Exploring an Abandoned Mall with Over 90 Stores & a Movie Theater! - Richmond Town Square Mall

- Опубликовано: 24 фев 2024
- In this episode we are exploring the abandoned Richmond Town Square Mall, once located in Richmond Heights, Ohio. This 57 year old mall has been permanently closed since 2021 after the COVID-19 pandemic dealt the final blow to the already struggling former retail giant that had seen both of its major retail anchors Macy's and Sears close in 2015 and 2017. Demolition was originally set to begin March 2023, but the process was delayed until September 2023. After demolition is completed construction can begin on what has been named the Belle Oaks Marketplace, a $300 million dollar project. The mixed-use project will include about 800 luxury apartments, retail, amenities and more, including a nearly 160,000-square-foot Meijer store. Now let’s get started and go back in time as we explore the Richmond Town Square Mall before it was gone forever.
We hope you all enjoy this exploration and please be sure to give us a like and subscribe if you haven't already! We really appreciate your support! We also appreciate patience with the advertisements as part of the RUclips Partner Program. The more we make, the farther we can go explore and show you all these amazing abandoned places!!

Brings back great memories hanging out at the mall on the weekends with my friends back in the 80's! It was a wonderful and magical time.
That’s awesome!
I know this is weird, but your videos have become my pre-work ritual. That’s a compliment. I really enjoy your videos.
Thank you so much!!
I love malls and wish they never went under ever cause when they do it’s so sad 😢
That Kronos device is not for tickets but actually a time clock where employees can punch in and out. You guys have one of my favorite Urbex channels. Something I've always wanted to get into more. Great mall video. I don't understand the appeal of open air malls that have replaced traditional shopping malls. Freeze in the winter, roast in the summer. I guess people just feel less confined if they're outside.
Thank you!
I hear lots of employees use Kronos because it works remotely on your phone at the worksite with gps to tell you your at work to clock in and out and the black time clock if your device is dead to clock in and out.
Awesome video urbax vibes. One thing I admire about the places you explore, is that you guys make your videos lengthy on the exploration and it actually gives me enough time to actually admire such a stunning mall and the fact that everything I saw in this one hour and eight minute long video has already been demolished 😢! I also loved that two hour long masterpiece you guys did on century 3 mall. 🎉
Thank you so much! We try our best to include every inch of the places we visit, and make sure the viewers see everything we see! 😁
Sadly demolition on the Century 3 has begun. A video I seen about a couple weeks ago showed they started with the parking structure. At Rivertown Crossings in Grandville, Michigan, they have one that needs to be demolished and rebuilt. Very wavy due to design with large chunk of last year and even this year, the lower part was closed off at it kept falling apart. When people drive on the upper part, it moves quite a bit. Very poor design. The mall itself is quite busy yet though two anchors are empty, one being a former Sears (Spirit Halloween used part last Halloween season) and the other is a former Yonkers, empty since BonTon went belly up. The mall is a two story with a Old Navy that took both stories but now is first floor only. Closing off their escalator and elevator.
The checkmarks are to let the demolition crew and/or the current owner that the place is vacant same as if you see an X on the building confirming utilities are cut too. also (fire department) There is a mall up in Dewitt NY that was closed and boarded up, I'm sure people have gone in already. Auctions usually get back as much money as the owner/owners to recoup lost money, sometimes auctions have people who will damage to get items out of the places they are in, the breakers are the only way to turn on/off store power
Think how many people lost there jobs, malls employ hundreds of people and it hurts the economy in the entire area.
Sure does!!
And malls are closing down because on online retailers like Amazon so sad 😭
@@fluttershyamy Not To Me
I’m going to slow down on online shopping even though I don’t have much time and malls are not too close to me like before!! I hate to see our malls disappear
Four by me are all gone. One was North Kent Mall in Plainfield Township, Michigan, anchored by a Kmart (now interior storage) and a Montgomery Wards, now a Dicks Sports. The mall itself is now a Lowes. Another, in Grand Rapids, MI, was a former Kroger, it became a very short lived mall, never had many stores, now offices. The other was the former Eastbrook Mall, also in Grand Rapids, now known as Shops At CenterPoint. Part of the interior is still left, the rest is all outside entrances from the front. On the back you can see where one of the entrances once was.
