- Local Legends meets a one of a kind jogger in Kansas City named the Kansas City Superman. Michael Wheeler has been running along the streets for over 45 years. He started wearing the outfit to call attention to the crime that plagued the city. The 69-year-old Wheeler has become a Kansas City icon, promoting goodwill wherever he goes and always happy to stop and pose for photos.

i saw him on the tram once, very cool
First time I met him was in 2014 at a protest against the Israeli bombing of Gaza, and he was there throwing his football to the kids while the older folks chanted for Justice. Before I left Kansas City, I don’t think there was a single protest, parade or festival that I went to where I didn’t run into Super Jesus.
He is a legend and an icon.
I lived in KC for years and all of my interactions with Mr. Wheeler have been pleasant to say the least. I remember leaving the bar in Westport and playing catch with him before. Glad he is getting his flowers now.... Truly a legend!!!!
If you're not from KC, you just can't understand the power he has when he is around you. Laughter, smiles, it's just so incredibly moving. I'm so happy VICE did a story on him.
My grandma once said "LEGENDS DON'T DIE" and IT'S TRUE. They remain in our hearts forever ❤️...KC y'all are blessed.

@@_Smarf_ out of fairness you say he’s doing it for attention but at the same time you’re commenting on everyone post that’s celebrating him (as people should do one another) to let us know you’re the opposite of the love he’s getting (hate) and showing us in 36 years you and your small circle isn’t aware of what’s going on. Besides the religious stuff we have a good military member, backs the blue, support the youth, support all local artists, donates money, encourages people to be nice to each other, encourage people to run and you have the audacity to say you never heard of him yet dislike him and not convinced of what he’s done and mean to the town.

@@_Smarf_ yea I agree with you on the religion and kids part but that was normal propaganda for many boomer generation lol plus I ask what’s the deal and he said he got into when he got stabbed and almost died and the church came to visit and help so he wanted to pay them back and ended up getting converted and once he started running he wanted to better his life and said the church fit was a motivation to keep him in “good company “

Mr Wheeler is prolly the most popular guy in KC even more then the Chiefs
I have respect for this man because of him not attaching the speaker preaching about violence & deaths / negativity about what's going in the world separate from the entity he created with his history, because instead of doing the easy thing and putting on the Superman outfit when he's on the corner. He speaks his words of mind without an easy scape goat to get attention, and I find that inspiring as a good example for this generation.

I think every city has a local legend like this. In my hometown of Lansing, MI we had an old dude like this called Mr. Party who went around almost nightly dressed up in a top hat and suit, and handed out flowers to the nightlife. I just moved to KC last year and this is my first time hearing about the KC Superman.

You know you should come out here to Leesburg Virginia and check out our flag guy. He goes around and puts up flags all over the town and well have his car full of flags that is just around the town. Just love his cheery nature.

I remember when Kevin Hart came to town and Superman ran a “ pop-up 5K “ (Hart would announce these only 24 hours before when he was performing in a town) with Kevin Hart and about 4000 people and even ran the route twice.

I'm dealing with something at work, and the last few days didn't know how to handle that, so when K.C superman said "I could stay bitter, but choose to be better" thank you, I really needed that
I was doing the Kansas City Marathon Event 5 years ago (2017) and I my mother & I met him there. He was an awesome man. Played football with him & my mom danced with him during the KC Marathon after party. They had a local singer in the metropolitan area who sang Lady Gaga & Madonna songs.
At the KC Marathon event in 2017, he did the 5k race. I did the Half Marathon. I did this race and it was the best race and toughest race I ever did in my entire life. Everything that this race advertised was by far to the T. Not one thing was wrong. That was a race to remember. It was the first race I ever did outside of my home state. That race (half marathon was by far) a race to remember for the rest of my from the expo the day before, to the gun/fireworks, the actual race, the finish line, and the after party with a concert. You will never get that ever again unless it is the Major 6 Marathons.
As for KC Superman/Super Jesus. This guy is by far an awesome man and has alot more energy than even me after finishing a race.
The world needs this right now.

This is the KC Superman, also know as Mr. Wheeler. He is also one of my best friend's, Jordan, grandfather. Jordan and his younger brother Jaden can actually be seen in the video where they are eating (boys in grey and spiderman shirt). His daughter, Sommer, is like another mother to me. Whole family is full of great people. It's no wonder KC Superman is so great. Always great when i see him

In Pensacola Florida we have a guy called the running man.....he would run in a more of a sideways shuffle way. But he would always run with this giant American flag . He was a local hero...every one would drive by him and honk and he would give a wave or a thumbs up. Sadly he is older now and u don't see him much any more. But he has been in all kinds of stories....true legend lol

Michael Wheeler is the kindest human being I know. Met him online and have seen his preaching to the people of KC. KC Superman is amazing as Mr Wheeler's alter ego, but man that preaching is what people really need right now. We love him all the way from Central California!

KC Superman is an inspiration that with God, all things are possible. He unites people toward positivity. He visited my church one morning because he lives in Northeast Kansas City.
Mr wheeler is such a beautiful person . I use to live in the historic northeast Kansas City .near a halfway home for people leaving prison . Mr wheeler would be up there every week helping these people transition to the world. He is truly a beautiful man
