Cool, but no snapping to grids or anything else like you video. Is 2017 incapable of that snap setting perhaps? Is there some toggle somewhere? Thanks!
Thanks for writing back! All works just as in your video except there are no snaps detected within the viewport. I am trying to snap to an intersection between two column grid lines and the viewport is not activated (meaning I can't edit the model). Yes, I can be very close, but not a precise snap.
Also having this issue in 2016 - cannot snap to a datum point let alone anything else. Any solutions? (have checked the snaps dialogue in >Manage >(settings tab) >Snaps)
Paul Aubin Thanks for replying, I feel like the issue had been left out without fixing since 2012... which is half an decade ago. But thanks again, spending a bit more time drawing Reference Planes helps.
As an aside, I am amazed with the books you have published. The Renaissance Revit is an incredible work.
Thank you. Very kind of you to say.
Paul, great tutorial. You need to do a book on Revit Structure, you'd do a great job.
No concrete plans at the moment, but conversations are in the works. Thanks very much.

Works just fine in 2017. You are doing this from a a sheet right? Also, make sure the view is not activated (don't double-click)

It should snap. I have not seen this issue before.
I'll try up upload a video as it seems like a common comment about the subject. Thanks--

THANKS YOU!
It doesn't snap to wall??? or line???
Nope. Sorry. Only Datum elements: Grids, Levels and Reference planes
