My favorite part about Alessi is how his posture changes when he turns his opponent into a kid. Cuz he isn't confident when facing against someone stronger than a child. Edit: I guess it is pretty fitting Alessi even on a metagame tier list level is great at bullying people weaker than him (low tiers) but folds spectacularly against people stronger than him. Also the reason Khan turns into a cow is that its a reference to that one cow that Anubis impaled by accident before he fell into the Nile
I can actually answer why Alessi was top tier in ventures! friends with potoatoboih who did a bunch of hftf tas, and according to them its a combination of him being one of the few characters with a dashing low, which also loops into itself which gives him an infinite, and also child mode lasts twice as long in ventures.
Not a lot of characters in Venture have low attacks out of a dash. Alessi not only is blessed with a low dash attack but also being able to loop them infinitely. That and child mode lasting waaaaaay longer makes him easily one of the best characters in that version of Jojos. Game is extra stinky though and has so much broken stuff that got changed in HFTF it really is just a different game altogether.
Once again, a move that in a modern fighting game makes a character absolutely busted, in an old school fighting game, like HftF, the character is average.

8:38 at the end of the Anubis chapter the sword tries to find a new host. First taking control of a random kid (black polnareff's deaged form) and when the kid trips and drops the sword, with it somehow being thrown at a ox on a boat (khan's deaged form) somewhere which Anubis tries to control it but loses control and is send to the bottom of a river, doomed to rust for eternity.
It's really funny how they gave Alessi, of all characters, a slot. The dude is probably the least popular character in the entire run of the manga. I wonder if it was just to enable Young Joseph. The fact that he ended up being genuinely well-liked as a result is pretty great.
I'd assume it was the Capcom side that wanted to see what they could do with him to challenge themselves. If I remember right I believe it was Capcom that wanted Shuma Gorath for the Marvel games.
@@Starsoulklr For Shuma, I remember the reasoning behind him was just that Marvel sent them an Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe and they picked out Shuma because they thought he looked cool. It's the same reason Blackheart ended up in there.
Easy, this game's roster is all about turning minor bad guys into fully fledged fightan characters. They built fun, complete characters out of Devo, Khan, Chaka and SPECIALLY Midler, who don't get much of a chance to shine in the manga and had to be fleshed out by the developers... but Alessi didn't have this problem. The guy is one of the chattiest and most eccentric Dio followers, his appearance is fairly long, he's got a lot of personality, does a lot of fun stuff that was turned into moves. They had a lot to work with is my point, and with all the fun animations and weird touches the guy has, you can tell they had a lot of fun working on him (Araki even drew him on a brand new outfit for the arcade flyer art lmaoooo)
@@penshinon59 Oh, yeah, all that is definitely true. It just sticks out, because the Alessi fight is probably the most commonly-recommended "you can skip this part" sequence in all of Part 3. (Mostly because so much of it is Naked Kid Polnareff.) And Alessi's a pretty tricky character to do, because he requires you to create new sprites and animations for all the kid characters. If I were making a Part 3 fighting game, Alessi would be... well, not _off_ the list, but definitely lower than a lot of characters who didn't make it in or were only bosses. But not only did he make it in, he made it in the first version! They put this guy in the game before Hol Horse, Mariah, N'Doul, and playable Vanilla Ice! And that's kinda bonkers to me.
I'm surprised that Alessi's Stand On forward dash bug wasn't mentioned because it's a funny one and I know some people are crazy enough to utilize it in matches from time to time (at least I remember Guruslum using it back in the day). If you time an attack right at the end of the dash, Alessi's attack will either not come out at all or will recover MUCH QUICKER. Now, if you managed to time it so that the move did not come out at all and if you were to plink another normal on the next frame, Alessi would perform TWO ATTACKS AT THE SAME TIME out of his dash WITH REDUCED RECOVERY, one move's recovery cancelling out the other one, resulting in insane advantage on block, possibly leading to extended combos as well. It is frame perfect and as long as you can time another attack on the last frame of previous all of his moves will have reduced recovery. Pretty sure we dubbed it "Genei Jin Alessi" at one point. Really hard to do but very fun to look at.
the main big reason he was Top 2 or 3 in venture is based off a few things 1. Most chars dont have dashing crouch attacks in venture,However alessi Not only still has his dashing Crouch normals they are way more plus to the point you can do a Legal loop of 3 dash c 3 dash b>5c>236aa 2.Alessi mode lasts 8 seconds so if you can time your corner meaty you can get like 6 axes which is insane 3.Damage scaling In venture is much less harsh so the combo i mentioned in point 2 does like 65% before child mode is even accounted for (92 damage)
Guilty Gear would go on to shamlessly steal half of Alessis moveset for Happy Chaos in 2021 and god bless them for doing it my boy deserved a second chance
I love the design of his stand. It's a unique stand that stems from his own shadow. It's creepy and cool at the same time with the sick secondary ability to gain a shadowy copy of whatever Alessi holds like his axe. That on it's own could have been a cool premise for his stand! Also his ability to turn back the clock on someones age would be a cool premise for a good aligned character. I imagine if he were a good guy he would own a beauty salon and make people literally younger! Kinda like the woman in part 4. Also I always wondered if Alessi could use his own ability on himself, if so he could live forever! Though I doubt it as Joesuke couldn't use crazy diamond on himself either. His stand is pretty darn powerful and kinda feels like he could be a main villan if he was a lot less skittish and cowardly. Eternal life, a creepy stand and presence followed by a damn powerful ability and you have the set up for a truly formidable main villain just like Dio!
