I would definitely go with Polygon Siskiu at that $1,900 price range, you get far better parts and a better-looking and working frame. If you go the Polygon Bikes Online route you can get the 2023 Siskiu T7 for $1,700 right now and it has Tektro Orion 4-piston brakes, full Rockshox air suspension, Deore 12-speed, and a TransX Dropper. Everything on the Polygon is better and it's cheaper so it seems like a no-brainer to stick with Polygon. The biggest issue with the Salvo is it uses an uncommon 10x141 QR where as the Polygon uses a 12x148 boost thru axle which is stronger and is way more common so parts are cheaper and easier to find. Not hating on the Mongoose Salvo but there are for sure better bikes out there for the price.
Superior XF 939 TR is on sale right now for 1900. Im thinking about buying the 979 carbon for 2600. Beautiful bikes. Quite honestly, the T8 wouldn't be a bad buy for 2000.
In a world where the d7 and t7 both exist, pacific cycles needs to remember where they sell their bikes and price accordingly. At almost 2 grand I expect Dior and at least a rs recon fork
Yep. "Off brand" suspension and componentry is just unacceptable at that price point. Buy a gently used bike with SLX/XT at least for that kinda money.
Or you can get a Marin Rift zone as well but Mongoose over prices their bikes especially their higher up bikes I watched the review they did on the Mongoose guide $1,200 gravel bike and it didn't even have hydraulic disc brakes😂😂😂
That is a premium price for that bike. There are far better bikes in bike shops on sale for 2k. I just bought an Intense 951 XC for 1800 at Costco. It was a floor model, and they called me 2 weeks after I bought it so I could pick up the kit that came with it. A tool kit with a shock pump tubeless valves and so forth. The cycling market is collapsing right now. It is a great time to get into a mom and pop shop and make a deal. As always, the videos are great!
One thing I meant to mention - from a mechanic point of view - y'all are riding different types of bikes and chains, 8/9/10/11/12 speed. Make sure your "trail fix kit" is equipped with the proper width/compatible quick links if you need to repair a chain on the fly.
It looks nice but the Polygon T6 and T7 are both better bikes for $200-$400 less. The T8 is a much better bike for only $100 more. Mongoose really missed the mark with pricing on this bike.
Ari bikes is also selling their wiki peak right now for $1379. 130mm front and rear travel, same fork, a 12 speed sram sx drivetrain, and 27.5+ tires. It’s also custom fit based on the measurements you send them
Just was about to write the same thing. T8 has full Fox suspension and 12 gears SLX drivetrain for 100$ extra. You can also go for the D7, save 400$ and skip the ancient frame geometry of this Mongoose. Also that generic crankset without Hollowtech, just why?
Okay I'm not impressed by the unsealed head set but I tell you what the micro shift full pull was very impressive. You guys are great. Keep doing your thing.
I would expect shimano 12 speed, rockshox fork rear shock, sealed barings hollow bb. But not having 148 boost rear is a big no, maby i got a very good deal on my cube stereo 120r has all that @£1500 love the channel look forward to the real time review ❤
it is a boost frame that has screwed on inserts that is making it a 10x141 rear. By removing those inserts the frame becomes a thru-axle boost. and this bike goes for around 800usd not 1900
Awesome bike the only thing that has me confused is the rear wheel. Why didn't they make it a thru-axle. I mean with the way they have it setup you are going to have to totally remove the QR axle to get the wheel off since it has closed drop-outs so WTH didn't they just go with a rear thru-axle?
it is a thru-axle boost frame. It has inserts that makes it 10x141. if you remove the inserts by unscrewing just 2 tiny screws you have a boost thru-axle frame. simple as that. it costs 800 not 1900
people are coming in hot on the price on this one! i have owned a t7 for three years now and all of the comments are correct. this is unfortunate for mongoose.
While I think it’s very cool that there are bikes like this at big box stores. I gotta agree with those who are pointing to the Polygon bikes as much better bikes for this cost. Even sale bikes from the likes of Canyon and Commencal can give you a lot more bike for $1900.
I had the Mongoose Teocali 27.5", the difference with the Salvo was the rear triangle, the chainstays in the Teocali were even and the ones in the Salvo were uneven, the rest was the same and the price was $ 200.00 more on the Teocali, mine was neon green with green and blue decals, Manitou air fork with a reverse crown, Raidon air shock and Shimano XT group set , Shimano brakes too; I still miss that bike, she got stolen in broad daylight ( rack included ) in Miami. I paid $ 2000.00 for that sweet beautiful thing in 2017 and I would do it again if they were available.
