- Amazon is always up to some pretty interesting things here in Seattle, the latest being there cashierless grocery store in Capitol Hill. My video on the original Amazon Go store: • Inside the NEW Amazon ...
The cashierless concept of Amazon Go was introduced in 2018, now they are tripling it in size to create a one stop shop to get all of your groceries. I went to check it out, and see if it really works- I can't believe they actually charged me for something I didn't take! Sorry Amazon for breaking your store.

How it works:
Amazon Go has several hundred (maybe more? not sure?) sensors on the ceiling tracking your every move. If you pick up an item, it's in your virtual cart. If you put it back- you won't be charged (or shouldn't be). After getting all of your groceries, you simple walk out of the store!

Life in the Crow's Nest I mean that would just be the equivalent of people shoplifting at traditional grocery stores. Yeah, it’s easy enough to do, but a majority of people are going to be decent enough not to, and the business kind of plans for a certain degree of product loss through damage and theft. I would also assume they have a way to cross-reference before issuing a requested refund if needed.
@@lifeinthecrowsnest4953 Maybe for more expensive items they look into it further? Or if you have a track record for always saying your overcharged, they probably look into it?
@@lifeinthecrowsnest4953 I would think that the employees can go back and review the data, which I am thinking is a combination of image recognition from video footage, and other sensors. However, probably Amazon most likely errs on the side of "customer service" and probably gives the customer the benefit of the doubt unless some pattern that emerges that suggests suspicious behavior.
Can you jump the gates or are there security guards there?
I think it's worth going there for the produce. Since they can't weight the item, you can grab the biggest sweet potato for instance and only pay like 50 cents for it.
Since it's price per item, don't think you they would have the items around the same size and weight? lol

@@JackieShiu but surely everyone uses this mentality and so sometimes you'll end up with only the smaller than average stuff left if you visit late in the day.

Daksh Bhatnagar we get 10% off of each purchase up to $100/annually. So you wouldn’t get the entire $100 off of a single purchase unless the purchase was $1,000+.

They have cameras. Each request for return and they'll track that specific item movement using a timestamp. They will know.

I was so shocked haha. I picked up and put back tons of items in the store, and it was really accurate with not charging me, but for some reason the whisks have issues!

I go to the store about once a week and the last time I was there I said hi to the greeter, waved to the employee at self checkout, waved bye to the greeter when I left the store and then a kid and his mom were walking to the store and the kid waved at me so I waved back. I figure that I'm covered for about a month.

Cage free doesn’t mean “happy life”. A lot of chickens are “cage free” but cannot even move because the factory is so incredibly full of chickens. This way companies can make as much money as possible and pretend to be ethical.

I always have a love/ hate feeling with ideas like these where its obvious that lower income/ skilled workers and their families will be mostly effected with operations like this popping up.. 😕 We've yet to study how stuff like this will effect the economy in the next 5-10 years

Skilled? Lol being a cashier isn't that hard. I was one and the hardest thing was dealing with rude unnecessary racist customers. And I find that many cashiers fuck up a bunch so that I constantly have to check my receipt. Even had people mess up a second and third time when I brought the receipt back to the store. I wish more cashierless stores would pop up.

i think its handy to have some self service areas in some shops like lidl etc but when we get through this pandemic, i would hope people will really appreciate all the interactions with other people. i'm an introvert but even i miss talking to people in the shops etc in my daily life :)

I think it’s really scary that they observe you the whole time. Save the information what you buy and how you move in the store etc. and probably show you advertising based on that. I don’t like that whole concept at all

it`s good to have people`s interaction, I love this concept but a lot of us are going to struggle!
Food is treated much differently in our interdependent society. Many states do not tax food. Phones and apps and credit being required to purchase food is not acceptable for all. Thus communities may decide to tax food at these types of establishments or outlaw them completely.

