I just backed the new Excavation Earth campaign based on the previously released gameplay of the original base game from Frances and Anthony. Cheers!

@46:27 you forgot to take the bonus for taking over the planet.
LOL at final scoring - paper exists :)
Love this game and thanks for the play through. I'm awaiting second printings to arrive in the UK.
I also thought it looked intimidating, but taught the version on BGA in about 10 mins, everyone at the table just got it due to the simple turn structure.
The way the tech tree is different each time makes for a high degree of replayablity

Great game, which I personally consider the best debut in 2020. A couple of details that many people miss - your population is not human but androids, which is why they come packaged in crates and then are repurposed as needed (or returned back to crates). Also, the star systems used are actual star systems you can observe from Earth. It is why a lot of them have names consisting only of letters and numbers, it’s what astronomers name them.
A couple of additional rule corrections. First, once you trigger the end, you complete your current round and play one more. This is important, as it allows you to finish things you have almost completed, so Frances could have colonised that system. Furthermore, you can still do achievements, even if the ending has been triggered. Second, you can choose the second disc to place on your card during colonisation only when the system has both specialisations. If it has only one, you need to match the disc you have already placed.
Finally, I do need to iterate that by not explaining what the game goals are, you are making your playthroughs more difficult to understand. For instance, it doesn’t become immediately clear why you want to colonise, as you on,y briefly mention colonised systems bring points, and until the very end of the game viewers don’t understand that researched technologies bring you points as well. It would be nice for people who don’t know he game to have an idea what can bring you victory, as they could understand better why you chose the moves you did.
Anyway, this is a great medium-complexity game, and it doesn’t take a long time to play. If everyone is familiar with the rules, it takes 30 minutes per player tops, which is great for putting it out in the evening on a work day. Also, it scales very nicely with more players - you could have shown the back side of the space exploration board, by the way, which has an additional planet spot and two more space yard systems to control.

I too came to the comments to point out the missed final extra round. Poor Frances

One of my favorite games. Mechanics are simple....move your pawn to a space and take that action....which makes it very easy to teach. Yet it's full of strategic depth and with the variable set up, it has high replay value.

6:15 Those face down technology cards are almost perfectly centered and placed that at first I thought the image, that is their card backs, was printed on the board. Did you two measure that placement? 😂 😂 😂

I wish you guys zoomed in more on spots of the board and new cards. The static overhead shot is too far away.

I enjoyed the playthrough, thanks. Really makes me want to buy a copy. Someone else said it too, but I really wish it was better looking, but I understand why you wouldn't want art on the cards... there is a lot there. They get a lot of mileage out of those cubes tripling up as resources, population and ship upgrades.

Well played! Just one thing at the end... you do get to play one full extra turn after the 3 achievement disks are placed. The game does not end immediately

Played it so many times, its even on bga. I have 16 games logged and 3 in person from this year. I think it has a great entry point for people wanting to play a deeper game, its my favorite non KS game from last year. Will probably stay a hidden gem for sometime.

I was always a big no on this game, from the looks to other reviews not giving it a glowing recommendation. However this playthrough has totally changed my mind. All of a sudden I really want to play it and your enthusiasm for this game has made it shine. I still wish there was a bit more artwork but I'm now on the lookout for this to purchase, (not going to be easy at the moment, can't find it anywhere). Loved this playthrough. 😃

I’ve have seen a couple of playtroughs of this game. At first I thought it was “boring” - in the sense it looked a little “light” for my taste.
But seeing this playtrough, and others, I see it has depths and strategy to it. Thank you for this and for your thoughts about the game. I’ve hope to get this game for myself soon.
    Cheers 😊.

I did not liked this game (granted I find space anything boring), played it three times and It felt like I'm doing the same thing over and over. I also found it to be too lucky for my taste because you have no idea what's coming and like you said you might not get the guilds or good cards for that matter. I do know why (and it makes sense) they did it that way.

The looks and aesthetics of this game are its downfall and why the high price for it is unjustified and ultimately why I won't be getting it. Seriously some of the components of this game look like the primary prototypes used in the testing stage.