It's a nice replacement for the Ledge X2. Will they come out with a 27.5 version to match to the Ledge X1? I like that the rear brake is external routing so you can change it if needed without breaking they hydraulic seal. Technical term time, I like the upper rear linkage, it has a built in mud guard/brace.
Agree with wolfman; would rather have a Ledge with upgrades. Questions: - How good does the pivot arm look? Is it beefy or wobbly like the xrPro? - how wide a tire fits in the rear? 2.6, 2.8?
I like the look of it, but not sure about the rear linkage area connections and it should have sealed bearing headset and external bottom bracket w/hollow tech style cranks at the price point. Look at Marin's Rift Zone 1 at similar price. Their rear linkage is long time proven w/bushigs /bearings.
I guess Dick's has to make money on this too so it's not as good a value as the Polygon Siskiu D6 or D7 which are hundreds of $$ less. Let alone the Siskiu T8's that's only $100 more and blows it away in specs and probably capability. I haven't ridden this Mongoose so can't be positive but I know how good the T8 is and what a value it offers.
Put some purple grips and pedals on that thing, please. I love the fact that the rear brake line is external. You could put the Tektro Orion 4 piston brake set on this bike and the ones that came with this bike on the purple Switchback.
Thanks for the video and review. I would expect a slightly better fork for that price. Would have preferred a Bucklos or a Judy 120mm. I'd rather get a ledge and upgrade with 4 piston brakes and that groupset. Groupset looks great; miggt get that for my XR pro.
At that price, the least they could have done was add sealed head set bearings and a hollow tech crank. Not sure about the price. I’m sure the competitors have both pluses and minuses compared to this one.
Nice looking bike. Slightly overpriced maybe? It really depends on how it rides. I agree with Wolfman that at the price I would be expecting hollow tech bottom bracket. A lot of bikes in that price range don’t come with any pedals as it’s a personal choice and riders often ride with clipless pedals. Great video 👍🇺🇸🇬🇧🇺🇸🇬🇧
I was thinking you guys had previously featured this bikes twin the "Young Ass" but I guess I remembered wrong? You should've taken the linkage apart to see if the pivots are bearing or bushing.
Price sounds a vut steep for this bike. For less than 100$ more i'd go with a marin rift zone 2 or a polygon t7 for cheaper. Now i'm glad mongoose is making this bike, it looks good and spec'ed smartly.
Droppin? You talking about Sam Pilgrim? He’s still around he’s still doing videos! It’s a really good thing that mongoose sent you a bike to review because when I saw this bike at Dick’s, I absolutely didn’t think it was worth the money but now I’m definitely questioning it after you went over all the details.
Yeah but on the 1900 bike it should come with at least Shimano Deore 6100 or 7100 this bike's maybe worth 1,000 there's better bikes that are cheaper like the polygon T7
the switchback bikes are solid for the price, the salvo's could be a couple hundred cheaper. Also, I heard Bass Pro sells the old Salvo frame under the name "Ascend Youngaz"
You boys are moving up in the world, on the fast track! Premium rockshox fork, premium BT groupset, premium bikes! Wow! The salvo frame design looks xc, probably 66-7mm headtube angle. For its asking price, I would expect at least a deore 6100 groupset, heck it should be a SLX 7100, at least a raidon 34 fork, sealed bearings not cage bearings. The salvo 1 doesn't sound like a good value either, I would look into specialized, giant, or polygon for the price of slavo 1. However, I am willing to bet during Thanksgiving, slavo 2 will drop to 1.5k. D!ck's does this all the time. And I, too have a XCR air, but it's on the trouvaille, and it is stiff with a soul $ucking rebound knob.
As others have said the superior trail bikes on bikes online, canyon spectral 125 and yt izzo all better spec and under 2000$. Enjoy your videos though. Dick's better put this on sale asap.
Mongoose is trying to get back into highline bike market no more budget there. Agreed price for price polygon, marin, +++ other option in same price range.
For that price, you can get a real Shimano drivetrain and Fox suspension in a Polygon... To be fair, I have enjoyed the reviews of the budget components. Are those Microshift (?) drivetrains coming up in quality or something?
Looks nice. But seems priced really high. I'd be leaning towards a Polygon, or even a Marin rift zone for that cost. For only a few hundred more, a YT Jeffsey core 1 smokes em all.
I went with a T6. I upgraded to Deore 11 speed 11-51t drivetrain, an RS Pike Sel. Fork and a few other bits... Grips, tubeless, different rear tire. Anyway, great bike for the price, especially after the upgrades. Better for the money than this Mongoose.
