Blow Off Valve Sounds Galore - Turbo Toyota POV - Project Underdog MR2 Mk1 first spirited drive

- Engine is still not nearly broken in and I'm still somewhat afraid the car will fall apart or catch fire. Never did the alignment either but turns out there's no need, goes straight and feels good in the corners. I guess eyeballing it worked for now :)
I'm more comfortable with the power now, the drama effect wore off somewhat. I'm estimating that with the 0.5 bar (7-8 psi) it shouldn't make more than 160-170hp (although it somehow feels more than that when the road opens up and there's space to push it). Whatever it is this power level seems to suit it ideally I think, really controllable and confidence inspiring but still packs a very nice punch. The Quaife ATB torsen limited slip differential is worth its weight in gold, a massive transformation in cornering capacity and feel.

I think it's safe to say the world needs more project underdog content
Exactly
Yeah, like a Hyundai Getz with a mid-mounted Viper V10 or something. Things can get insane if you got the knowledge, patience and guts to do so.
Thank you for posting this. Just raw driving footage, no music, or dumb cuts, or stupid 360cams and racing game camera angle view points, just raw high quality video and audio. We need more of this on RUclips.
Hey!!! 360 cams can make for beautifully cinematic shots! On my motorcycle, I love having it because i can have it follow the horizon and you( and I ) get to better realize the lean angle on some of the turns! :D its so much fun!
Yeah on motorbikes it's is very cool. For cars a prefer the POV view where you can see the steering wheel. Really makes you feel like you are driving. I wish more people would stick to that than the 360 cams and chase camera angles ect.
@@chromaticwolf7433 finally someone who gets it. It works on a motorcycle because you don't have to fisheye the field of view to see the whole vehicle. On a car it just makes it look weird because one is forced to use a massive FoV.
I mean I wouldn't prefer it on a motorcycle either, I'd rather have a chin cam that a chase cam because I like to see where the rider looks also.
Preach brother
@@zzyzx0069 lol, I’m just constantly scanning the roads. You might get motion sickness watching through the chin cam (I also don’t have a chin cam ;0 gotta save up for it haha).
But like all the pretty sights, I don’t get a chance to look at them cuz I’m too focused on the roads :(
The exhaust is sounding REALLY damn good, man. Congratulations for your build!
I'll never tire of that sound. Brilliant job!
It sounds so good! And congrats on the channel growth! You’ve come a long way and I’m excited to see what you do in the future.
Congratulations with finishing this project!
You must be very happy to finally being able to drive the car with the upgraded engine like that.
It sounds awesome! 👌
I don't know if you care about such comments but I'm quite depressed now, struggling with many health issues and your videos are one of very few things that let me relax and forget about everything
My dad had an MR2 back in the day. I'm sure yours will be the best running one on the planet.
Totally excellent. I’ve been there. Recently finished project car, open road, turbo blow off sounds….Enjoy. You deserve it!!!
The sound of perfect tuning.. Great video!
Feels like it is running super smooth and strong! Dyno?
You have to practice those downshifts 🙂
Now that sounds sweet! 🤩 This brings back nice memories when a Friend of mine bought a Toyota Supra Mk III for a ridiculously cheap price as the poor thing, having become unpopular by the early 2000s, was in disrepair and misery. First there was a lot of work put into reanimation, then he power increase started. I will never forget the face of the BMW 6er series driver as the Supra just flew away from his modern sports BMW as he was going full acceleration. 🤗 The blow-off hiss is loooovely!
Vrh! Zvuk je kao od K20 :) svaka ti cast zemljak!
Turbo sounds are always welcome. You can make them even cooler by having a proper dose pipe on your compressor intake, and by installing a flow control valve in between the BOV and controller/vacuum line to slightly delay the opening, that way you get a tiny bit of flutter AND the pshew sound. If you want, I can post links to vids of both items/examples of testing and tuning them.
Im gonna loop this and sleep to its sweet sweet glorious music.....😌
The vibe in the studio is immaculate.
Got the BOV sorted out I see…
Great work
Cool project indeed!
Gopro bane killing it in this video
Saugeiles Fahrzeug! Man sieht wie es richtig Spaß macht. 🎉❤
It's so good to finally see you drive this thing! Have fun!
Looks like it’s a blast to drive!!! Also, I just saw a video about sleeve valve engines and thought it was fascinating. Just an idea for a future video 👀
Love the fact you introduce to great engineering technology, but you also apply it to your own project as well. 👍😁👍
beautiful car
You live in a beautiful part of this world. I'm glad you have open roads to enjoy Such a nice build on.
My sentiments exactly!
What a nicest project! Love your videos about that MR2👏 Sound is absolutely amazing
I am glad for you)
That BOV sounds so good - I now know what's missing from my i20N...😉
Congrats on the build as well as the RUclips channel - keep these vids coming!!!👌
nice to have a video without commentary
not that I dislike your commentary but its just that then you can have full on joy driving without having to concentrate on being informative or entertaining.
just pure ol' driving fun
4:15 brapp! Thx for a simply ride along
After watching your channel for almost a year, ive learned enough to take on my own sorta "project underdog" and bought a Toyota mk.3 Supra with the 7m-ge and do a head swap to a gte head and fit an intercooler and turbo. Its an arizona car thats garage kept w 127k mi. All the body and mechanicals are clean so its a great cantidate for it.
Thanks so much for your efforts.
Its inspiring and empowering.
Wherever you live is beautiful. Looks like Latvia if I had to hazard a guess based on your surroundings and accent.
Where I live in rural Georgia (US) you can't drive really fast on the backroads like this because there are always deer, wild hogs and turkeys crossing the road. Lol
I think people forget that these older but really light and well balanced cars don't need a lot of power, honestly a lot of power feels kind of scary in these cars lol.
Love the sound. Well done. Enjoy the drive.
Lots of hard work, well done 👍
So that's what all that work was for (shit eating grins). Love the channel. Love that you are seeing the fruits of your labor.
Sweet music to my ears
She sounds lovely 🌹
Nice to see the AW out again.
Sounds good. Good work, well done!
Amazing sound!
I am envious of your climate. (that you haven't had to do any bodywork since I was watching the original videos of you fixing up the MR2 and making the home-made polyurethane mounts).
And you know... substantially fewer fires there.
Been a subscriber here, for years. Glad you enjoy your project car. I will be getting my e36 500hp ,turbo car soon. Get your car properly aligned though, don't take any chances. Have fun!Take care.
very good job!! nice to see you have end your build!
Awesome. Happy for you!
Ohh nice! Thanks for the info, watching this while Tig welding rear arms for a sleeper 4 door mk1 focus at 5 am lol. Nice work!
Looking forward to see dyno results. Nice video.
cant wait to see full power on road after break in
Glorious!
Simply awesome.
It is so good to hear it
"...still somewhat afraid the car will fall apart or catch fire..." 🤣
I know how you feel.