I honestly really like going to malls and I hate seeing how a lot of them aren't as packed as they used to be, including my own local mall. I hope that someday things can go back to the way they used to be. I get that online shopping can be helpful but at the same time it's bad since it prevents people from going out instead of just staying at home (at least during COVID it was especially useful) and from what I've seen, it's taken a lot of peoples' jobs too.
And a side note, it's sad to see all of these birds (and sometimes other animals) that get stuck inside of abandoned buildings and end up dying since they can't find the way out- poor birdies 😭
I know JCPenny was struggling , I believe Walmart and Online shopping 🛒 is taking over the Malls. However, some Malls are still open. This one is really neat, it amazes me what vandals and scrappers do to abandoned Malls. Someone spends lots of money 💰 on building it, and it all goes to waste 😢.
The mall is already torn down only left is the old sears building n jc penny
Another amazing video guys 😊 it’s too sad all the malls are going away it’s always a good memories when I was a teenage hang out at the mall with friends and family I can’t wait for the next video 😊
Agreed ❤
18:20 all the bangs you were hearing were from the planet fitness, they put new walls up to cover it from the mall, the planet fitness was opened and probably being worked on or used, and is still open till this day.
Awe I grew up going there a lot. My grandma and I always ate at Woolworth's.
Sadly malls are being phased out and the properties where lots of great memories were once held are now being utilized to build apartments and houses for the wealthy. Growing up in the 80s and 90s the mall was a staple and going to the movies at the mall and especially at the arcade that was just something that was a ritual. Sadly these younger generations will never know about how awesome it was to skip school and go to the mall. And the experience of meeting up with your friends and then seeing people from your school outside of school that you never seen and how difference of an interaction it was.
Ohio lost a lot of malls. Canton and Alliance.😢
Sad to see that all go abandoned!
I would have loved to have gone shopping in that huge mall because I love the old fashioned look of it as well maybe they could open it back up if they put the price of the shops rent really low in price❤
if they set rent low then maintenance of the huge building would be too expensive
Already demolished according to another post. Only the former Sears and JC Penny is left.
If it's all gonna be rubble anyway. Harvest what you can. It's not stealing if it's abandoned. 💯
just crazy !!!!! LOVE your videos 😍
Thank you!!
Agreed
The store you were in is Bath & Body Works.
Really enjoyed this explore guys. Especially the cinema and security office. 🙂❤
Sad it’s all gone now was a really cool explore
Great video. Nice to see such enthusiasm from you guys😁
Thank you so much 😁
Awesome explore. Keep doing what you guys do.
Thank you!
Memories 😊
Enjoyed the video. Always like seeing movie theaters because I was a projectionist for over 30 years. 👍
Cool!! Thank you!
Is soo sad too see a abandoned mall 😿💔
So sad!! 😢 I love abandon places!!!
Agreed
Security Office was cool!! Very cool video!!
Place was so cool! Thank you!
The letters and the watch that were gold we're cool 😎
I hope eastvaiw mall never gets abandoned!! I love thet mall!! 😊
People should be encouraged to shop at the stores instead of online. Maybe the city should host events at the mall to get people to come out. Maybe invite a celebrity to the mall just like the mall at bay plaza in the Bronx, NY be doing too
Did you know that Madonna the singer still twerks at 65 years old. I’m sure people would come out to see Madonna twerk 😂😂😂
Yeah they had events at the Tacoma, Washington mall, but they don’t now, it’s so sad and the mall is slowly going empty for a small mall
Really glad I subscribed as soon as I found this channel.
I love your content! Especially since many of them are 1+ hour!
Where's the other movie theater explore you mentioned, though?
So glad your enjoying the explorations! Thank you! There are two other abandoned movie theater episodes we have on the channel but they are a bit older the videos
I remember when the first mall opened close enough for me to go to. That was a few years ago. It’s still open, but not the giant it once was! So so sad. This mall is gorgeous. So sad it’s being demolished. Oh the memories! Love your videos. Your camera work is very good. I like being able to see what you’re filming. You take your time. It’s like we’re right there with you.
Thank you so much for your support!!
Awesome video. Blessings from Maine
Awesome abandoned mall 👍
This was such a cool video
I love the behind the scenes shots great content
In the security office the device with the stylus type thing I believe is a sort of time clock to make sure the guards are making rounds they would carry it with them and scan various barcodes placed around the property I could be wrong but I have seen similar systems in the past
Thank you!