So it’s not the best deal, although it’s nicer then a basic department store full squish bike. If they had the 2 at like $1399 and the 1 at $999 maybe it would be a better deal. The drivetrain and wheelset look great, the crankset is just terrible, the brakes should be 4 piston tektros and the suspension is pretty low end, maybe having a Raidon up front would make it more worth the price. The worst is the same Salvo frame they have used to 10 years or so with non boost rear, bushing in some of the pivot spots and a bad head tube angle so it’s ok for a green trail bike. I know Tivk will send it regardless and I’m all for it!
Ari bikes also their lowest tier full suspension Wiki Peak bike on sale for $1300 right now. Same fork with more travel, but slightly better rear shock and a 12 speed sram sx. It's a buyers market right now and this is not good at that price range. This is comparable to the Polygon Siskiu D5 with the QR 141 which is like $600 less and regularly goes on sale for around $1000
Maybe you hit up your buddy at the Trek shop and compare this Mongoose to a Trek Roscoe. I think the 7 or 8 is in its price range. A Department store bike Vs a Cycling Shop Bike. Disclaimer: I have a Roscoe 8 and it’s great but I also rock a Mongoose Argus Trail Fat Bike. Although is a full squish vs hardtail.
1: people are complaining about the price, and I get it, but for one let’s be real - they’re going to sell it for less 90% of the time. Also people comparing to sale prices isn’t fair, that’s not the normal price of those bikes. 2: that rear axle is upgradable to a thru axle. I’m surprised Mongoose didn’t mention that (although they don’t seem to actually sell the part you need to convert it) 3: I find it interesting you weren’t sure the intense 951 at Costco was worth it (a full carbon with better parts) at $2000 but say this is decent at its price/spec
Number 3 is a little out of context. I(Wolfman) didn't feel like the on clearance large size floor model was worth us paying $2000 for, but I don't believe I ever said it wasn't a good value for someone looking for a large frame full suspension bike. I can't speak for The Tick because no one should listen to him😆.
If we are talking buying online, I cant justify that price. 1899 gets you a YT Jeffsy or Capra core 2 come end of year sales. That said I don't think it's a bad bike but No name crank set/square taper bb, qr rear axel? and micro shift anything for that price is robbery though. And that frame-set doesn't seem to be a big upgrade over the ledge.
I'm looking at a hard tail by polygon it's the xtrada 7 how will I know if it's got a square taper bottom bracket in the specs it just says BSA bottom bracket?
The frame looks to be nice quality I'll give it that, but at that price point I've seen a lot nicer bikes. Ive seen those advent X group sets on sub $800 bikes so I wouldn't definitely expect more there, plus that rear linkage design leaves a lot to be desired. I do like that it comes with tektro brakes, but I think the front fork and rear shock should be higher quality as well. For $1400 my Polygon D7se came with boost through axles, a Sr suntour Raidon fork, rock shox monarch rear shock, and Shimano deore groupset, and id argue a nicer dropper post as well
@@cameronbarber3768 Yeah I put the Advent X on my Nukeproof. It's good. But I only paid $150 for it and that was with the more expensive aluminum spided cassette.
Bikes Online has a lot better value bikes with the Polygon D and T series. This bike is more comparable to the D series. This bike should have a nicer fork, external bearing crankset, and thru-axle frame. I don't particularly like the Suntour XCR Air fork. Those have plastic bushings and get suoer aloppy pretty quick, plus they are not terribly plush. There's a lot of friction and it gets worse the heavier the rider is because you have to pump that air pressure up for correct sag.
Good lookin rig, nicely equipped.....BUT $1900? Not sure about that part. I am one of those that likes to build up and customize my bikes, so I would not buy this one. Plus, there are several in this price range that are equal and better. The 2024 Polygon Siskiu T8 comes to mind. Looking forward to the RTR!
Yeah the peice is a bit high in rhis market . Maybe $1500 woukd get interest . Its a 10 speed wih suntour suspension . Square taper bottom bracket holding onto a bit of department store bike mentally. The frame looks tame as farcas appearance with a department store look to it . I think for many a $2000 is allot of cash for a entry level mountain bike . I dont call wally world entry level by the way . They are just for tipping your toes in the water . This bike does much more of that but still hilding onto department store vision . I guess it hard to shake
Gotta look at other comparable bikes in the same price range. I would pass, bikesonline got a monopoly on entry level bikes in this range. Marin rift zone is in this price range
Mongoose pricing this for 1899 is a crime. Been wanting to get mongoose bikes but their weirdness is just throwing me off, i don’t get their issue with industry standards, they always want to be the weird brand. Component choices are decent but definitely an under 1000$ build spec.
