Agree with everything you said here, but I wouldn't call the 4 mentioned games in the beginning necessarily kids games. Katamari is kind of similar to oldschool Spongebob, kids & grown-ups enjoy it for completely different reasons. Same with Trials of Mana. Kids enjoy it for certain reasons but grown-ups can enjoy it for completely different reasons. For example: Getting the nuances of the story a kid wouldn't get because their mind is not developed enough yet. Like, Trials of Mana is a game that I could totally play with my child and both of us would enjoy it for entirely different reasons. I think calling those games kids games because they are colorful also kind of misses the mark, but at that point, that really is just a nitpick. Also, Trials of Mana is an action RPG. It's not as intense as games like Elden Ring and similar stuff, but it certainly isn't boring kids gameplay (as long as you don't play on low difficulties). Edit: Also, Trials of Mana includes stuff like murder, sexual jokes, etc. Kid friendly doesn't mean that it's necessarily made for kids. I would classify it more as Shounen, which is japanese anime for boys & young men.

Pajama Sam from the 90s for example. • It's quite obvious he is quite selective when talking about games. Like you said - handpicking arguments • He is so into this masculinity stuff, I feel sorry for his wife. Nothing wrong with rooting for masculinity but his "addictive" attitude is very toxic and finds no ground. • I think his worldview comes mostly from the online media. Because if I go outside, the world is still spinning, I still can enjoy my freedom, visit friends and have fun. • He always says men are the ones who are the inventors, the creators and so on: Mostly, yes. I would say that what the guy is saying is a little over the top. It is entirely predictable at this point. And I also understand why he's getting weird about it. We already know there are "game consultation companies" that are really propaganda outlets for extreme progressive and feminazi ideals. Games like Concord and Dustoborn are just 2 examples of game companies listening to bullshit and letting themselves get gaslit over non-issues. It's been going on for about 10 years now? Maybe 12? And when these games fail like they do and will, they blame all of us. You guys know it. We all know it. Having said that, videos like these are needed to help bring those of us who have started looking everywhere for anything to be woke back down to earth. I caught myself ALMOST doing this very same thing. Thankfully, I recognized it and stepped away from certain videos. They have created an environment with the game studios' help of suspicion and distrust. They've been trying and failing for 10ish years. His point shouldn't be about why woke games exits, the point should be why they are trying to turn every game in to a woke project. These woke devs create their own woke games funded from who knows who and, regardless of success or failure they are completing the objective. Eventually these devs get padded resume and get hired for bigger projects slowly invading franchises that were never woke to begin with, and make them worse by either sheer incompetence or by inserting woke elements in the worst possible "on the nose" ways. For instance AC shadows, if anyone is surprised by the lack of polish in the trailers and such clearly never played AC games before, it's pretty much the same as always, however the shoved obvious propaganda is what's different this time and they are paying for it. As i said in one of the previous videos, these devs are way less at fault than the gamers themselves, we let our good fate and willingness to accept every abusive anti-consummer practice be exploited to the max. And i understand you are trying to be accepting of people with different views, but accept only these people who are willing to accept your personal views too.. without trying to impose theirs on you.
I saw the video last night and found it weird he was talking shit about katamari and as well as war groove 2. Its just like advance wars which was also a great game. And katamari has been a classic since I was a teen smoking weed and just wanted to have a chill game to play and vibe with.

The culture war has gotten people on egde. As someone who wants to make my own games, I often let some of the culture war stifle my creativity because I could be labled as "woke" as I like to make female characters a lot by culture war soldiers. And I have a lot of characters that are diverse. I don't want to depend on the east for my entertainment. And the west lost its touch due to hiring malicious/incompetent activists. Plus, noone is making the type of entertainment I want anymore. So thats why I started to make my own in the first place.

Metaphor: ReFantazio, a completely new IP by Atlus and published by Sega dropped on the 11th and peaked at over 60k concurrent players on Steam. The others are all smaller indie games you might have never heard of like Streets of Rogue 2 or Wizard of Legend 2 or Windblown, a game by the same studio that made Dead Cells.

