      No, what you pay for is a professional to give you direct 1 on 1 input on your shooting stance as it relates to you based on your comfort level and experience. This is good information, but I feel like only people who are already experienced shooters can take any value away from this. Shooting, stance and grip entirely depends on the shooter, their experience and what feels comfortable to them. What the poet thinks is the best stance for him, or in general, might not be the best for you. Every person's body is different, and speaking from experience, when the rounds start flying, A) you don't think about stance/grip and B) Even if you are, rarely are you able to put yourself in the "best" stance/position for numerous other reasons. Instinct/Point training and practice are still 100x more useful than standing in front of a full length mirror for 20 minutes practicing your "tacti-cool" stance. Id rather practice AA hits while double tapping from the hip with tenth splits.

    • @Deuces0810
      @Deuces0810 4 года назад +1

      @@TheeGlocktopus I agree with a lot of what you say but when he preaches about his stance it is really just an athletic stance. Anyone who has ever really watched or played sports can do one. A beginner can see his pretty basic athletic stance and try it for themselves and get a comfortable stance with the basic tips he gave them. But yeah those two hour sessions don’t compare to this one video.

    • @zackdoc
      @zackdoc 4 года назад +5

      @@TheeGlocktopus I agree, nothing substitutes for real live training with feedback and Q & A with an experienced instructor (or veteran). But his information IS excellent & very useful even for a long-time shooter & veteran like myself.

    War is a horrible. I was born during Vietnam, grew up in the 70's and 80's, Grenada would have been my "War" so I have little personal perspective on the subject, only what I've read, watched and studied. Veterans I see today, although 20 years or more my junior, impress me with their knowledge, strength, commitment and awareness. Most do not seem like the damaged fathers and uncles I knew growing up who had fought in WWII, Korea or Vietnam: those lonely, distant men, many who seemed to have never come home. It is encouraging to see a man using his strength and knowledge to train others. Thank you to anyone who has served, and for making this informative video. I have several takeaways I'll attempt at the range today in my casual comfort, thankful that I never had to spend 6+ hours clearing a city. Peace.

      A very well written comment Daniel, and all too true. The increasing awareness of mental stress and near obliteration of the mind in warfare, along with the changes from a very mass scale, conventional style of warfare to today's I think has some possitive affects, but there are still many who see more than the mind ever should. Not sure where the "AR-15" response came from. Love the rifle, but that response had nothing to do with your comment, and everything to do with John's comment about clearing for hours, and the helpful, instructive information on the video, that was yes about handling an ar-15 rifle, but not the subject of the comment.

      So….ill just throw this out there. My good friend’s son graduated top 10th percentile of his class at the USMC sniper school. I asked him about multiple shooting techniques across this specific platform. He said straight up….the best stance and technique is where you feel the most comfortable with. He said….find that and train extensively…..become proficient and remain as comfortable with your muscle memory as possible. Nothing more…nothing less. It’s that simple! His words.

    Thanks for this…. I love watching these before I get out and hit the range… I know most gun guys are too “shy” to admit it, but I think a video of showing a newbie, like myself, how to shoot properly and train, documenting how well the training and proper handling; from stance and grip, to cleaning and maintaining, turns an amateur, into a well trained amateur… I know this is an older post, but if you happen to see it, most guys I talk to would love to see this done as well as be more willing to pay into a proper training platform. Just a thought, I don’t see many people willing to admit it, but I bet my paycheck people will be watching it, and hopefully, motivated to get good training.

    While this is video is 16 months old I found it to be very helpful. I hadn't realized so many things about the stance to get a good sight picture so that the gun is stable, on target and returns to target after firing. I was doing it all wrong, thinking old school rifle stance and can see how impractical that is for an AR. I've determined that before I go shooting again I have to practice 10,000x repetitions "presenting" in the proper form so that the gun comes up in the right place automatically without thinking so it is ready for immediate target acquisition. At this moment the stance and position of the rifle feels foreign, but after a few dozen times of just lifting the rifle into position and getting the sight in center view I'm starting to feel when I'm doing it wrong. I plan on hitting the range some time this week and will then incorporate firing into my new routine. Thanks for the video. Again, most helpful.

    I just put a Miculek brake on my AR. My rifle is actually dipping down now, because I used to have to fight the muzzle rise, before installing the awesome brake. Thanks to you, I now know how to correct this mistake in technique. I had obviously got into a habit of being too tight on the gun. Your material is awesome, brother. Keep it coming.

    I saw this video pop up on my list a few days ago..... but i resisted watching it as i am an old range official, and i did 3 combat tours. my job entailed making sure Marines could put rounds into center mass at 200,300 and 500 yards. I did this 48 weeks out of the year.
    very few people in this world have pulled the buttstock of a M-16A2 into their shoulder more than i have,, very few people have sent more rounds down range OR at actual enemy targets than i have. your instruction was pretty good, but ,i dont know if training has changed since I was in.. but i always was taught, AND taught my Marines that the off hand elbow was to be tucked in and braced against the rib cage. forming a tight stable platform for the rifle. Once again, i am NOT criticizing your methods... i am just stating the one obvious difference i saw in your and my stance.

    very good to know. as a first time AR daddy, ive been told a lot of various contradicting 'must do's and never a good 'why'.... just the 'cause its the best'. having a relaxed but controlled hold and stance so you can maintain for longer periods, keep control, fall back into the correct position after each shot without too much fighting... that seems most important. i will have to start practicing to find and keep that method.

    John, these technique videos are very helpful and a solid foundation is needed for everyone. With that, one thing I can’t find much on, but believe is foundational, is safety selector manipulation. If you could even touch on, in one of your videos, the timing of switching from fire to safe and vice versa it would make training safer for everyone. Since a lot of pistols don’t have that feature it seems to be a habit that takes time to form with a rifle. Thank you for your service and contribution to training safe effective gun owners. God bless.

    Great video, I learned a few new techniques for my next range day. I fire a rifle right-handed but am left eye dominant. If I am using a red dot or holographic sight and keep both eyes open, I see two images, upper left and lower right with the actual point of impact somewhere in the middle. Too bad because both eyes open not only enhances your field of view but helps keep the muscles (the orbicularis oculi) of your firing side eye from getting tired.

    So the diagnostic bit at the end was probably the most helpful bit of this video for me. My stance is generally pretty okay, but I don’t always get enough lean in to flatten things out properly, and when I was shooting last I noticed that the dot was moving a ton and then coming back in, which was slowing down my cadence of fire. Something to focus on, for sure.
