  • This morning I went to THE first Amazon Fresh store outside of the US, here in London at Ealing Broadway. Today I show you the whole experience at the no-till store, so strange! One day I'll get to use a smart kart, but the UK store is all about 'JUST WALK OUT'!! Are you planning on taking a trip there?

      Just finished watching and was wondering if you'd got it! Did it feel like you were shop lifting? I would feel like that I think lol. Great vlog, looked like a really good store for cities and commuters, say in stations or airports. I was also wondering how do they stop underage people taking the alcohol? Does an alarm go off based on your details? Looked like a lovely store!

      I agree !👍Waitrose & M&S are far much better priced than even Trader Joe's ! Almost like 99cent store in a sense !! I mean ,I've watched another vloger showing £ 1 ea for fresh ORGANIC produces like 🥦 !!! WOW 👏😮 I really wish if we have those groceries here & MEAL DEAL like London does !! Here in L.A. ,everything is super expensive 😫 ,the rent & everything ! 2 bedroom apartments/ flats are $2,800 the average !! 1 bedroom is around $2,000 !!! Lol. The least is $1,600? Lol. And the gas ⛽ !! I only buy organic produces, so ...! Lol. I used to think things were so ~cray cray expensive in London ( from my own experience in the 80's !! Lol. ) ,then everything was super cheap here ,now totally flipped !!! LOLLOLLOL. On top of that ,they've got a much better medical system there ! Lol.💜🥁🎵🎤🎶🐉💞

    I love it!! There are about 26 of the Amazon Go food/grocery - San Francisco (no alcohol), Seattle, New York and Chicago. Not so many of the larger stores (ones with the carts with tablets ). They are in southern California and Illinois. A couple in Seattle and also New York are in the planning stages. Nothing close to me - I am about a 50 minute drive away from San Francisco. I will be interested to see how the prepared meals succeed/fail. Not a concept that did well here when first introduced by Tesco 10 years ago when they opened their Fresh and Easy neighborhood supermarkets. I also do not think American shoppers were ready to try so much Tesco own brand food items. As the months went by they were replaced with American name brand foods. The checkouts were contactless where you scanned your own items and then packed yourself. It confused the heck out of people and I know people avoided going in due to that “extra work”. They wanted someone to pack their groceries. We loved it!! In and out in a flash. But here we are now 10 years later with self check outs available in all supermarkets, and also in large stores like Target, and with Covid restrictions where I live if you bring in your own bags you have to pack yourself. If you want the checker to pack then pay 10 cents per paper bag. Tesco was ahead of the game.

    Thanks for taking us along Hannah, at least now if/when I go in one I won't look like a complete idiot. I didn't think the prices were too bad to be honest, the ready meals and snack foods looked quite good quality and they might be charging a few pence more for being in central London.

    As others have stated here, I'm concerned about how all of this innovation will do away with jobs as well as other risks like the cyber security aspect. Amazon has become so big because of their convenience and business innovation...like them or not, you have to hand it to them, the empire they have built is pretty amazing

    • @HannahRicketts

      I think most people don't realise how many more jobs are generated in other ways. Amazon were a small business not too long ago

    • @Risk11

      What you don’t understand there will still be jobs just not in the same sense they will still need people to restock the shelves they will still need people around to help people around the store they will still need people to clean the floors plus they will still need people for delivery centers

    • @Risk11

    You could always add up your totals as you go round, after all to know exactly what you are spending in any store that's what you have to do? I shop in Sainsbury's on their app so I know exactly what I've spent before reaching the checkout, no loading my shopping onto a conveyor belt then back into bags, just scan, bag, scan my phone at the till, pay and go, it's great

    Decades ago we worked on RFID (Radio Frequency Identification). The idea was to identify all products at the till without taking them out of the trolley, by sticking a tag on every product. I assume that never worked. Apparently Amazon uses cameras, and scales on the shelves, which explains why the shelves are partitioned. So they know the location of your phone, the camera identifies the partition, and the scale the number of units you take.

      It's just a resource shift... if you think about how many more delivery/ picking/ IT jobs there are now... it's like machines in manufacturing 100 years ago..

    • @gilgamesh3328
      @gilgamesh3328 3 года назад

      @@HannahRicketts The thing is though, the last time we had this sort of resource shift, it didn't just bring an Industrial Revolution, it brought social, cultural and political ones along with it. I agree with you, we're definitely on the cusp of a new economic era but I don't think the upheaval will be any less profound this time around.

    I think it took so long because it was new and couldn’t keep up with the amount of people in the store, plus they probably took the tablets away because they’d have to constantly clean them. And for those worrying about feeling like you’re shop lifting, you scan your code on the way in so they know you’re in there lol and there’s cameras everywhere haha.

    I'm very torn on the idea- its handy for on the go and good for introverts like myself 😂. It does does however take away from small businesses and older generation like to go shopping as it's something for them to do and talk to people so they are less lonely (and of course not just older people- just an example). The world is becoming more of a lonely place as it is. It's a hard one but the world is changing and I suppose we have to get used to it 🤔🤷‍♀️ all in all, I think Amazon have gotten money hungry due to their rising success during the pandemic and seems like they didnt need to make a store as we already have supermarkets and shops available.
