the fact squirrel stapler is meant to be a parody of these types of games and yet has a more enjoyable and fulfilling gameplay loop says a lot
Weird how Squirrel Stapler almost immeditley popped into my head while watching this too. Checked and it even has the better Main Menu guitar. And that was a GameJam thing so it was done in a couple of days and still feels miles better than this.

22:54 Just wanted to give a brief explanation of the shotgun in the game. It fires a rifled slug, which essentially turns the shotgun into a large bore rifle. There is no large hit pattern because it isn't firing lead shot. Just a single bullet. This is possible because the barrels of most shotguns can be replaced for a slug barrel.
Slug rounds are something we don't see plenty of in gaming (Unless I am missing something) and sadly this bad excuse for a hunting game has slug rounds be an ammo type.

The 'why offer different weapons if they all act the same' point stands though.
@@Tiredcream6472Funnily enough, the differences in the 12 Gauge types is much of what makes Dinner Bell and the Riot Shotgun in Fallout: New Vegas phenomenal options in a game filled to the brim with much more noticeably over-the-top hilarity. Being able to switch ammo from standard pellets to buck, magnum buck, pulse, fire, even beanbag for fatigue if that’s how you wanna play, give the two much more versatility than most other weapons that have alt ammo which simply increases damage, pierces more armor, and/or degrades your weapon faster.
All you need to do is apply Shotgun Surgeon and And Stay Back and watch as your enemies flail and collapse.

You can tell them apart from hens and jakes when they start showing off to females. That’s most likely why the previous turkey’s model spontaneously changed on them.

I just love that out of the three weapons in the game, one is a 18th century musket. Given how bad the game already is, I dread to even think how the devs could have handled a musket.

There is actually a hunting season for muzzle loaded weapons. There’s a big market today for modern muzzle loaded rifles specifically for hunting purposes.

There's so many crap hunting games for the Wii that it boggles me that Nintendo didn't think of making a Duck Hunt game for the console to show these ass clowns how it's really done.

Man the Wii was crazy. Everything’s either Super Mario Galaxy or Canada Hunt.
Same for the NES, really.
The Bleak Buckshot Galaxy was always my least favorite set of levels.
The DS was the same way. There were some amazing RPGs and platformers on it, or rushed licensed shovelware.
Nowadays those are all mobile freemium games.
If a Wendigo or something attacked outta nowhere, the game would become a 10/10

The shotgun you showed did say it was firing rifled slugs. With that it should make a single impact. That is before you get to any of the weird ammo types for rifles, pistols, & shotguns.

This just reminds me of an old PC hunting Game that gave you an incredibly realistic experience in regards to hunting. It walked you through how aiming with different guns and even bows worked, gave you limits for your hunts, you even had to hunt between specific times of the day, and each animal you killed would unlock a recipe for that animal.

@@HelghastStalker There's quite a few good ones from back in the day, I know my grandfather would play the ones he had when it wasn't hunting season and they were all really good and detailed. There's really no telling.
I remember playing one of those and it included the sitting around for 4 hours not seeing anything and waiting for a deer in a tree.

Werner Herzog is a very well known art house filmmaker, whose narrations in his documentaries are often florid and poetic yet nihilistic and bleak. They're playing on the bleak, isolated Canadian landscape supposedly depicted in the game being narrated by him as if it's in one of his documentaries.
The joke is that he just appeared and started narrating unexpectedly.
Absolutely love the Werner Herzog impersonation you guys did for the game. It turned an otherwise entertaining piece of commentary into truly timeless cinema.
The models popping in and out of existence is called "entity culling". When you're no longer looking at the entity, it stops rendering to save processing power. It's supposed to happen when the entity is fully off-screen, but usually the entity's center is what triggers the culling.
Oh, isn't that also why making entities super large in some games will cause them to cull when they move slightly offscreen?

Tbh, although entity culling is a normal process in most games, saying "Entity Culling" while talking about this creepypasta-looking software makes it a little creepier.

Are we really not going to elaborate further on how horrifyingly creepy that non stop droning sound of despair they use for the background is? Seriously that background noise while your character is roaming the forest is nightmare fuel, its like the sound of purgatory.

I thought I knew everything about Canada, from ketchup chips, double double coffees, Tim Horton's, poutine, and even toques, but today I learned that smarties don't exist in the US. I thought everywhere else called the hard powdered candies Rockets too. Thanks for these facts, you learn something new every day.
I had an American friend describe Smarties as "chalky" and it took us like, 5 minutes to realize we were talking about 2 different candies

With the spooky atmosphere i was expecting a dreaded Canadian Goose to chase the hunter. Missed opportunity for a Canadian themed slender man, mostly in Southern USA,with an Austrian flag, Oh the potential 😂
Canada geese are awful. They may look nice when flying in formation, but having them land in a park where they inevitably poop everywhere and occasionally harass visitors is nothing short of a public nightmare.

