Love what you are giving to the community! Thank You!!!
Just found your channel recently and it may be my new favorite bass-oriented channel!
Awesome! 😊
Oh man, amazing tone... Amazing distortion
Would be nice to have a video of your band playing so we can realy see your rig in action!!!
When I find a video of us worth looking at 😉
That sound on 8:30 🤤
Very nice video!
I’ve bought the simplifier and I love it.
Yeah🤘🏻. Thanks for watching.
Nice board!!! Really curious about the Simplifier! Need to investigate further! :)
Hi Erik! Yep, deserves more attention. Hopefully a future V2 can make it even more versatile. And some wish that the cab sim would be applied to the di signal only (cause it’s also applied to the line out), or selectable. See you around!
Great! Thx much
I use the bass station too and I really love it! It sound good and replaced the splitter, the vt bass Di and the omni cab dim I used before. I use the built in preamp as a fat ampegish tone and my vintage ultra is in the parallel chain with the blend wide open. Very satisfied with it but like you mentioned it has his flaws. Another one being that the cab blend affects the Di as well as the 1/4 out. I’m glad I always go direct cause the would really bother me. It would be better to have a switch that assigned the cab to channel 1, 2 or both
Thanks for the video
Great observation about the cab sim line/di. I have a really clean amp (Stopko) so I kind of like hearing the signal the front of house receives.
I just got what the name of your channel means! 😂 Awesome video!
😂😂😂🤘🏻
Thanks for this video! Didnt know about the parallel loop on the Simplifier. Ive been searching for the ideal "amp/cab" and a splitter for a bass board build and was heavily considering using an Origin Bass Rig Super Vintage with a KMA Tyler Deluxe, but im going to give the Simplifier more thought and research. Your board sounds fantastic!
Curious how things worked out for you. I am also considering this or the Origin Effects BassRig Super Vintage. My purpose is recording.
@@geoffreymerrifield5666 i havent purchased one yet, but im pretty sure im going to go with the Origin Effects BassRig Super Vintage. Im a sucker for that SVT tone and from everything i heard and read about that unit the Super Vintage does a great job at capturing that tone.
I love that Rat Bass and the Simplifier sounds great!
I think I found a nice trio of overdrives. They sound awesome when stacked!!! And yeah, that double rat sounds quite authentic. Bass Station: amazing the features considering the size…
@@thewetterbass I think you nailed it there too: they also sound great stacked! Currently I have a DOD Carcosa and a TC Mojomojo on my rehearsal board and I WANT the Mojomojo to always be on but it makes the Carcosa sound worse.
Mojomojo into the Carcosa? Too much lows coming out of the first I guess. How about Carcosa into Mojomojo?
Seriously thank you for making this video! I just got the DSM Bass Simplifier, love it, but having some issues dirt pedals going thru the preamp fx loop. Great board btw 🤟🏼
So, do you agree with what I said in the video then?
Agree with you 100%!
@@steveonoir good to know. 😊
Great video, I have been looking at the Simplifier so I was happy to see it on your board. I just wanted to mention I have the Peterson tuner and love that you can change the display color if you have a personal preference. Using a switch inside the pedal it can be set to turn off the display when not in use if you don’t want it to stay on.
Oh! Didn’t know you could do that with the Peterson. Thanks!!! 😅
@@thewetterbass look in the manual, there are 3 possible modes.
100% True Bypass Operation: In this position, the instrument signal flows through the tuner circuits only when muted by the stomp switch to enable silent tuning. When the tuner is bypassed or un-muted, both the input and the output are physically disconnected from the tuner circuit and the tuner is switched off. This allows the instrument signal to flow freely from input to output without any physical or electronic contact with the tuner's internal circuits.
Buffered Bypass: In this position, the instrument signal flows through the tuner circuits only when muted by the stomp switch to enable silent tuning. When the tuner is bypassed or un-muted, the output is driven by a preamp (buffered) with a low impedance active driver. This prevents down-stream cables from affecting the signal (AKA: Tone Sucking), or other devices that might load and distort the signal.
Buffered Bypass / Monitor Mode ( Default ): In this position, the output is driven exactly as in Buffered Bypass Mode but the tuner display remains active when un-muted to monitor tuning while playing.
@@shanechasse2687 ok, bought the pedal second hand with out the manual. Will check it out on the web page. I feel stupid not having done that before though… 🤓
I really enjoy your channel & always look forward to your dropping of new content.
I'd love to see what you'd do with even more parallel processing, with say a EHX Tri-Parallel Mixer + the Splitter & Simplifier. That would give you up to 5 parallel signals.
I currently run 6 signals in parallel with my board to craft my tone. I've found that running Clean, Octave, multiple drives, and modulation all in parallel is an absolute game changer.
😱 6??? Wow, impressive! There’s always someone that takes it a step further. So cool! Send me a photo on Instagram please!
I hate Facebook! 😂😂😂… through messenger would be great.