Putting in only 1 Japanese game among many western games then put in 2 Japanese games among a sample of games from various regions is misleading in comparison to the bigger picture of the entire library. DEI and corporate greed are 2 things that have ruined franchises that are clearly meant for people who enjoy edgy games that are offensive to everybody. Theres a clear lack of gritty, edgy games and I think its fair to argue that alot of devs nowadays made very user friendly games with cute artstyles that are trying to be funny most of the time but it ends up being cringe as fuck. I agree with you in essence, the same with AndyPants, but I do think it would be better if, y'know, he'd make stronger arguments. He has a good foundation, he has truth on his side, but he _still_ fumbles when he makes the videos and makes terrible arguments. I agree that Andy has gone a bit insane with the content recently. However i think it's a bit of a misnomer to state that gaming is bigger than ever. In monetary terms, 'big' game revenue (IE ignoring mobile) has kind of been flatlined at around 70bn dollars (sat at around 40bn for PC and 30bn for console) for nearly a decae now, which is why developers are trying to snag every last little bit of audience they can. Unfortunately they are not doing a very good job of it and are succeeding in losing their main audience in the process. If they can figure out a formula to unlock newer audiences without alienating their main audiences then they profit. That is why we are getting all this crap in modern games. Mobile goes hard, and dwarfs the traditional game market. This is why we have Diablo Immortal. Evil as it may be.
I agree, a LOT of people have lost their common sense when it comes to criticism on games, regardless of the "possibility" of the game being "woke", I never solely judge a game solely off something as minimal as a character being a woman, or a PoC, or whatever else. It feels disingenuous, to claim a game will fail over such a minuscule thing, outside of more important factors in which REALLY effects the overall game: Gameplay, optimization, Story/Narrative, Sound Design, OST, Controls, etc. There's more to a game and why it may succeed or fail, outside of one damn character, or characters. I don't care if every other game might have been political agenda, DEI, forced propaganda slop; that's THOSE games, it's best to give every individual a game, at least I do, the benefit of the doubt. People out here lacking real reasoning outside of, "well this game did this, and it was woke, so this game is the the same thing, so it's surely to be woke too" mentality, without anything to back it up outside of one little trailer that features a woman, or a Black guy, of a Black woman, or even a gay character. I'll admit, I don't see the need to having a character's sexuality flaunted in our faces as something important to that character themselves, maybe a bit of their personality(kind of like how Bayonetta is very sexual in her demeanor), but they need to be MORE than just that. Especially if it's not important to their overall character growth, story, narrative, etc; it just feels forced and unnecessary; yes, that's where I draw the line, because it becomes sloppy writing and takes me out of the game, if done poorly. I think the "gay and woke" line of attack is _excellent,_ but AndyPants's arguments are weak. They don't need to be weak, I think he does have a point and even his approach is a good idea, but he just keeps coming at it in the least clever way possible and using poor arguments.
His arguments are weak BECAUSE he devolves into the "gay and woke" attacks. "WOKE" is such a boring empty and meaningless word now, I find a lot more value in identifying a problem and tackling it directly, showing exactly why it's wrong, why it's problematic, why it's hypocritical, etc - why it's bad. - rather than just saying something is woke and not even developing on why. It's a nice word to shorten it down when talking to people who ALREADY know what you mean, but it's pretty bad when trying to actually expose this stuff to new people. And in Andy's case it's only made worse by the rest of the attitude and sh*t arguments. He quite literally becomes everything that the "woke supporters" want & need to paint every single other one of us as, and push for more of these ideological injections in media, as a "necessity to fight alt-right extremism". And that's not to mention all the evidence around that suggests that he's not even genuine about it given his different opinions and different channels over time.