Multiple ghosts of wasted money have been haunting me for a while, some of which are from discs that are pretty much destroyed and no longer work... This exact game is unfortunately one of them

I have to point out that at 22:55 it states that it is firing a rifled slug. You can think of a slug as a giant bullet, rather the scatter/grape shot most people think of when they think of a shotgun firing. Slugs are mainly used when taking down larger creatures, as the greater size means greater mass, and more stopping power.
True, that said all three of those guns would be usable for large game, which makes each choice redundant. The only exception is if the game took recoil into account, along with reloading speed for the muzzleloader.
How the heck did Rerez AND Scott the Woz both teach me so much about Smarties in the span of a week?
And Caddicarus, who's from the U.K., didn't talk about them once in his video 🤣

You're correct, and that's helpful if you know the difference, but the game doesn't have any kind of explanation explaining as such. I still can't get over the game having no tutorials and no descriptions (unlike pretty much every other hunting game out there). Of course the guys wouldn't know the difference when they specifically mentioned that they know pretty much nothing about hunting or hunting games.

Speaking of Wii, I defiantly think eventually you guys should do a Just Bad Games on ALONE IN THE DARK (2008) game, but the Wii port. There are hundreds of videos that always talks about the 360, PC versions being pretty bad, and some saying the PS3 version being mid, but there are barely any videos that ever talk about the Wii port which is actually the worst version out of the group and that version has slight changes in its story and style compared to the others. So I feel there is a lot to talk about the Wii version of Alone In The Dark (2008) with the changes and differences between it and the other more talk about versions, and of course the horror that is the MOTION CONTROLS!!
The driving motion controls in that game were the worst.

The Wii port was met with bad press by review outlets that apparently Atari threatened to sue the review outlets, saying that they couldn't possibly have been able to revie the finished game when it wasn't released and suggested that they had downloaded a shotty version when in reality it was Atari that sent them the review copies of the finished product.
I'm not kidding, Atari was over in their heads to not realize that THEY had been the ones that shipped the review sites the shitshow that was Alone in the Dark 2008 on Wii.
One other fun fact about Nestle Smarties: Nestle didn't invent the name, the recipe and name was bought off a UK-based confectioner of tooth rotting sweets, Roundtree's (still very present here in the UK, has some good veggie options too)
Rowntree's, Nestlé bought the whole company and that's how the corp. got Rolo, KitKat, Lion, Yorkie, Aero & Smarties

It looks like an indie horror game but they forgot to add the horror or fun
im a wildlife student so once i saw turkeys in a game called “canada hunt” i immediately knew something was sus (turkeys have been extirpated from much of canada except southern ontario, though there have been efforts in the last few years to help reestablish the population)
Even then, you’d think they still could’ve set that level in southern Ontario and it would’ve worked. Just like how they could’ve set the elk hunts in Alberta’s Rocky Mountains rather than Colorado’s. Bottom line is, it’s truly absurd that they named a game “Canada Hunt” and then absolutely refused to acknowledge the sheer amount of geographical diversity of that country.

Love the series! That said I did catch a mistake you guys made. When mentioning the shotgun you said it should have a wider pattern. While that would be true if the shell was filled with shot (pellets), but that is firing slugs as it’s mentioned in the weapon description.
This would be perfect as analog horror

Rerez is the only channel I know that can make a 30 minute video talking about a random Wii shovelware hunting game and make it actually very enjoyable and fun to watch. Your chemistry alone sells this to me.
I think the "illegal game" bit being unexplained was probably some cynicism on the dev's part. That'd be common knowledge to someone deep into hunting, who the devs likely figured would be the only people likely to play these games if anyone at all, so they didn't bother pointing it out.
I'm torn here, since the male and female turkeys are shown in this video, so... it seems like the answer as to why shooting the turkey hen was "illegal" is obvious? (Also, is it illegal to shoot female turkeys?) But, with a game this bad, who really cares...
By the way, a male turkey is called a gobbler. And yes I just learned that.
@btr3k Shooting female animals tends to be illegal during certain parts of the year, varying by species, yeah. Even with that knowledge, it's a pretty cynical assumption on the dev's part and isn't a fully adequate explanation on its own.

The shotgun ammo description is a slug. Slugs are basically like a giant .50 cal bullet. That’s why the impact point of the shotgun seemed “tight” it was just 1 big bullet.
I can't believe these guys don't remember the 2019 Canadian annexation of South Carolina which was made to ensure that this game was at least partially correct.
As a South Carolinian, I'll be dead in the cold hard ground before I recognize Canada!

In Canada hunt you could use one of the three weapons a sniper rifle, a shotgun and a musket used in the American Civil War

It looks like a pc hunting game from the early 2000s, but buggy. I love these types of games, but this is awful.
22:53 Nitpick time! As the screen indicates, that shotgun is using slugs as ammunition. A shotgun loaded with slugs basically fires a really big bullet per shot rather than a spread of pellets. So, a small impact point is consistent.
But mechanically there is no difference between the rifle and shotgun slug so to reiterate what they said what is the point?

I'm not sure I can think of anything more amusing than Shane finding a Just Bad Game with CANADA in the name. If he bought it at A&C Games then we've truly come full circle! (Or full maple leaf!)
And not to mention that Canada also brought us Criticom on PS1.
Fun fact about the Wii sensor bar: it doesn't actually tell the Wii anything about the remote, it's just two infrared LEDs. You can literally replace it with 2 candles and the Wii remote will work just as well, if not better.
But these two game reviewers did not realize that the game studio behind the shovelware was actually created by none other than the dastardly Snidley Whiplash! Now he is running away with the gullible paying customers' money! Oh, how dare he!