I think it's been covered, but there are better bikes in that price range. Also, don't overlook used bikes. The bike market is down BAD right now. I'm finding barely used 2023 Trek's, Giant's and Salsa's locally for $1800-2000 with light years better components.
It's decent but the mongoose brand is not great and associated with Walmart or big stores. Like everyone has been saying, polygon T7 and D7 is cheaper and way better spec'd. The T7 component are so much better and looks so much nicer. Even the D7 is even to the mongoose Salvo in terms of geo and components and its $1499. Polygon is more capable mountain bike.
I DEFINITELY would NOT pay that for a Mongoose...you can get a used year old or two Santa Cruz, Canyon, Trek, Specialized etc. full suspension Bike for at or very close to the 2K Mark...Or go with the Polygon's brand new around the same price if not cheaper with better parts, and those have Rock Shox and a better Drivetrain & Brakes, all around better bikes for the money, $1,900 is wayyy too steep, That thing should be $1,000 TOPS, Suntour Fork, No name Dropper, it's all cheap no brand Chinese Crap, you can see it right on the Frame "CHINA"...It seems like some people have this strange addiction to finding/trying the best Department Store bikes to see if the "Compare" to actually "Good" Bikes that people know are the Industry Standards far as Brands...I don't get it but hey it's your money, If it was donated by Mongoose or whoever than sure fine, otherwise no thanks!
It's a Dicks Sporting Goods bike at its core. 😔😮💨 Price on this is an absolute negative - I totally disagree with Tick's initial assertion. Spending 2 grand on that bike is a complete mistake. There are numerous better options on the market.
Crazy money for these bargain bin components! So many minuses - tapered head tube, cheap retro looking rear triangle, cheap suspension. Vitus, Polygon etc - there's way better value out there! I genuinely like your channel and usually your ethos but I'm sad to say I find this review misleading.
This was not a review. This was just an Initial Impressions of the bike. We will have a couple of Realtime Reviews coming out in the next few weeks or so. Not sure how you found it misleading, considering we couldn't care less if you buy one or not. We are partial to buying less expensive bikes and upgrading over time. The parts on this bike are the kind of parts we usually purchase and install on $300-$500 dollar bikes. We don't consider these "bargain bin" parts. To us, these components are upgrades compared to what most of our bikes came with.
Yeah I appreciate Mongoose for trying, but this is a terribly specced bike for the money. Worst of all, it’s kind of a dead frame, as it has the QR in the rear. Not to mention the square taper bottom brocket and pretty darn small 32mm forks…it’s just not a good choice. The D series from bikes online absolutely kills this bike in both components and quality. The mongoose is a terrible choice.
Not hating on the Mongoose Salvo but there are for sure better bikes out there for the price.
I agree man. This bike is overpriced if you really dig into its competition.
Still a nice bike, but not on the radar.
The Canyon Neuron 5 is also $1,900 on sale… nope let’s pass on this one
Superior XF 939 TR is on sale right now for 1900. Im thinking about buying the 979 carbon for 2600. Beautiful bikes. Quite honestly, the T8 wouldn't be a bad buy for 2000.
Why do big box bike brands always make their frames with weird measurements? 🤦🏾10x141 is just silly.
For the money, the polygon is a better bike with better components. I bought one for a family member and tubeless setup was easy. 👍
Man! I switched over to my new fishing RUclips channel and knew I was missing something in my life. Glad y’all are still riding! -Camino Rob

Yep. "Off brand" suspension and componentry is just unacceptable at that price point.
Buy a gently used bike with SLX/XT at least for that kinda money.
1900 is steep for this thing. You can get the Superior Xf 939 TR for the same price with arguably better components.
Can get a Norco Fluid for 1700!! Or YT Izzo for 1900. And so many way better bikes for under 2k. 1200 max for this!
Okay I'm not impressed by the unsealed head set but I tell you what the micro shift full pull was very impressive.
You guys are great. Keep doing your thing.
This bike is way overpriced you can get the polygon T7 for this price or a Marin Rift zone
I use green zip ties as a compression guide. Put them on just tight enough so it moves but doesn't slide.
I am riding the AdventX on my Poseidon. I like it.
Nice looking bike lots of great parts👍

Been waiting for your new videos guys. ❤
Great job...thanks!
Just the square taper steel chainring crank says its overpriced. I think there are better buys out there in that price range

I think 1200-1300 is reasonable. Like others say, a polygon siskiu series is more affordable
Another at that price point is the Norco Fluid A4. Rock Shock Recon up front, X-Fusion rear, Shimano Deore group.

