same tech but flicking down really fast you can also use it to propell yourself forward without gaining any altitude. Much harder to pull off but insane gain on even parts of the racetracks if you can manage to do it consistently

I noticed it had to do with the skyward ascent (button 2) ability, but couldn't really make it happen for myself on demand cuz I didn't know the finer mechanics involved, altho I did know to manipulate my camera in diff ways to try to trigger this effect. I stumbled on this because I often lift off from Valdrakken, near the AH, to get over to Tyrhold area for Time Rifts or Halls of Infusion M+ runs, and in doing that so many times I stumbled upon this little trick, but didn't necessarily know how to reproduce it. Now I know how to do it every time. Thanks Dr. Atnos :D
I found out about it myself. Was funny since it was like, end of the beta? Used it ever since cause of how fast it is and how much longer the boost lasts. Love to zoom past other players and see their reactions like "How the hell are you so fast?!"
@@goran77ish There are some cases where you don't for sure, I stuck with the forward ability while under the canope for the razorfen race for example, and for the entirety of the thousand needles race I just pressed forward because you are drowning in vigor so you don't actually care about efficiency on that course. However I'd say in most scenario's skyward ascent is better and just a case of finding the right timing to use it even on courses with pretty tight chokepoints in the route.
Did that race the normal way and oi was it a hassle. I kept missing it by .6 seconds so I had to minmax micro movements and turn ever so slightly sharper etc and I finally made it.

A faster way to 1 shot all gold it to gpr for max speed at start and wait to get almost max vigor while maintaing max speed , and then spam 1 and you will gold all no problem.
@@prkr_ae not helpful, as the camera can move independently of your character, I'm going to assume that you mean fly up because other wise you would be all ready facing ahead.
@@catrinastars aim to the sky with right mouse, not left mouse > skyward ascent > aim back down to forward at the direction you want to go. all 3 steps need to be be done quickly
if you do it right you can actually use surge followed by ascend to achieve the same boost affect but not have to shoot straight up into the air. works well when going up stairs and other smaller obstacles. i've known about boost up ascend since launch. funny if some people have not known this lol

It's not an exploit or anything it's just how the momentum works with moving the camera angle up real quick on the Hover ability. You go up higher/faster if you point directly up than doing it while level as seen in the vid
I thought I was just imagining things!! Awesomesauce, this trick makes Challenge Dragon Races... I wouldn't say easy sincey you can easily fly wrong when using this ability, but it shaves seconds from your time!

What exactly is the number 2 button? Skyward Ascent? Surge forward? The animation looks like Skyward Ascent.
Wasn't this like known since DF was released? I am using it all the time. You just use 1 if you are going down and want to speed up.
Even when you are going down it is better to initiate it by doing this and then aiming down instead of horizontally.

So, you know those -10 ms toxic mail boots? They affect your flying/riding speed too. Its an absolute pain.

The difference is with what was shown in the video you use 1 vigor vs 2 the way you're saying. Huge difference.