With small businesses that join their ‘fulfilled by amazon’ delivery service, they essentially have the rights to steal your idea, poach your manufacturer and start making copies to sell more cheaply - it appears on Amazon Basics. The algorithm hides the original private seller and pronto, they’re out of business. They are a disgusting amoral monopoly. Any deal w/ Amazon is a deal to screw yourself over, Whole Foods should never have signed.

I tried to make this an unbiased opinion on the store- based on if its fun to go to or not. In this video I am not talking about subjects such amazon being a monopoly, the effects cashierless stores could have on unemployment, etc. Do I think the idea of cashierless stores is a good idea for the entire world? Eh, probably not. Is it fun to check out this experimental store? Yes, totally and I wanted to bring you along for that!

People here in Seattle seemed excited to check it out, so I'm sharing that! Honestly, some of the points of collecting data that some people have a huge issue with- I personally don't really mind. I don't care what a company thinks of my shopping habits, I don't care if I get more targeted ads. So maybe the thing is I just simply don't agree with some people making it a huge, huge deal... which is why I made the video, it doesn't impose on my own beliefs.. I don't really have a personal problem with amazon. I like the concept of these Amazon Go stores. It takes away the anxiety of having to rush to stick your cash/card into your wallet/pocket so the next person can checkout at cash register. I also like that there's ONLY groceries and not merch/other stuff bc i always walk into a store to buy ONE thing and walk out with 10 😂

In reality this is a trend that has been going on for more than 10 years. Home Depot, Walmart and many other retailers have had self-check out for that long. In this version you are doing the physical scanning of items, in essence, eliminating the need for check out personel. One employee can oversee 10 to 12 self check out stations.

They just opened an Amazon Fresh here in Woodland Hills(I live in California )where I live,it’s bigger than the Amazon Go stores, you don’t need an Amazon account to get in (unless you want to use the Dash Carts), that scan your items as you place them in your cart, they have sensors and cameras on the Dash Cart, your receipt is emailed to you and for people who are worried about people not having jobs, no worries they do have your regular carts and regular checkout people so if you want to go old school you can.
Couldn't you just request a refund for everything you grabbed? I personally wouldn't do that, but I feel like a lot of people would take advantage of the system. That may be an issue for Amazon.

They could integrate amenities such as a service butcher and deli. After filling your order, they process it in a computer, then print out a QR code that you scan with the app and it gets added to your receipt.

Not sure how its a job killer. Opening one of these in every major city will generate hundreds of jobs. Its not some magical store that runs,cleans and stocks itself lol Not to mention the customer service associates they have to assign to these stores. They need people for Maintenance too. Then when they have enough locations they will probably run their Prime grocery delivery service out of their stores so there’s more jobs. Get with the times. Quick and efficient is the future.

There's literally workers in this store. The fact that they don't have to scan things is another thing. I'm sure they are even enjoying themselves more without that kind of job. There's also janitors, stockers and obviously the people on customer service
Working in restaurant, I can tell you that fresh meets are what can brake or make the food cost. The risk of loss is way higher, which I believe explains why they vacuum seal it and price it above average to cover the risk of loss. Especially if it's a "convenience" type store. They don't expect you to rely on them for your fresh meets.
So this must track the individuals around the store from the point they are let in by scanning the app. Then pick up when you take a product from the shelf or put it back on. All via optical cameras in the ceiling and walls . Also all the shelves have scales that know the exact weight of products so know exactly how many you removed or returned of the product. It’s strange then that it couldn’t tell she returned the whisk. Maybe the scales weren’t working properly

What happensif an old guy like me goes to the store, jumps the gate, picks up what he wants and just leaves? I don't have neither an Amazon account nor Amazon Prime and my phone is an old Nokia 3510 from 2005. No kidding, I do. It still works fine and the battery lasts a week. How does the shop know who to charge and how? And if it can't, what actions will be taken?
There's also like 5 Amazon Go locations in Chicago as well. I've been to one before. It's awesome.

Interesting concept but prefer online grocery shopping here in the UK, all packed and picked for you and then delivered to your house, it basically frees up an entire day a week that you would normally dedicate to grocery shopping