Something which can get lost by only watching this video is that Andypants whole video was about comparing the 4 mentioned games here to "masculine oldschool" games. He didn't just showcase the game covers. He showcased the whole games with gameplay footage while calling them gay & re~~~ded. So, in his original video he certainly was serious...even though he is a grifter he wants people to take the grift seriously in order for the grift to actually work.
You're trying to address an issue that hasn't emerged yet with a side that is allied because they are against Marxism/Progressivism. People are united against it, but that doesn't mean they are in true alignment. A Christian and atheist can agree that authoritarianism is bad, but that doesn't mean they will agree on the issue of sexuality and it's effect on society. One can also say the same of Conservatives wanting an actual return to a period with higher morals while Liberals will only want to reset to early 2010s or late 2000s, before all this happened. If DEI, ESG, Progressivism, Marxism is abandoned by the wider culture, a pendulum shift from government as god, then there will be the issue of how hard will that pendulum swing the other way? Because now the issues ignored before all of this will come back up and question to how we ended up at these extremes. People will not like the answer because many of us grew up with certain thing being the norm, but those things were extremes at one point. So many will become hypocrites and those formerly bigots will return to being called such because they are confident in asserting why society ended up how it did now. By nature of having two different viewpoints and/or lifestyles, tolerance is a temporary thing. Always has been. One at it's heart wants to be the prevailing truth because those behind either believe the other to be wrong. If neither cared, then we are looking at people living with nothing of value in their lives. So there will be a clash at some point in ideas and views, it's how that is done which people look back on. When tolerance begins, it will by nature take more it's allowed until it can match or overpower the prevailing or equal opposition. This is a hard truth for some, but it's exactly how the slippery slope ended up at this place we find ourselves. History always shows civilizations become decadent, corrupt, immoral before they fall. Pointing to the things that contributed to it starts far earlier than we imagine, but there is a trigger point a decline is noticeable by all. AndyPants is either not very bright and lashing out, grifting or a bad actor trying to damage the pushback taking place. The results will be the same, but still has value in understanding where he is coming from.

Agree with everything you said here, but I wouldn't call the 4 mentioned games in the beginning necessarily kids games. Katamari is kind of similar to oldschool Spongebob, kids & grown-ups enjoy it for completely different reasons. Same with Trials of Mana. Kids enjoy it for certain reasons but grown-ups can enjoy it for completely different reasons. For example: Getting the nuances of the story a kid wouldn't get because their mind is not developed enough yet. Like, Trials of Mana is a game that I could totally play with my child and both of us would enjoy it for entirely different reasons.
I think calling those games kids games because they are colorful also kind of misses the mark, but at that point, that really is just a nitpick.
Also, Trials of Mana is an action RPG. It's not as intense as games like Elden Ring and similar stuff, but it certainly isn't boring kids gameplay (as long as you don't play on low difficulties).

I would say that what the guy is saying is a little over the top. It is entirely predictable at this point. And I also understand why he's getting weird about it.
We already know there are "game consultation companies" that are really propaganda outlets for extreme progressive and feminazi ideals. Games like Concord and Dustoborn are just 2 examples of game companies listening to bullshit and letting themselves get gaslit over non-issues. It's been going on for about 10 years now? Maybe 12? And when these games fail like they do and will, they blame all of us. You guys know it. We all know it.
Having said that, videos like these are needed to help bring those of us who have started looking everywhere for anything to be woke back down to earth.
I caught myself ALMOST doing this very same thing. Thankfully, I recognized it and stepped away from certain videos.
They have created an environment with the game studios' help of suspicion and distrust. They've been trying and failing for 10ish years. His point shouldn't be about why woke games exits, the point should be why they are trying to turn every game in to a woke project. These woke devs create their own woke games funded from who knows who and, regardless of success or failure they are completing the objective. Eventually these devs get padded resume and get hired for bigger projects slowly invading franchises that were never woke to begin with, and make them worse by either sheer incompetence or by inserting woke elements in the worst possible "on the nose" ways. For instance AC shadows, if anyone is surprised by the lack of polish in the trailers and such clearly never played AC games before, it's pretty much the same as always, however the shoved obvious propaganda is what's different this time and they are paying for it. As i said in one of the previous videos, these devs are way less at fault than the gamers themselves, we let our good fate and willingness to accept every abusive anti-consummer practice be exploited to the max.