As others have said the superior trail bikes on bikes online, canyon spectral 125 and yt izzo all better spec and under 2000$. Enjoy your videos though. Dick's better put this on sale asap.
can get a good marin for that price too.
Mongoose is trying to get back into highline bike market no more budget there. Agreed price for price polygon, marin, +++ other option in same price range.
1900 and a $120 Advent X groupset. Crazy.
love my WTB trail boss on my Kona, been using for almost 2yrs now.
Should look into an Ari bike the entry level is specd probably pretty close or better than the mongoose.
I'm amazed it came with a square taper. Think it's a bit over priced.
I think I’d rather have a Polygon T6. Personal preference. More travel and cheaper
Not liking the value for $1,900. If it were $1,400 maybe, but not 19.
I’m surprised Mongoose didn’t mention that (although they don’t seem to actually sell the part you need to convert it)
3: I find it interesting you weren’t sure the intense 951 at Costco was worth it (a full carbon with better parts) at $2000 but say this is decent at its price/spec
Number 3 is a little out of context. I(Wolfman) didn't feel like the on clearance large size floor model was worth us paying $2000 for, but I don't believe I ever said it wasn't a good value for someone looking for a large frame full suspension bike. I can't speak for The Tick because no one should listen to him😆.
lol.
Okay now I get it 👍
For almost 2k you could get a canyon spectral 125, or a polygon, way better options imo
Maybe if it was $900 it'd be a good deal
That’s like a $700 bike. And that’s reaching. I’d send it back in a heartbeat.
On sale at Dick's for 1499 well Salvo 1
Wonder why my original comment was removed 🤔 I was just being honest! Never would pay 1900 for this!! Not even 1500.
Cats meow❤
that linkage system looks terrible hmm im not seeing 1800 dollars there. can get a good norco at that price.
@@txmale5070 Yup! Im about to order a Norco Fluid from jenson for $1750! Or the YT Izzo for 1900
Seems steep for what you get. 1799 Marin Riftzone 1.... Deore full xfusion suspension
That is not your Walmart Mongoose, Jeremiah ... you are gonna love that bike. So happy for you.
Gotta look at other comparable bikes in the same price range. I would pass, bikesonline got a monopoly on entry level bikes in this range. Marin rift zone is in this price range
Looks can be deceiving and this is an example even with the dropper still not work it when you can get a polygon t7 or marin rift zone
Mongoose still needs to step up. Polygon SISKIU D7 still wins the cheapest with far superior groupset.
👍👍
“Professional” bike tech at Dicks 😂
Any mountain bike that comes stock with a rockshox recon fork is a big no bueno
big pesos
No bike is worth that money.I have had motorcycle for less. But like your content.
Yet hundreds of thousands of people have bikes worth a lot more money than this one.
The Canyon Neuron 5 is on sale right now for the same price as this Salvo. Way overpriced in my opinion.
Rear shock is a pogo...
Or use that $1900 and buy a nice used Santana Cruz full sus bike on market place.
I'm finding barely used 2023 Trek's, Giant's and Salsa's locally for $1800-2000 with light years better components.
please do something to your haircut
🤣🤣 OK Grandma 👍🏻
$800 more gets me a NEW Haibike full sus E-bike ... 🤔
For 1900 bucks I don't know about that not when a polygon sisku is better speced out
I DEFINITELY would NOT pay that for a Mongoose...you can get a used year old or two Santa Cruz, Canyon, Trek, Specialized etc. full suspension Bike for at or very close to the 2K Mark...Or go with the Polygon's brand new around the same price if not cheaper with better parts, and those have Rock Shox and a better Drivetrain & Brakes, all around better bikes for the money, $1,900 is wayyy too steep, That thing should be $1,000 TOPS, Suntour Fork, No name Dropper, it's all cheap no brand Chinese Crap, you can see it right on the Frame "CHINA"...It seems like some people have this strange addiction to finding/trying the best Department Store bikes to see if the "Compare" to actually "Good" Bikes that people know are the Industry Standards far as Brands...I don't get it but hey it's your money, If it was donated by Mongoose or whoever than sure fine, otherwise no thanks!
No you cant
It's a Dicks Sporting Goods bike at its core. 😔😮💨
Price on this is an absolute negative - I totally disagree with Tick's initial assertion.
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS Apologies. Ok cool - look forward to your bang for buck review👍
Mongoose for $1899, wow
Sorry. It looks really cheesy….and the front tire is mounted backwards.
That bike is $700 max. You can build your own for $1000 with a better component.
