  • In this video we take a look back at the facts of the very first time the Flintstones Hanna Barbera cartoon series was rebooted or at least revisited in the form of the Saturday morning cartoon the Pebbles and Bamm- Bamm Show.
In 1971 the Flintstones came back after having been canceled in 1966. This time around, years had passed and now Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm the children of Fred and Wilma Flintstone and Betty and Barney Rubble had became teenagers.
It was a decent show that pretty much left off where the old series had ended as far as the jokes and art style go. It was a nice cartoon that gave us a glimpse into the future of the Flintstones, but it was not without a couple of hitches. Like what happened to Bamm-Bamm Rubble. Where did his super strength go?
We take a look at the actors from the series, the old returning actors like Alan Reed, Mel Blanc, and Jean Vander Pyl as well as the new voice actors like Sally Strutters who voiced Pebbles Flintstone and Jay North who voiced Bam Bam.
I also discuss the interesting history of Jay North's career in television that dated back to the very popular Dennis the Menace.
Also, we talk about the voice of Moonrock, Lennie Weinrib who did the Time for Timer ads and did work for Sid and Marty Krofft.
And of course, there was the voice of Scooby Doo and the character from this television series, Schleprock.

@wondercub In the "Rip Van Flintstone" episode of The Flintstones, Fred dreams that he falls asleep for 20 years. In the future, Pebbles and Bamm Bamm are now married. Not only does Bamm Bamm still have his super strength (he lifts Fred off the ground while shaking hands with him), he's now somewhere between 7 and 8 feet tall!

Pebbles is like Batman. She carries a sliver of Kryptonite at all times to keep Bammer under control.

@richardranke3158 In 1969 Don Messick briefly worked at rival studio Filmation, on the original Sabrina the Teenage Witch cartoons. He voiced Harvey and Chili Dog, as well as doing incidental voices. (And in the first episode, "Fairy Godmother", he voiced Mr. Weatherbee, who was usually voiced by Dal McKennon.) But only in the first season. In the second and third seasons, Harvey and all of the other characters voiced by Don Messick were dropped. (And with Harvey gone, all of a sudden Reggie Mantle and Dilton Doiley started showing romantic interest in Sabrina.) I wonder if he got in trouble with "Mr. B" (Joe Barbera)?

@@kennethoats2322 When Lennie Weinrib died, it wasn't even mentioned on Cartoon Brew. I wonder if it was because he was the original voice of "the most hated cartoon character of all time"? (Even though it was only in the first season.) Surely his other voicework, like Timer and H. R. Pufnstuf, makes up for that. I think he was also a writer for H. R. Pufnstuf, in addition to voicing H. R. Pufnstuf and I think Stupid Bat, using the same "dumb" voice he later used for High Riser in Wheelie and the Chopper Bunch, and for McDonalds Grimace.
Another voice he did was the spoiled brat prince in the new framing animation in Bugs Bunny's 3rd Movie: 1001 Rabbit Tales. He voiced both characters in DePatie Freleng's "Roland and Rattfink" cartoons. (Except in "The Deadwood Thunderball", in which they're voiced by John Byner and Dave Barry. Plus Mel Blanc sometimes did "vocal effects" like screams of pain and sneezing.) And I recently watched clips from The Skatebirds for the first time since the original Saturday morning broadcast, and recognized him voicing one of the Skatebirds, Knock Knock the woodpecker.

I wonder if Jay North moved to Florida in his later years? In the late 1990's he was the celebrity guest at the Baby Boombazaar in St. Petersburg, including judging a Dennis the Menace costume contest, which included the theme song from the TV series playing as the kids walked across the stage. Around the same time he judged a "messy room contest" at the Florida Home Show at the Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa.
(And as you probably know, he was a guest voice on The Simpsons. He played his adult self, wearing a Dennis the Menace costume like in one of the clips in your video. Maybe it was because Matt Groening isn't a fan of the original Dennis the Menace TV series either. He thinks that Dennis was too well-behaved compared to the comics.)
