Body surfing, the purest form. I miss Hawaii
Man this has changed so much from the style we practiced in FL with arms behind your back, hunching shoulders to make a hollow air pocket and gliding on shoulders on the air pocket. Looks like have to try a new style after 60 years

Point Panics ,best right Honolulu has to offer when the Southside is happening.went there quite a bit back in the late 70's to early 80's.No boards with skegs were allowed,try tell that to a Hawaiian that wants to surf a few perfect rights before work.The boys right up the hill,were the regulators and in charge of crowd control along with tax man, patrolling around the murky waters of Kewalo basin ,especially after the Aku boats came in.Good memories,mahalo nui for the video,Aloha

Not an easy sport to master, and most bodysurfed waves result in a beat down in the end.
That said I’m still out there trying to takeoff early and bow out before I
get trounced off of the bottom and break my neck 😊

Best bodysurfers ever have been the ones that have honed their craft at the Wedge. Terry Wade is the best there has ever been.
"Man vs. Wave," so misses the point. Bodysurfers merge with the wave. We gratefully become one with the wave.

only b.k.h. can. iykyk, if not then ya bettah ask somebody! it surely wasnt coordinated either. Death? nah. i was out a p.p. when cuttingspam. i mean cunningham got head butt real good from another bodysurfer. the bodysurfer kicked out/bailed and i guess mark didn't duck dive deep enough and bam! his friends helped him out of the water and took him to the hospital. was kinda glad cuz it lightened up the crowd. though it did chum up the water a lil bit

Cunningham at Panics stands out because he's about the only guy not doing tricked-out "performance" bodysurfing ... which is the Panics culture. Mark never was into tricks, which is why tricksters like Wilcox and Stewart place higher in contests at Panics and Pipe.
A lot of that footage did look like Panics to me, too.