I saw the video last night and found it weird he was talking shit about katamari and as well as war groove 2. Its just like advance wars which was also a great game. And katamari has been a classic since I was a teen smoking weed and just wanted to have a chill game to play and vibe with.
I've used to agree with his points, like all the gay agenda is being shoved into games which I do agree, because it really is obnoxiously annoying when devs try to shove the their beliefs down your throat when we want games to be just games, and not some "representation" nonsense, there are better older games do a better representation than modern games by not pushing the ideology. But, I digress, until at one point I have started to notice his pattern almost on every video he'd make is that, all he talks about wanting games to be just masculine...like, okay? There are plenty of masculine driven games out there. But of course, when he sees some game(s) with bunch of colors it is immediately "gay" and not "masculine" enough for him, when in all reality, the colorful games are just being friendly and casual. Not all games with different kinds genres have to be dark and gloomy, black and white and as well all have to be masculine. And just because the game has colors, doesn't mean it is "gay", well...that is what he thinks. I am a man myself, I love masculine and violent games, however, sometimes I just want to take a break from all the gloomy game and as well blood too that I would switch up to casual colorful games...really nothing is wrong with that and nothing is gay about it, talking to you, Andy.

The culture war has gotten people on egde. As someone who wants to make my own games, I often let some of the culture war stifle my creativity because I could be labled as "woke" as I like to make female characters a lot by culture war soldiers. And I have a lot of characters that are diverse.
I don't want to depend on the east for my entertainment. And the west lost its touch due to hiring malicious/incompetent activists. Plus, noone is making the type of entertainment I want anymore. So thats why I started to make my own in the first place.

Metaphor: ReFantazio, a completely new IP by Atlus and published by Sega dropped on the 11th and peaked at over 60k concurrent players on Steam. The others are all smaller indie games you might have never heard of like Streets of Rogue 2 or Wizard of Legend 2 or Windblown, a game by the same studio that made Dead Cells.
3:17 I think it would be a good idea to pay attention of the origins of the games. Namely, on which country the dev of the games are. Putting in only 1 Japanese game among many western games then put in 2 Japanese games among a sample of games from various regions is misleading in comparison to the bigger picture of the entire library. I don't think Kururin Squash! is more masculine than Trials of Mana.

Theres a clear lack of gritty, edgy games and I think its fair to argue that alot of devs nowadays made very user friendly games with cute artstyles that are trying to be funny most of the time but it ends up being cringe as fuck. Imagine how much more fun it would be to play Deep rock galactic if the artstyle wasnt so childlike and there was any gore at all.

I agree that Andy has gone a bit insane with the content recently.
However i think it's a bit of a misnomer to state that gaming is bigger than ever. In monetary terms, 'big' game revenue (IE ignoring mobile) has kind of been flatlined at around 70bn dollars (sat at around 40bn for PC and 30bn for console) for nearly a decae now, which is why developers are trying to snag every last little bit of audience they can.
Unfortunately they are not doing a very good job of it and are succeeding in losing their main audience in the process. If they can figure out a formula to unlock newer audiences without alienating their main audiences then they profit. That is why we are getting all this crap in modern games.
Mobile goes hard, and dwarfs the traditional game market. This is why we have Diablo Immortal. Evil as it may be.