"Questi giorni quando vieni, il belle sole... la la la la laaa laaa laaa laaa la la la la" 🌹// Amazing drive bro
That's wonderful! 😊
The new Need for speed Underground looks great! XD
Sounds sweet mate. Just goes to show you don't need big power tool have fun. 170hp in something so light is plenty, although I'm sure you'll up the power after a few months when you're used to it.
sounds great!
Tanta roba!
Beautiful country where you live. No wonder you like to drive so much.
Lep put. Lepa voznja!
We want to see more of this car!
This look like a fun drive! Good for You! And nice car ;-) cheers!

Sounds good to me! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
You should make a video of the vr6 engine.
Smiles per mile
I miss my cars that had that sound !👍🏽
Lovely countryside
I see a grudge match in the making❤
Bravo! Predivan zvuk
Team up with 'I do cars' You'd make a beautiful team.
That looks and sounds so good I'm gonna have to go hit some twisties myself. I'll be back in 2hrs.
Hello. Great video, and great channel! Thanks for your work! Do you have a video on bore/stroke relation and how it affects the performance?
Ok
I’m charging its battery and about to dust of my mr2
Thanks for the inspiration
If you were able to get 280-330 hp i would be thrilled to see it. I have a ‘01 ES300.. those are my plans for it. N/A no boost preferably
Oh, that's nice 👍
Nice !
you should do a video on liquid position engines, there rotary design that is like half the wieght
Woooow haha so much fun and the sound is sooooo sexy haha. If you need a next project, I'm planning to do a complete engine rebuild from a 305 tpi and with a turbo, on a Camaro 85 project for next year. Kind regards from the Netherlands.
godamn,
you've sold me on carbs in the past, and now you've sold on turbo
Great to see the new setup is finally running really nicely, It must be fun!
Ignore any clamour for winding on more power,
As you've already pointed out, power is for top speed (and bragging), torque is for acceleration and FUN!
I've never found the MK1 to be about top speed, but more about nippy, zippy fun-ness and scalpel-sharp overtakes (back in the day!).
The power may only be 25% up on stock, but I guess torque will have jumped by even more and arrive much lower down the revs. With its low weight, low drag, small frontal area and an extra sling-full of easily accessible torque, I reckon you'll have all the engine you want or need with barely 10 BHP more.
I'd more concentrate on checking and tweaking the alignment for evenness (for tyre wear and for the record), steering feel and communicativeness.
Enjoy it anyway!
And all best and thanks!
👍👍👍
What beautiful music! Brrrraap phssssss!!
Noice noise! 😁
Can you do a video of the vr6 engine?
Addictive. I need a wind filter for my Mike so you can hear mine.😊
Thought i recognised the car interior, even though its LHD. I used to have one a good few years back and it was great fun. Totally standard it went well, and i had to really work at it to lose traction!
Outstanding! Also, you figured out the blow off valve problem... What did you end up doing to get it to work?
Haaamaaaagaaaaawwd it sounds sooo goooooooood
Nice Road!🥰
Car responds well! 👍
How long does it take for the smile on your face to wear off after a drive like that? 😁
Well done.
Thanks for sharing! ✌️
Mike in San Diego. 🌞🎸🚀🖖
at what rpms are you having full boost??
Not sure what the light display is but it looks cool. Is that boost?
i love it so much!!!! do you know the power yet?
I would go with carburators but this is a sick setup
Is this the same maxspeedingrods turbo ? Any issues ?
Man, D4A has some driving skills, I would have probably trashed the car 20 seconds into the route
Can't wait until you show is the car on a dyno
OMG! ❤
Drinking game for blow off valve sounds...
I was planning on making a 5sge and keeping it na but this makes me want to turbo so bad.
D4A does a smoking tire, “just the noise.”
Can you do a video on 2 and 3-cylinder engines?
I did already
Remember, keep the shiny side up.
I was wondering how there's 160 horsepower with 7-8 lb boost when I'm only getting about that from my AW11SC with 11-12 lb... then I remembered what a drag it is having to turn a supercharger...
