It's actually an old Appalachian folk song and has been recorded many times. I adore this version, but there's definitely a much bigger emphasis on the spooky vibes here than traditional versions. Their voices re perfect for this version!
This is one of my favorite songs! If I recall correctly, it's associated with Death from the TV series Supernatural. (I think it's the song they used to introduce the character.) I Could be wrong, but I remember lots of fan made music videos with this song too. It was later used as a song for the game 'Until Dawn.'
You definitely could bring the thunder, Dave. I’ve heard you do it. Great reaction, as always! One thing I like about this song is we hear more of Lauren’s lower register-she really does have quite a beautiful voice. And of course Colm is all over the place-you’d think he was two different singers when you hear both his bass and upper registers. And Bobby just has a way of sounding terrific no matter who he’s singing with.
Your reaction is always so priceless man! 😂 especially when they go into dragon mode 🐉 And you know what, Marwan a.k.a another mighty dragon breather just dropped a new cover of Grim Grinning Ghosts, probably his bassiest work ever! 😳 would love to see your reaction to it 🥰🥰
Omg… this was my first time hearing this song but it’s perfect… Lauren’s voice goes with this song so very well… actually, everybody in this song was amazing… I love it 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
The original song is from the movie "brother where art thou?" The movie is a retelling of the odesy and also mixes legends of Robert Johnson who is historically one the biggest influences of blues music. If you haven't seen the film I highly recommend watching it.
I've been in love w/ this song since the movie Songcatcher. They sing it w/ that whole back mountain side feel to it, which is actually more traditional for the song. Then Supernatural used it, which was an awesome rendition! Been trying to get Avi Kaplan to cover it for a few years. It's my belief that with his talent for this type of music, along with his velvety, seductive voice.. he could make the song into something even more amazing. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be the only one going "o... death calls me? Okay!" lol btw.. I like your voice.. Geoff n Tim would be honored.. if they'd slow down long enough lol 🌹
I've been thinking for a while, you probably do have the pipes to sing low bass. Definitely a lower voice than mine, and normal people already tend to be impressed by how low I can sing.
Oh, Death, oh Death, oh Death, Won't you spare me over another year But what is this, that I can't see With ice cold hands taking hold of me When God is gone and the Devil takes hold, Who will have mercy on your soul Oh, Death, oh Death, oh Death, No wealth, no ruin, no silver, no gold Nothing satisfies me but your soul Oh, Death, Well I am Death, none can excel, I'll open the door to heaven or hell. Oh, Death, oh Death, My name is Death and the end is here...

Rhiannon Giddens does an amazing version of this on her latest cd.
It's actually goes back even further than that, the oldest known version of this song goes back to Ireland in 1870.
The first time I heard this song was when I played Until Dawn and I fell in love with it. It's such a haunting piece and this did is MUCH justice!

Yeah. This is the closest to Supernaturals I've heard and the beat it out of the park.
Supernatural used a version of the song, but it's an old folk song. You can hear a very different rendition in O Brother Where Art Thou?

Now you GOTTA finish the bass gang Halloween cycle with Marwans Grim Grinning Ghosts!😍

it was sung in the movie, but it is a very old song, some say 1600 something. So no, the original is absolutely not from the movie.
Man, you totally have the potential to hang with the dragons. Your lows have gotten so good over the past year or so. Keep it up!

I absolutely love these three singing together. Malinda is amazing too when they all do Hoist the Colours.
This version of “O’ Death” seems to be a hybrid of the version from “O’ Brother, where art thou?” and the version from “Supernatural”.
I love this! I highly recommend checking marwans grim grinning ghosts cover, its mind blowing

You’ve done Tomi’s latest, now Bobby’s so you have to do Marwan’s latest Grim Grinning Ghosts. You won’t be disappointed.
Sounds like a bass bagpipe in the start.
Ok ok ok so I nymph no a siren sings along with men? AWESOME
Dave check out Marwan's Grim Grinning Ghosts!! You will thank the Gods of Music for that masterpiece!!
The stank face goes brrr my frend🥴🥴🥴
Oh, Death, oh Death, oh Death,
Won't you spare me over another year
But what is this, that I can't see
With ice cold hands taking hold of me
When God is gone and the Devil takes hold,
Who will have mercy on your soul
Oh, Death, oh Death, oh Death,
No wealth, no ruin, no silver, no gold
Nothing satisfies me but your soul
Oh, Death,
Well I am Death, none can excel,
I'll open the door to heaven or hell.
Oh, Death, oh Death,
My name is Death and the end is here...
This is very interesting! I like it
You might as well complete the bass gang set and react to Marwan’s grim grinning ghosts!
Try “Oh Death” Ralph Stanley
I swear you have that bass. You should do your own
It reminds me Hunt Showdown OSTs by Port Sulphur Band
I sing contra bass for my church I sing like Eric except I am only 20 turning 21. Acid reflux can do a number on your vocal cords.
Bro, you don't gotta do a video on it but check out - OH death death intro supernatural
Nice facial expressions 😂
I would love to see your reaction to Weird by the Cog is Dead!