Hello. Have you ever heard of the Northridge Mall in Brown deer Wisconsin. It’s just north of Milwaukee. It opened in 1972 and closed in 2003. There’s a lot of history about this mall but you could look it up if you want. A company called Black Spurce ( I don’t know if I spelled that right) bought the mall back in 2008. Just 4 years earlier Menards bought the old sears and demolished the sears a year after the mall closed. The company basically did nothing of the mall and for the past 7-6 years, vandals have been going in there and setting fires, and just basically just trashing the place. It’s really sad how that area went from being popular to a completely waste land. They are going to demolish the mall starting this summer. I don’t know if you guys ever heard of that mall I just wanted to give you a little back story that’s all. Anyway, you have great day and stay safe. 🥰
Will definitely look into it! Thank you
I love movie theatres!! Would love to do what you’re doing in the mall and theatre!!
Mall were good in their day, online shopping took their places, Video Killed the Radio Star
I believe Exit was an escape room type experience. I hate seeing malls going extinct. There's one about 2hrs away from me that's alive and thriving though. Took my kids and they were amazed!
I used to go there with my wife. Charlie's made good sandwiches. Had Sears put new tires on my IROC-Z. Cool channel! ❤🧡💛
Wow cool! Thank you!
Great video I really enjoyed this hour long walk of this mall!!! 🤗❤️🤗❤️🤗❤️ I'm sad to see malls go too and I wish they would really stay and they could be used for cool things. And the Regal Cinema looks just like the one from seeing the videos on the Randall Park Mall in Ohio before they tore that mall down.
Thank you!
Shopping centres were somewhere to go. I used to love going to them to the different shops and seeing what they had in them. I’m not in the U.S. and there aren’t very many abandoned shopping centres where I am but there are a lot of empty shops within them and a lot of units have ben taken over by charity shops or sealed up so probably in the future we will likely lose a lot more of our shopping centres. Right at a time when it’s becoming a real hassle to buy online because everything has to be verified and post and packaging and delivery has got ridiculously expensive. I buy most things on Amazon and they keep trying to get me to sign up for Prime, which I’m not interested in 😂
❤❤this so sad how all these Malls are just going goingand then gone it's so sad ❤❤
That mall could be out of survival horror video game.
Its sad to see malls closed. Cool security office.
That was my mall. I wish I knew you guys were exploring it. Could have explained all the old stores and how it looked back in the 70's and all the changes. in its early days there was no food court..just a Loews theater 2 screens
That is so heartbreaking to see that this Mall is going to be torne down 😢😢
Already has been demolished as of a few weeks ago!! 😢
@@urbaxvibes 😭😭
So much building materials that could be repurposed.
In Lincoln we used to have a massive theatre called the Ritz and there was an ABC there used to be big cues people lined up with families for the films with my sister went with my dad we watched lady and the tramp, I will never forget❤😊😊😊
great vid
i watch yalls videos 247 on my tv and i’m just now commenting u guys are such big inspiration to me and my friend, the last video (accept for this one) i saw was when u guys were in that abandoned bank and y’all found that girl. she probably would have died if u guys weren’t there! ur hero’s!! love from nevaeh & gaby
We are so excited to hear that!! Glad you enjoy our videos!! And also thank you so much for your support! ❤️
@@urbaxvibes npp!!
I love your vids
And in the trainer or sneaker shop the large footprint on the what was really good 👍
the metal square with the slot is where the tickets come out of. Crown club cards are for regals membership program
That was a great video 👏 Loved the Regal section it did look authentic. The colour scheme was perfect and the flooring brilliant design. And then the security office 🤣 Surprised no blowup dolls in their or naked women calendar's on the walls 💋🤣
hahaha!! Thank you!
Kettle cleaner might be for cleaning the kettle that they put the popcorn into inside the popcorn machine
So sad to see it go 😢
Sad for sure !
What was up with those footprints?! p.s. I luv you guys since I saw your hospital video in az! I've been there :)
It looks like some big old game from the 70s 80s cooperation
Yeah Kettle cleaner is for the popcorn machine. Good guess. I work at a movie theater so I'm very familiar with that label. (red label now though lol)
What the hell is that?? Twisted!!
Plaza were once a thing, then malls were the "in" thing, now plazas are making a comeback. "What goes around comes around".
25:13 sounds like there’s geese loose in the mall
vary nine im a big fan of you too
Thank you!
