    That looks exactly how my Aussie Koolie looks when he has a mini seizure (absence seizure). You have to just talk them back and love on them until they’re present again.

  • @BethSc_VV
    @BethSc_VV 2 года назад +514

    Our late terrier Max suffered from similar "funny turns", we were told they were absence seizures and the slowness was his mind recovering from it. As he got older he started having an occasional full seizures, only one or two a year, until we lost him 6 months ago to heart failure at nearly 15 years old. Talking to him helped him "come back" as well as giving him a small amount of glucose as it took a lot of energy out of him.

    I live with epilepsy. I have for 35 years. I know exactly how Sherpa is feeling, and having someone who is calm and loving to bring you around, is so important. I can have a seizure if I get worried, stressed, tired, and excited. Also, numbers aren’t good for me, and anything too repetitive like playing cards, for instance. Being supportive and compassionate is the very best thing you can do for Sherpa. 💜
    Edit, yes….doing something normal can really help, as when you come out from having your “turn” the world can feel different. So, doing something really familiar can calm that panic it leaves you with.

      Often the people who see a fit are the most worried.
      If you are out all that is usually needed ìs for people not to fall over the unexpected obstacle on the ground. Your first thought might be, "How did I get here?" and take a few minutes to work it out.
      On the other hand, there are people who are likely to need help but they should have warned their friends in advance.

    I have been avoiding watching this video, for so long. It brings back memories of what one of my labradors, Jack, would do. He would be fine, then all of a sudden he would fall over and have a seizure. The scariest moments of our time with him. His seizures only happened in the last eight months of his life (he lived to 13.5 years). Sherpa did a couple of things that were similar….heavy breathing, slow walk, glazed look….but like our Jack, he finally came back. We had two labs, brothers, Jack and Grissom (who lived to 12) but only Jack had the seizures. I wish you both all the best and I know you are doing what you think is right for your boy, Jamie. Give Sherpa a big hug for me. He is a darling boy and deserves all the love he gets from you ❤❤❤❤❤❤

      The worst for me was when he had a hard time trying to do a "Sherpa High Five"(what I call it). I will always say the only bad thing about owning a dog is that their lives are too short. Even a dog who lives to be "old", say 16, is still waaaaaaay to short. All we can do is try to love them as much as they love us, which is impossible since dogs are the definition of unconditional love, until they take the same trip every dog must over the Rainbow Bridge. Sherpa is a strong boy, and it's heartbreaking to see him so lost when he has an episode. He did a little high five to let you know he still recognized you, though, and came out of it his hungry and talkative self! Hugs to Sherpa, and Happy Birthday 🧁🙂