He's a fascinating character since he's a weak man with really strong powers. Both physically weak and mentally too. He even acts like a cocky domineering villain... when his ability is in play and the opponent is nerfed hard, and the rest of the time he's a shy wimp. It's basically a case of "This guy would be a pushover if X didn't happen!" except he's the one causing it instead of just getting a lucky opportunity. It's a lot more interesting way to make a villain feel dangerous than if he was just a generic wall of muscle.

amazing video, i love seeing these analysis videos on some of the least talked about characters, everyone talks about the high or low tiers, but no one talks about the mid tiers, a video on Iggy would be really interesting.
Even though the end result isn't very good, you gotta respect the unreal amounts of effort Capcom put in to translate this random ass one off villain from the manga into a fighting game character. I don't think there's a single person that would have cared if Alessi wasn't even on the roster, but he is and Capcom decided they were going to pull out all the stops to preserve his character as faithfully as possible.
Now that I think about it, Active Stand characters should've had one particular change about them: The chip damage they would've taken should've hurt the Stand Gauge. This still gives them the No Chip Damage benefit, but there would still be a cost of some kind. If I had some way to have made changes, I would've done that or made it so that your chip damage is halved, but you wouldn't be able to die to chip damage.
They are, that's why there are two kind of Stand Crash, if you take the hit, you'll get stunned around 1 second, but if you get stand crashed while blocking, the stun duration is doubled. The problem is, not everyone have good attack that can deplete the stand gauge. Also, I think chip damage can't kill in this game? I'm not sure though, maybe they can?
Love your videos dude, especially on more niche stuff like this! But mainly commenting because Tobacco rules and I popped off a little when I saw some of his stuff lol 14:32
Tbh, Alessi being the strangest member of HftF makes sense considering he’s arguably the strangest antagonist in a part already chock full of weirdos. He’s got a really unique kit (too bad it seems to be a mixed bag) and I wonder how that sort of thing would translate to a different fighting game!
Jojo's Venture was basically an earlier version of the game with vastly different balancing, and Alessi's kit there is definitely one of the top tiers. Pretty sure they added his lousy hurtboxes in the HftF version of the game since his same moveset was a lot better beforehand
I find it very funny that, when in child mode, Hol and Boingo actually switch places and your attacks come out from the box. The box even has a little hat :DDD
The cow is a reference to the cow that Anubis (the spirit inhabiting the blade) gets stuck to near the the end of the arc, after his defeat but before it falls into the river for the rest of time (you can see the blade stuck to the cow's butt). Either that, or it references the cow that Chaka phases through with the blade near the beginning of the arc, but I think that's less likely since the cow is panicking.
yippee yippee yippee my name was said!! (became a member roughly around the time your "MORE best top tiers" vid dropped, keep making amazing content :))
The cow is a reference to when the blade broke and it flew into a cow forcing Anubis to possess the cow for a bit before polnaraff picked up the handle
I honestly wouldn't be shocked if that originally was gonna be the plan but got shut down. It would have made more sense for Jotaro to be reduced, Joseph to come out of nowhere, get bit as well, and then proceed to just Hamon it up on his ass.
I still love the fact that if you use him against Old Joseph, it just causes you a ton more trouble than it's worth. I honestly wish that is how it would have worked in the anime. He just uses his stand on whoever comes to help Pol, and it ended up being Joseph, who then proceeds to just utterly decimate Alessi, being back in his prime with full Hamon mastery again.
Old Joseph turns into Young Joseph, does that mean he becomes the same one as the one of the character select screen or a version equally as defenseless as the normal child-versions? Because they would be hilarious if the debuff designed to turn them into a punching bag, didn't against one person...
8:45 okay so i went on the wiki, apparently there was a cow that was stabbed by anubis and thats what khan turns into hen hit by alessi mode. its beena while since i watched part 3 so i cant confirm but it would make sense if that piece of metal sticking out of the cows ass was anubis lol
The lore reason why khan turns into a cow is because when jotaro defeats anubis, a child picks up the anubis katana. Anubis then tries to throw katana at jotaro but misses and hits a cow. He than tries to control the cow but instead the katana slips and falls into a river.
ive played this game on and off for years, and while i think about the game quite regularly - i forgot that iggy was in it until a single clip in this video 😅
I have a important question. When you say things like "2a" (especifically the number part) you mean the position of the joy stick right? Like, as an example, 2a would be down a right?? Edit: if 2 is down and 6 is foward, which is what i think it is, then the logic would be that it starts down to up, peft to right. So "9a" as an example would be pressing a while holding the joy stick in the up right corner of the joy stick. Is that correct????

