Have you tried the Casio W218H? It’s the budget gShock at a price of $16 US. Plus it has a larger font for the characters and way better buttons.

Readability of the grey one is better. I’ve got both versions. The gold version is a tad nicer looking though in my opinion.

The gold is beautiful but the gray is better for checking the time. I sold my gold W217 and bought a gray one.
