I don't need a camera on my phone at all. I don't play games or watch movies on my phone. I use my phone to make phone calls, email and text. I also use it for listening to music. for years I have wanted a phone that did great sound quality. I have been using a separate MP3 player by Cowon as phones are pretty naff in the music department. So, Marshall has finally produced what I want. I don't care what screen it has or if you can access social media and look at pictures of people's dinner. All the other stuff may matter to others but not to me. Hell, I'd love having the ability to swap DACs out like I do on my sound card. For a first go, phenominal effort. I'm a guitarist, I also play drums and bass. I go to gigs a lot and having the ability to record without distortion is a boon. Truly amazing device. I had to carry about a separate hand held device to do that before. I was always forgetting to charge it so having something similar that actually works and is integrated into my phone... Fantastic! Definitely not for everyone, but that's not the point. We all have different wants and needs. It's long overdue, a phone that isn't about mega-pixels and tiny cameras with a 1mm focal length that will NEVER take great photos. Some times less is more.
I don't share the other 3.5mm jack instead I use both at once. One for my ears, the second one is to stick earplugs up my nose for the full audio experience.
I actually like snapdragon 410 more than any other processor, yes it may be slower but snapdragon 410 stayed the most constant so there won't be lags and it uses less of your battery even more when phone asleep and for an audio experience smartphone this is a good processor, latest tech isn't everything look at i phones for example.
3165dwayne till this date my N91 is used for music only Online shops are still selling it just for 80 usd no phones can win its sound quality and soundchip try it to believe
3165dwayne Yes N91 can do just that trust me on this one. I used sennheiser and pioneer DJ headphone on N91 it blew me away. N91 vs iphone vs s7 N91 is winner actually there is a video on this too by arenaphone team. But of course Marshall is number one vs all. Cant argue on that. U have to buy N91 to beleive it. I myself cant too. I just re ordered N91 and it rocks. 90 usd on aliexpress recon model but 0 scratches
If they release a new Marshall London with -5.8/6 inch quad HD screen -3,000-3,700mAh battery -Samsung s/note 7 like cameras -4-6gb Ram -32/64gb internal storage -Snapdragon 820 I would definitely buy it, and I don't think that I'm asking a lot of things as they are the standard for flagships nowadays
Its not a flagship tho, also consider the price, with those specs its easy up to over 700€ Its a phone for musicians, not standard users, personally I love it
+Kung Lao Master You must be joking right? Android is amazing and the Samsung Galaxy s6 and edge are the most premium Android Smartphone to date which are made of both glass and metal.
Love The Analog Volume Slider. Great Idea Marshall However The Rest Of The Device Is Just OK/Decent Comparing To Other Midrange And Budget Smartphones.
Being a musician myself I can understand what they where going for but cutting down on specs was a big mistake. The thing I value most in a phone is media (as I think most musicians would) and by result love all the software features that are included, but that doesn't make up for the sacrifice in specs. It's all well and good to have all the fancy features but if the specs aren't there to back it up people just won't buy it. If Marshall made something similar to Huawei's Mate 7 or Oppo's R7+ but with this current design and all the audio geek features I reckon these would sell like hotcakes, or at least I would buy one...
I like this phone. only thing I would like is a better camera. camera quality/speed and audio are everything. screen resolution and other crap is just fluff.
THE MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION FOR THIS KIND OF PHONE: can I configure a upper audio jack as an input? so I can connect irig.. a electric guitar and then.. output what is being played out the speakers of the phone?? if this is possible, you could play electric guitar with just a cable and the phone. I cant believe nobody on the internet has tested this on any review.
No mention of the in-ear headphones that comes with the package? :( I know it's a phone review but I thought it would be worth mentioning considering that'll be part of the highlight of purchasing this phone.
This phone is perfect for me other than not being LTE. All I do is watch youtube and listen to music. Don't care for apps or games lol. I hope that this phone becomes available over in the US.
I like the analog volume dial and the two 3.5mm jacks, but the specs would have to be higher for me to consider buying it. It seems to be too sluggish, and I can't imagine any musician who would want to use this phone.
Nice review AA. That being said, audio review for the phone was meh. Nothing mentioned about the DAC or any other features that make this phone, as u said "audiophile" (not talking about the dual 3.5mm jacks or analog audio controller). Another disclaimer like "I'm not an audio enthusiast" would have been appreciated.
