just found this old clip: I b-surfed with these guys in the late 70's-80's when Mark was lifeguarding Pipe/Ehukai and we all had a blast. Was one of only a few wahines. Miss the gudoldayz;) Still b-surfin at 70:) Aloha from Alea (Makapu'u(nut)Meg;)
Stewart is(perhaps WAS) certainly the one who progressed body boarding the most... But Dan Malloy should spend more time at the Wedge in the summer - before extending that claim to bodysurfing. Terry Wade, 'Cashbox' Kennedy and Mel Thoman in the older generation have all pushed the limits farther. In the younger generation... I'll say that Van Mellum is very impressive. When the surf gets bigger Mike tends to default to the board. I've bodysurfed Mavericks successfully on several occasions. When I see Stewart do - THAT ... I'll hand him the crown.
@@gutsurfer you'd be wrong about that. When Wade, Kennedy and Mel were at their prime - Stewart was at the Wedge, plenty - and never showed that level of performance, without his board. Van Mellum and Matt Larson are still doing it - I don't see Stewart chasing them down.