@@thewetterbass - I hear ya 😅🤣
@@thewetterbass - You have mail, Sir! 👌
Agree 100%! I wrote a HUMBOLDT asking for that little pre/post eq button... ;-)
Hi Fabio. You mean the loop pre/post preamp (which it the same as preamp pre/post loop 😬)?
@@thewetterbass yes... it is the only lack of this fabulous analog machine!
Yep. Hopefully in V2???
@@thewetterbass I sure hope so, I also wrote to them... I hope they make version 2 soon, are there any rumors?
They come out with a new guitar version…
Your comments on the Simplifier are the exact reasons why I didn't get one and stuck with my X7 preamp/drive and OmniCabSim in stead. I think they really dropped the ball when they discontinued the OmniCabSim in favour of the Simplifier
Yeah, I first heard of DSM through the OmniCabSum. Cool you have one!
@@thewetterbass Well, it took many years of searching and sheer luck and happenstance xD
I just subscribed. I been watching some of your videos. So to my understanding of a splitter is always on pedals n just switching channels like a A/b switch?
Thanks for subscribing! Both channels are always on when I use the board, cause I always have at least one saturation pedal on. The switching between A and B channels is mainly for quickly checking/hearing how each one sounds. So what I switch on and off are mainly the pedals on channel A (effects). Does that answer your question?
@@thewetterbass yes
Hi Sir, nice video. A little suggestion about your FX Loop complain. Considering you already have another preamp pedal, why dont you use all your distortions before your pedal preamp? You could insert all the chain into the Parallel FX Loop, and use the Preamp FX Loop for the clean signal and Chorus. I understand the sound would change as the order of the pedals would be different, but that would fix the problem so you could build your sound without having to avoid that technical limitation. Anyway, great dirt sound!
Simply because of the LPF on the parallel loop. So yes, what you mention is correct, but then the LPF function becomes useless when using drive pedals, for example.
awesome board! mine has an bass big muff after the compressor, that has two outs (wet and dry) and i was thinking about splitting the signal, but i don't know how to blend them together before the pream.
Would the spliter in work in the other way, as two inputs and one output?
that preamp looks awesome, but even selling my joyo dr sparrow, i don't think i can afford it.
Not too many option for blending back two signals. There is a Radial option, check out in reverb or 2nd hand market places, or even ask a builder like dpfx what it would cost. I bought my simplified at a fairly decent price. And no, the splitter will not work the other way around. But perhaps other do…? Don’t know! Thanks for watching.
I already split my signal for wet/dry (Rickenbacker 4003), using two outputs to plug into separate amps. Would I be able to send those separate input signals as separate output signals through the Simplifier? Love your vid by the way!
I don’t know! I have to plug a passive bass directly in the loop, see what happens. I’ll let you know as soon as I have a bit of time. Thanks for your kind words!
@@thewetterbass I just ordered one! We'll see how this goes.
4:40 Hi, thanks for your videos! I bought the Simplifier on your recommendation and I love it!
I am trying f to figure out the best way to run the mixed signal out from the Simplifier. Do you use both XLR outputs? 1 XLR and 1/4” out? Any help you can give would be amazing. Thanks again!
I’ll get back to you asap.
So, first PARALLEL OUT xlr: using the parallel loop allows you to insert a compressor or preamp to the dry signal only. This is great when recording, to have a dry signal to reamp for example.
DI OUT xlr (same as LINE OUT, not Thru): that’s everything, all the signals that go through the simplifier, including the parallel signal that you can blend in.
@@thewetterbass amazing, thank you!
I agree with you. The DSM Humb FX loop should have a pre / post preamp switch. Moreover it should allow TRS send and returns because you loose the wonderful possibilities of the amp sim when you want more than mono. So bi-amping would require a second DSM Humb ...
Stereo… imagine my head exploding right now thinking about making a pedalboard in stereo!… 😂
@@thewetterbass LOL. Compare the signal flow of the DSM & Humboldt Simplifier MKII for guitar, it is stereo there. So wonderful stereo chorus for bass, too. I have to confess that I am just a guitar player emulating bass on guitar by a EHX Bass9 machine
@@thewetterbass but bi amping bass makes it more difficult that DSM Hum FX send return problem. But anyway what a big sound. They did a great job in Chile!
@@thewetterbass and I like your bass sound!
@@rutgeremm1909 they absolutely did!
Great video! My question is: What combination would You use for an auto -wah effect (envelope filter). It is sensitive to inputted signal so in my opinion it should be placed before a compressor pedal to get desirable effect. Cheers!
You have to try. But a compressor at the beginning of the signal chain, even before the envelope filter, is just fine. Compressors don’t squash the signal that much, it’s still dynamic, however the range is not as wide (mainly peaks are reduced).
@@thewetterbass Thx for response. I'll try but I think that with slightly aggressive ratio and threshold it would be a problem. Great video once again.
@raytar84 in that case might be a problem. But not as much as you might think. Give it a try and let me know!
@@thewetterbass Sure! Thx.
