Great review of the KGU.
I totally agree with your findings. I have the standard booster as well and love it. I really like to use it on my piccolo trumpet. Really great for slotting and intonation on some of the squirrelly notes.(lower register especially)
Hey T.L., great to hear from you! I’ll have to give it a try on the picc-I’ve always been wary of extra mass on little horns, but now that you mention it, it’s worth a try, considering I really do have some squirrelly notes down there.

I’m glad to have sold you on the KGU! I too love the slotting boost it gives my low register. Glad I could help with fitting instructions as well-KGU has a video on their channel but my method is slightly different.

I see they make around 5 types with 4 different weights. did you try any others? Do you have a recommendation? The one you have in this vid is the 75g classic. I was looking at the 110g Heavy. Thanks!
I did some massing on a kitchen balance as your comment piqued my mathematical curiosity...
My 'classic' booster: 78g
Standard Bach: 92g
Megatone Bach: 122g
The booster + standard blank is already *much* heavier than a typical Megatone or heavyweight mouthpiece, so I feel that if you add *too* much mass via the booster, you'll start to sacrifice the mouthpiece's natural responsiveness. I'm not saying Bach should have the final say on everything, but they did optimize the weight of their Megatones to balance the improved heavyweight slotting and the general loss of responsiveness.
So, TL;DR I wouldn't recommend going any heavier than the Classic, but I can't really speak from experience having only tried the Classic myself.
A+ for writing "piqued" instead of the "peaked" most people write (incorrectly) nowadays.
Update. I had a 3 hour rehersal with the Heavy Booster on a Yamaha Eric Miyashiro 2 mouthpiece and MF ST302 horn.
What I noticed was slotting was much better. I could slot notes I usually struggled with more accuracy (E,F,F# above High C)
My endurance was better because I wasn't fighting the center of pitch as much. Energy was good but took the edge off.
What I also noticed was that because the slots seemed 'wider/deeper' it was much harder to shake or do lip trills.
So far I'm impressed.

Do you think this accessory is fit orchestral playing?
This is an excellent tool for orchestral players in my opinion. In the orchestra it is desirable to have a steady and robust sound while playing in tune, and the KGU booster can help to achieve those things while making the job easier for you. Not everybody would benefit from it, but the KGU has helped me a lot.

One huge thing that I was scared of when I was buying it was the booster being useless. I've heard people say that boosters, Megatone (heavy) mouthpieces are a waste of money.
test it with a good mouthpiece next time...maybe a GR or Monet if you use that...not a fan of Bach mp's and the booster makes a huge difference...much better with it.
Okay, but I am a fan of Bach mouthpieces even as the owner of a GR, and I would rather test it on a solid mouthpiece that people are more likely to own.
Just buy new Monette Unity mouthpiece and no needs in any boosters. And dont be scare blow harder. This is a trumpet but not the flute. Let the trumpet sounds like a trumpet. Watch Timothey Dokshitzer.
I’d argue that’s a complete misunderstanding of Dokshitzer’s playing. His way of playing as a soloist is delicate and sensitive, and that makes it beautiful. There are some excerpts in this video where I blew pretty hard, by the way.
@@SamuelPlaysBrass I was study trumpet for 14 yrs back in Russia. Before 1991 in USSR most of trumpet players didn’t have access to good quality instruments and they played on crappy instruments very professionally. So my point is if you are pro you can play like a pro on any instrument even its a $50 horn.
