He would loose control as his hands sweat in the gloves making him more likely to drop the glass tubes, shattering everywhere. The flames do get hot but it is controlled and you can see his hands are only near the flame for at most 30 seconds. More then likely if he were to be wearing thin latex style gloves near open flames, the gloves would melt onto his skin causing more damage then needed. Just because certain PPE is exists, doesn't mean it applies for all situations.
This guy insists on wearing eye protection but he wont wear gloves around a blue flame or while breaking glass? I'm thinking he probably lost all his hair in a laboratory accident.
Have you matured and wisened up now, enough to know better than to think the same things you used to think 9 years ago? I have broken off those delicate little pulled tubes with my bare fingers hundreds of times, and not once have I had an accident. And the flame isn't at all that hot at its sides, it is hot only above.
Thank you
Anyone have good tips on producing extra fine tips every time while doing this using the hand method as opposed to an expensive puller?

what are TLC's?
Thin Layer Chromatography
Thanks!
does anyone know why glass capilary tubes are a good representation of the xylem
This Khan acedamy video explains it very well. It is due to the chemical composition of the glass: ruclips.net/video/eQXGpturk3A/видео.html
they are not actually capillary alone cant tranport water more than 10 meter high while trees are more than 100 meters toooo
Thin Layer Chromatography
Which type of this glass ? Is it Borosilicate ?

I think you're just mad about the hair joke. I was just kidding, Lex Luthor. Let it go.