@@thewetterbass Hello once again dear WB. I have checked the sequence with the envelope filter before and after compressor and in my opinion the difference is significant. The spectrum of frequencies of "wah" effect is reduced - the lows of the signal are somewhat bypassed or very much reduced, when the compressor is used before wah. With the compressor used after the autoWah pedal (MXR Envelope Filter by the way) I'm always able to hear wide spectrum of freqs, especially when I'm picking the string gently. Maybe the settings are causing this situation. Anyway... That was my feedback. Cheers!
Don't you think we need a contest between the Simplifier and the sgt-di to come?
Mmmh… could try with a loop. 👍🏻
I have wet/dry into 2 stacked cheap-ish G.C. Acoustic 100 watt amps. (Occasionaly, and most often when I'm playing all by my lonesome, I run my stereo chorus and reverb into the fx loops of the same 2 amps bypassing the preamp of one completely. I suppose I could do wet wet dry with an additional amp... 🤔🤔🤔)
Oh absolutely! So, are you saying you use stereo chorus into two amps? Did I understand correctly?
@@thewetterbass Yep. One amp has my pedal board to input, with modulation pedals (and other bits) in the fx loop, one output from the stereo pedal to that return and the 2nd to the return of the 2nd amp.
I have a Neunaber Iconoclast speaker emulator to do the same direct in, the outputs are both TS single ended and TRS balanced. My stereo chorus and reverb are the Neunaber Expanse, DSP but really great stereo. Iconoclast also for straight wet dry obvi. I use a Lehle hi impedance splitter at the front right after a tone shaping pre like the Sansamp or similar (sometimes just a good 10 band eq.) It hits touchy fuzz circuits really well.
If I'm forced to a single out to a front of house board for regular wet/dry I'll blend them, like your Mosquito but a homespun pedal
Cool…
Could you set the TRS output to thru and use that instead of the pre_amp send? That would give split outputs without going through the pre_amp stage.
But it would mean the pre_amp stage is out of the chain completely, and I don't know if the thru output is buffered or whether or not that's a problem.
Hi there, good question. I didn’t think about that. Let me test it tomorrow 😉.
Would it be a good idea in your setup, to use a Boss LS-2 to split & blend the clean + effect signals, then follow with the DSM preamp to sculpt the blended signal?
Absolutely! LS-2 doesn’t have a phase switch but the Simplifier does, so all good!
@@thewetterbassThe Lehle P-Split has a phase switch!! In case you're looking for something else :) And it's passive!! No battery needed.
I owned one but soled it. Big mistake… 😅
@@thewetterbass it's a great pedal! I have 2 as I mostly play guitar, and wanted one for my bass board as well.
Also, I emailed DSM & Humboldt about a possible Bass Station Mk2, as they're about to release the Simplifier Mk2, and they said that they don't have plans to do so right now :-( I'm hoping that the Simplifier Mk2 will be popular enough, or they get enough feedback to change some small things on the Bass Station, to do so. That said, I've currently got a Darkglass Vintage Ultra and the Bass Station sounds miles better, so I still want to get a V1 :)
Thanks for the awesome video! I love your playing style and tone!
Thank you, so kind of you! The simplified mk2 is apparently selling quite well so 🤞🏻…
It is possible to put the bass station in the effects loop of a multi-effects such as an hxeffects
Sure! Would you use it as an analog preamp/cabsim effect then?
@@thewetterbass that’s right
Awesome!
If the commodoro rat bass didn’t have its own FX loop, would you still put the octave pedal after the distortion pedals, in front of the BSS?
Always put the octave in front of a saturation pedal. You’ll love it! And if you add a modulation pedal after the saturation (like a chorus or phaser) even better. Try it and get back to me. 😉
I messaged you on fb with some questions about the simplifier
@@adrianmickles833 I am allergic to Facebook. You can ask your questions here or email them at thewetterbass@gmail.com. I will happily answer the best I can.
I want a pedal that you plug in and it splits your signal and has high and low cutt and has 2 fx send return and a blend knob and a dir out with speaker sim
Yes! And if the cab sim could be blended in and there was another DI out just for dry signal that would make my day too…
@@thewetterbass Just found a thing called THE BASS BUTLER it does a lot of this
I'm considering building something along these lines, with a pair of parallel sends/returns blended, then another single send/return.
With 2 balanced outs for wet and dry.
Not thinking of low/high pass filters on the sends, just leave that for eq or filter pedals to be placed in the effects loops.
Had thought of maybe including noise gates on the returns though if I can make something that works well.
Any thoughts on my plans or other suggestions? Would some sort of bypass blend for the 3rd send/return be desirable?
Looking around the comments I see others suggesting some alternatives to the simplifier but even with the simplifiers shortcomings, none of the others seem to have quite the same flexibility, like the boss ls2 and sgt-di, and p-split.
Are there any other options comparable to the simplifier?
Just realised I have a cheap stereo chorus pedal that when switched off is a buffered splitter.
Still want to build something though.
Hey @dsmhumbolt take look this guys! 👏🏼