They are, that's why there are two kind of Stand Crash, if you take the hit, you'll get stunned around 1 second, but if you get stand crashed while blocking, the stun duration is doubled. The problem is, not everyone have good attack that can deplete the stand gauge.
Also, I think chip damage can't kill in this game? I'm not sure though, maybe they can?
I’ll never get tired of watching videos about a fighting game I love that I only play once year for about 2 hours
15:22 Turtleyoin? LOL I wonder what Polnareff thinks of that?
I was REALLY hoping you'd do an Alessi video, super glad to see it.
Love your videos dude, especially on more niche stuff like this!
But mainly commenting because Tobacco rules and I popped off a little when I saw some of his stuff lol 14:32
“Just coming out for a cupcake”
Omfg😭
the guruslum shoutout at the end 🤘‼️ my glorious king 🙏🐐
my dyslexic ass readed "The Strongest Character" 💀💀💀
if only bro wasn't a PDF file
I’ve known of this game for YEARS and learned many secrets but today was the day I learned you can stretch out Alessi’s stand
If you’re open to suggestions I’d like to see a Devo video since he’s one of if not the first ever puppet fighter in fighting games
Satan just means adversary
"Wake up, Babe! New Heritage for the Future video by MrMixtape dropped!"
I'd love to see a video on the Josephs. Such fun characters (that are also bad)
8:29 and Midler turns into a lawsuit!
As if the other characters isn't any different
I find it very funny that, when in child mode, Hol and Boingo actually switch places and your attacks come out from the box. The box even has a little hat :DDD
I think rubber would be an interesting character for you to talk on due to his meta evolving
THE SHADOW HAS HURTBOXES 😮
yippee yippee yippee my name was said!! (became a member roughly around the time your "MORE best top tiers" vid dropped, keep making amazing content :))
The cow is a reference to when the blade broke and it flew into a cow forcing Anubis to possess the cow for a bit before polnaraff picked up the handle
Alessi turning Joseph back into his Part 2 Self made me think about what a huge missed opportunity it was in the anime.
I honestly wouldn't be shocked if that originally was gonna be the plan but got shut down. It would have made more sense for Jotaro to be reduced, Joseph to come out of nowhere, get bit as well, and then proceed to just Hamon it up on his ass.
Hope you talk about the rest of the characters in this game.
I like these character analysis
I dont care for the character itself but seeing this gameplay might make me consider playing him
i love alessi in this game he's so funny he's my favorite character in it
I think the cow is a reference to the start of its episode when Anubis is found
no way they gave this guy a better gun move than hol horse
I still love the fact that if you use him against Old Joseph, it just causes you a ton more trouble than it's worth. I honestly wish that is how it would have worked in the anime. He just uses his stand on whoever comes to help Pol, and it ended up being Joseph, who then proceeds to just utterly decimate Alessi, being back in his prime with full Hamon mastery again.
alessi is the token "what the fuck" type character in fighting games
the cow is a reference to the blade he's holding being defeated by hitting a cow and falling into a river
The cow is a reference to when Anubis got stuck inside a cow after being beaten by jotaro
2:10 cause them to play their death scream?! bro that is creepy af
That quote is insane
12:12 What do the green boxes represent? red=hitbox, blue=hurtbox, green=?
Those are collision boxes.
Thank you, after this video I thinked to learn Alessi
12:50 Alessie truly was the OG Zato 1
You should lowkey how they turned Midler from an absolute nothing burger to an actual character
15:40 can't believe I've never heard anyone say "play the game instead of playing the lame" before... wow
12:27 best part
He than tries to control the cow but instead the katana slips and falls into a river.
tbh i first read the title as "strongest" and i was utterly confused
ive played this game on and off for years, and while i think about the game quite regularly - i forgot that iggy was in it until a single clip in this video 😅
When i see Alessi I keep thinking he has a mustache
I have a important question. When you say things like "2a" (especifically the number part) you mean the position of the joy stick right? Like, as an example, 2a would be down a right??
Edit: if 2 is down and 6 is foward, which is what i think it is, then the logic would be that it starts down to up, peft to right. So "9a" as an example would be pressing a while holding the joy stick in the up right corner of the joy stick. Is that correct????
I have a question. Can't Alessi use his air (stand off) normals as a sort of anti air? Like, if the hit boxes are good enough to do so, at least.
queston, why are you giving me nuclear launch codes instead of just saying "quarter-circle back, half-circle forward + attack"?
Can we get Young Joseph next?
12:23 Jotaro’s hitbox looks so weird. It looks REALLY unintuitive