I agree, a LOT of people have lost their common sense when it comes to criticism on games, regardless of the "possibility" of the game being "woke", I never solely judge a game solely off something as minimal as a character being a woman, or a PoC, or whatever else. It feels disingenuous, to claim a game will fail over such a minuscule thing, outside of more important factors in which REALLY effects the overall game: Gameplay, optimization, Story/Narrative, Sound Design, OST, Controls, etc. There's more to a game and why it may succeed or fail, outside of one damn character, or characters.
I don't care if every other game might have been political agenda, DEI, forced propaganda slop; that's THOSE games, it's best to give every individual a game, at least I do, the benefit of the doubt. People out here lacking real reasoning outside of, "well this game did this, and it was woke, so this game is the the same thing, so it's surely to be woke too" mentality, without anything to back it up outside of one little trailer that features a woman, or a Black guy, of a Black woman, or even a gay character. I'll admit, I don't see the need to having a character's sexuality flaunted in our faces as something important to that character themselves, maybe a bit of their personality(kind of like how Bayonetta is very sexual in her demeanor), but they need to be MORE than just that. Especially if it's not important to their overall character growth, story, narrative, etc; it just feels forced and unnecessary; yes, that's where I draw the line, because it becomes sloppy writing and takes me out of the game, if done poorly.
Andypants is a creator you need to just take what he says with a grain of salt. Nothing more than nonsense, and extreme delusional biased conjecture. The guy sees bright and vibrant colors, and will automatically call it "gay", instead of just saying, "this art style doesn't correlate with my tastes", which would be fair, because this guy obviously only cares for edgy dark gorey games; like some hormonal teenager who hates Nintendo games because "they're for kids and babies, not REAL hardcore gamers".

"WOKE" is such a boring empty and meaningless word now, I find a lot more value in identifying a problem and tackling it directly, showing exactly why it's wrong, why it's problematic, why it's hypocritical, etc - why it's bad. - rather than just saying something is woke and not even developing on why.
It's a nice word to shorten it down when talking to people who ALREADY know what you mean, but it's pretty bad when trying to actually expose this stuff to new people.
And in Andy's case it's only made worse by the rest of the attitude and sh*t arguments. He quite literally becomes everything that the "woke supporters" want & need to paint every single other one of us as, and push for more of these ideological injections in media, as a "necessity to fight alt-right extremism".
And that's not to mention all the evidence around that suggests that he's not even genuine about it given his different opinions and different channels over time.

Something which can get lost by only watching this video is that Andypants whole video was about comparing the 4 mentioned games here to "masculine oldschool" games.
He didn't just showcase the game covers. He showcased the whole games with gameplay footage while calling them gay & re~~~ded.
So, in his original video he certainly was serious...even though he is a grifter he wants people to take the grift seriously in order for the grift to actually work.
You're trying to address an issue that hasn't emerged yet with a side that is allied because they are against Marxism/Progressivism. People are united against it, but that doesn't mean they are in true alignment. A Christian and atheist can agree that authoritarianism is bad, but that doesn't mean they will agree on the issue of sexuality and it's effect on society. One can also say the same of Conservatives wanting an actual return to a period with higher morals while Liberals will only want to reset to early 2010s or late 2000s, before all this happened. If DEI, ESG, Progressivism, Marxism is abandoned by the wider culture, a pendulum shift from government as god, then there will be the issue of how hard will that pendulum swing the other way? Because now the issues ignored before all of this will come back up and question to how we ended up at these extremes. People will not like the answer because many of us grew up with certain thing being the norm, but those things were extremes at one point. So many will become hypocrites and those formerly bigots will return to being called such because they are confident in asserting why society ended up how it did now.
By nature of having two different viewpoints and/or lifestyles, tolerance is a temporary thing. Always has been. One at it's heart wants to be the prevailing truth because those behind either believe the other to be wrong. If neither cared, then we are looking at people living with nothing of value in their lives. So there will be a clash at some point in ideas and views, it's how that is done which people look back on. When tolerance begins, it will by nature take more it's allowed until it can match or overpower the prevailing or equal opposition. This is a hard truth for some, but it's exactly how the slippery slope ended up at this place we find ourselves. History always shows civilizations become decadent, corrupt, immoral before they fall. Pointing to the things that contributed to it starts far earlier than we imagine, but there is a trigger point a decline is noticeable by all.
AndyPants is either not very bright and lashing out, grifting or a bad actor trying to damage the pushback taking place. The results will be the same, but still has value in understanding where he is coming from.
