📌As mentioned by a commenter, I forgot a crucial step in this guide and that is enabling POP3/IMAP email forwarding in the Gmail settings. I created a video on that which is linked below. 🔗ruclips.net/video/ltPG9reK7tU/видео.html
How to set up Gmail in Outlook for beginners [IMAP & POP3] (tutorial). Very calmly and clearly explained. So I was able to execute your clear instructions very calmly in one go. Excellent, impressive quality. I haven't found a better tutorial than yours anywhere on the Internet. Congratulations.
Thanks! Such a very clear tutorial I knew how to do this in Outlook 2010 but it was the bit using control pannel to get to the add account bit in 365 that was the info I was missing as when adding an account from within 365 it just doesn't seem to give you the same options
Long story but I had to change my Outlook outgoing server settings to use my gmail account instead of my service provider. This video was very extremely helpful. Brilliant video - clear instructions, thank you very much!
I originally had my Gmail set up as a POP3 account in Outlook. However after a computer failure I lost my connection. The only way I could reestablish a connection was via IMAP. This was not my preference as I need a POP connection. Either Gmail or Outlook have changed their set up procedures as I never had to go through all this nonsense when I initially set up my account. I have been searching for ages to find out how to get my POP working again. Thank you so much for this tutorial. I now have my email working again as it was before the computer failure.
Great to hear that you managed to set it up! I have to admit, it can be quite difficult if you don't do it often, so well done for managing to set it up. 😀
Pleasure! Just make sure that you expand the "Gmail folder" in Outlook because there are separate folders under it. If that doesn't work, go into the advanced settings again like I show at 6:35 and there should be a setting that says "save copies of sent items" if you set it up as IMAP. If you set it up as POP3, the folders and sent items will be empty as it's not a sync like IMAP, but any email you send out of Outlook wil be displayed in the Sent Items, but it won't be displayed on the sent box in Gmail online. If you want it to be like that, then you must set it up as IMAP.
I've been having trouble getting my deleted emails in Outlook to delete from the Gmail server. Other email clients I've used didn't have this issue and it's a bit frustrating. This tutorial revealed some options in the Control Panel that might help me resolve this so I'll be trying them later when I get back to my desktop.
thank u for your video - 2 question from side - 1.How do i know all email signed and 2.i want to configure the same account to another user pc (any setting is there)
I see that's used for Google Workspace accounts, this tutorial is only for the normal personal Gmail account. You might still need it for the workspace account but I'm not sure.
Looks like POP3 is better. However what if we setup POP3 on computer and on phone. We would receive same message and we would need to mark as read same message on both devices?
Yes that's correct, unless you disable the setting to "leave a copy of message on server" on both devices, that way, whichever devices downloads the mail first will have the mail, but the other device will never receive it.
Thank you for your tutorial, but you forgot a CRUCIAL part of setting up the POP account: On the computer, open Gmail. In the top right, click Settings. See all settings. Click the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab. In the "POP download" section, select Enable POP for all mail or Enable POP for mail that arrives from now on. At the bottom of the page, click Save Changes. In my case, my POP account was disabled for all emails, which caused a Password / Login error every time. That took me a long time to figure out!
Thanks for this. You are right, it has to be enabled. I think I forgot to mention it because by default it is enabled, it will only be disabled if the user has gone and disabled it themselves sometime. I will make a video showing how to do it as well, thanks!
Pleasure! Personally I like POP3, but if you want your Outlook emails and Calendar to constantly sync and reflect with the online version of Gmail, then IMAP is what you should use.
Thanks for your EXCELLENT tutorial. I successfully set up my Gmail in both the IMAP and the POP3 in Outlook. I think the POP3 canceled out the IMAP. Should I have only set up one or the other - IMAP or POP3? Or can I have both in Outlook?

after adding my GMAIL acct in outlook 2016 via IMAP, I am not able to send emails from my gmail id to outlook email id using the outlook 2016 client. How to fix that?
If you set it up as IMAP I don't think you need 2-Step Verification. But if you want to use POP3, I haven't found another way to do it, you need 2-Step Verification in that case.
Just make sure that you are using the exact same settings as I show from 06:00 in the video. The outgoing authentication must be on and on the next tab, if port 465 and SSL is not working, you can also use port 25 with STARTTLS. If it's still not working, let me know what the error is that Outlook is displaying when you test the account settings.
If you have it set up as POP3 and you delete a mail from Gmail, it will still be in your Outlook. If you set it up as IMAP, you will need to create an archive folder for your emails in Outlook and only once they are archived you can delete it from Gmail. The sent items will only be displayed in Outlook, it won't be synced to Gmail Online. Also, any sent items you already have on Gmail Online, won't appear in Outlook.
