sunroofs! Good job!
Black in my opinion looks as oem as possible. I added another thin layer to even things out and have had zero leaks to the date. Pretty happy with it!
Wow, 21 minutes!.. not welded so glue in, hold with magnets then screw once dried
Thoughts on making a new motivational video like the one you did a year ago? 🤔
Does the sunroof not add value?
Sheesh
Man I feel that delay bs. I have like 4 different parts delayed for over 6 weeks already 🤧
Facts, it’s crazy right now
16:57 cringe 😂😂😂
Sunroof deletes are stupid, IMO. I won’t buy a car without one. Not going to make a significant impact on driving or weight. I just restored a 1999 M3 convertible. I actually have the hardtop for it also. Wish I could cut a roof into that. Top down driving is the best though.
