    Ive just ordered the Pi 5 starter kit, cant wait to get stuck in. I'm watching videos just now in advance. Any killer apps you guys can recommend would be great, cheers

      I have been meaning to do a few follow up videos at one point.
      I installed the active cooler months ago and did many different temperature tests.
      One of the apps I have taken a note of to recommend in that future video is pi-apps.io/
      It's fantastic as it lets you easily install many amazing apps at the click of a button. You can see the app list at pi-apps.io/wiki/getting-started/apps-list/

    Have you tried over clocking yours?
    I got mine on Christmas Eve and I can't over clock at all. Even upping the CPU frequency by 100hz freezes the RPI5. Yet every reviewer who got theirs on release day can over clock to 3Gz. Yes I have active cooling.
    An FYI, I got the best video payback out of Brave Browser. They only recently made an ARM64 version of their browser so I had to check it out. It has hardware video acceleration on by default too so no messing about for the end user.
    Happy New Year dude

      Hey TB.
      Happy new year.
      Mine arrived on the 23rd December. I haven't did any real testing yet. I always planned on buying the active cooler so my plan was to look into that when I pick that up.
      I did consider just buying all the accessories separately rather than a bundle so that I could just buy a different case and the active cooler. I thought the official case would be good to try and keep as a backup (e.g. if I pick up a second one later).
      Do you know why some people can overclock whilst others can't? Is it a batch issue where earlier models were clocked higher by default?
      Kevin

      @@KevinMuldoon It's either a case of the manufacturer favouring reviewers (as in the people who got theirs before release day) or the yield of the SOC is currently low.
      Mine was in the second batch from The Pi Hut so it's early days still for the yield to get better but yet again my experience is different from every reviewer who got theirs before release. It's still an excellent SBC but I was hoping to get a bit more grunt out of it. I got the same equipment the reviewers have (same SBC, same power supply) so who knows, I can only speculate.
      But if you do try and over clock, please let us know how it went.

      @@TBMartin Thats disappointing. I hope they haven't sent modified versions to reviewers to manipulate reviews.
      I got mine from Pimironi so should be similar to yours.
      Were you using an app to overclock or just modifying the main config file?

    • @TBMartin
      @TBMartin 8 месяцев назад

      @@KevinMuldoon I tried both ways. With Pi Commander and manually editing the config file. I gave up after 2 days of trying lol

      @@TBMartin Right. I don't think there's much point me trying it until I get the active cooler as the fan case doesn't do much cooling.
      Reason I've not bought it yet is I'm also buying the NVME base, but trying to find a suitable case for it.

    I am looking at getting the 5 8GB with the active cooler! Of all the reviews I have watched, the “official red and white active case” is pretty useless at both keeping the pi 5 cool and also being quiet! Most reviews have all said that the fan in the case creates an unmistakable rattle!

      @KevinMuldoon  8 месяцев назад +1

      Hey Sam.
      I haven't found it to be noisy, though I'll perhaps notice a difference if I switch to another case.
      I'll do more testing when I get the active cooler 👍

      @@KevinMuldoon I will hold off buying until I see you review! Trust you more than others! For less than £5, it would seem the official active cooler is rather good!

      @SamM-oh2cx Yeqh it's cheap. It's only £4.90 in most places, but it does always seem to be £2.99 delivery so I'll try and buy a few things at the same time. 👍