Anybody know where the check marks are for on the outside of the stores ?
that thing around 54 minutes, with a fingerprint scanner is an employee clock device for payroll
I think the check marks mean it is ready to be retired, all cleaned of any products or fixtures that may have taken awhile to remove.
Just think of america being like this abandon mail. That's how we will end up. Sad. Great vidoe be safe all.
Thank you!
Highland Mall in Austin TX closed in 2015 and demolished now a acc I heard a Macy's in Lakeline Mall is closing soon I believe in the future there won't be any malls.
Gives me the creeps
oh a mall
Yep and I’m so so happy for this
Yep, and there are 25+ other videos on YT about this very mall. Abandoned malls and theaters all pretty much look the same and are old news.
@hgc159 if you have already seen over 25 videos of this location posted on here you have no business watching ours or commenting under it, especially if it’s going to be negative. 25+ videos of this place was a reach, their was about 5 videos in total and are all filmed differently, we literally show the whole mall while other videos on here are shorter, not including everything as we did. Every RUclipsr is also different so you’ll also have different personalities which the viewers tend to like. Next time you see a video your not interested in (especially one of ours) you should scroll past it and not make your way to the comments to be negative. You have a nice day now.
For some reason the rest of my comment didn’t go through, but here it is (better late than never). I enjoy watching UrbaxVides explore the malls and theaters even though they’re pretty much the same. I like the two of you and your style. UV was one of the first urban exploring channels I subscribed to because of that and is one of the only ones I watch anymore. Great job and I’m looking forward to more explores!
Well thank you so much, we appreciate that. I’m sorry if our comment came off wrong but we get a bunch of comments that are similar to yours under most of our videos and the majority of them are negative comments.
So the doors are not locked you can walk right in?
Mall sepi banget... Jadi tidak terpakai...
17:12 what was that buzzing noise and where was it coming from??????? it kept getting louder and louder as you got closer to that dark part of the mall, I heard it in other parts of this video too.
The arrows are for the stores they’re gonna demolish
The check marks mean it's been checked, all utilities are disconnected. Some may also have had natural gas lines going to them or places with coolers, making sure that is all cleared out before main demolition begins.
Ik its abit late but those bodily damage papers are for if u get hurt in the mall had to fill one out at my local mall after a display fell on me
Thanks Pamela yes done the thumbs up and been subbed for a while
I'm wondering how bad the abandoned chapel hill mall in akron looks like inside
find breakers and flip to on😂
Dude why the F are there so many abandoned malls??
Lots of reasons, check out SAL, Abandoned, Bankrupt, Company Man and NorthCogg as they all are well researched into what caused malls to shut down. Including too many popping up in an area, anchors that went belly up, rent being too high and more. Along with smaller retailers (leased store fronts, anchors owned their spots) are just a few reasons.
if theres power shoulda check vending.... get a drink or snack..😅
That food has to be moldy and disgusting
I wonder what was the very last movie played there
The theater looks like the one I. The Randall park mall in ohio.
In
Online purchases are killing jobs
Printed and embroidered T-shirts I think 🤔
Why was it shutdown? Was Covid19 the official cause? Or was it Sears and Macys closing? There are still some malls that are still open. Its sad 😭 this one closed. I wonder if employees went to the mall on the day that it closed 🔐 and told to leave , that the mall would be closing. I wonder 🤔 if they were relocated to another mall. Thanks, for the video, I love the explore. Britt
That would be part of it, though really just an excuse. It would be perfect is Salvatore Armadaeo (SAL on RUclips) or Jake Williams, Bright Sun Films and even Northcogg would have covered it. All three really do deep research into their videos. Jake Williams/Bright Sun Films runs the Abandoned Explained, Bankrupt and Company Man channels. SAL has a travelloge and NorthCogg goes to a lot of dead and dying malls. Some areas had too many in a geographical area. Others were doomed for other reasons, including one, long demolished due to high crime, including a girl killed by a coward that caused its eventual closing. Another is retailers that have went under with the big anchors making up most of the reasons. Sears for not keeping up with the changing times, JC Penny due to one CEO that made changes everyone hated, BonTon which was another huge anchor of course is long gone.
20 Theatres
Did you guys film this in March 2023 ? Another question , are you guys a couple ?
Yea some time last year this was filmed, and yes we are a couple!