Why would they not sell in the US?? wtf .. 5.5" or higher screen display & up to date specs then we're set for a mainstream device.. Marshall can do it with next to no effort . love the design, it really stands out with the volume wheel, they need to keep the removable battery tho.. great as a back up phone none the less. love the idea.
If it was a more accurate color ips display that is 720p it would be even better, amoled drains more battery than ips because it drives each individual pixel and you need to get the best battery life out of this phone for long audio listening and Snapdragon 410 was a great choice because yes it might not be as fast but it's a constant speed so won't have lags and lags and use less battery even when volume turned up full.
NoodlesPoodle if you juat love and doesn't make music, NO. There is lot phone that support Hi res music such as sony z lines lg v HTC too with better performance
I like all of the reviewers mentioned, although Erica Griffin wasn't mentioned. She's every bit as good as those mentioned here, and she often covers aspects of devices that other reviewers barely mention, if they're mentioned at all.
This has an LG made feel to it. Almost the same specs as my LG Volt 2 (LG G4compact) 720 IPS display, 410 processor, on screen buttons on the bottom etc..
Now coming to the qustions as to how or if Snapdragon 410 chip is better than 615 or 800, Qualcomm has re-branded its modem products under the Snapdragon name in February 2015. so the main differentiation would be the Modem capability on the SoC. Given that Application processor remains the same the higher the number better its performance w.r.t Modem. Below is the full list of the specification which shows that 800 > 615 > 410. If the modem itself is constant then the APPs processor would be more powerfull. So the classification is done based on the combination of all the below.
So for an audio experience smartphone snapdragon 410 is still good and eats up less battery life which is good for an audio experience smartphone and when phone asleep the processors asleep and when listening to music the sound chips take over and Marshall claim 55 hours listening to MP3's and 30 hours of battery life with internal speaker, the processor may be slower but it's not all about latest tech and specs, look at iPhone for example. So when thus phone released I'd definitely buy.
Snapdragon 800 has a cpu clock speed of 2,300 MHz and snapdragon 410 is 1,400 MHz, so it's about half and snapdragon 410 stays more constant on clock speed, it's not a big sacrifice of speed to me for an audio experience smartphone, and I'm fine with 720p display if it eats less battery but the colors could be more accurate but that's fine, mainly going to use for audio anyway and I can take phone calls so don't need to carry 2 devices. So this smartphone is to my liking for the audio quality and the smartphone is pretty much stock android so there is not going to be bad lags but won't actually know until release and they put lolipop 5.0.2 for low audio latency and I still love lolipop so don't care for marshmallow and there used to be rumors that marshmallow eats more battery life than lolipop, don't know if this is actually true. The price of the smartphone is reasonable because there is hifi audio equipment that is probably expensive.
Yeah this device looks extremely niche. Maybe musicians and audiophiles might champion the phone...but I have a feeling that those guys would probably just get an Iphone or high-end Android handset. Maybe something like this might be more appealing if it wasn't a phone, but just a multi-use MP3 player....but heh, we'll see what happens. = /
I'd just use it as an MP3 player. I know android powered media players haven't sold well, but it's much cheaper than the £800 Sony are charging for the Walkman
Can we stop calling 4 hours of Screen-on time a good amount of battery? It's an imperfect measure of battery in and of itself, and 4 hours isn't that good at all.
I would sell my note 4 to buy this. It's funny that people buy a 16Gb iPhone for a price that don't match are complaining about the price of the Marshall. This is a phone for musicians and i think is the price for it, there is nothing on the market that matches the marshall, it is different in every aspect.
+André Filipe That analogy doesnt apply to this. For example, just because you like blue more than red, doesnt mean giving up a red V8 car for a blue 4 cylinder car is a smart option. You're taking a big drop in performance.
Sooo My screen, on my Marshall London, cracked about a half year ago. Requested them for a new screen (digitizer), which I wanted to use to repair the phone by myself. And that's how I returned to my s**tty speaker on my Galaxy S5 mini
why would any company will make a 4.7 fhd display?!even sony makes the z5 compact , a similar sized and much more heavier specd phone is also 720p... and meizu m2 (not the note version) is a 5.0 inch 720p and the screen is fine. u guys are bugging about shit... 4.7 1080p is a waist of battery and procsesor power...
Aren't they still expensive for their metal build, though? I just want a music phone that has a good DAC, because I listen to FLAC. I won't be using it as daily driver.
it'll be a good phone if it was priced to match its category... this can't cost more than 300$. the moto g which has the same hardware with a much better camera and Water resistance costs 220$
sim6699 Yes, I'm aware of that but they are missing the point that at the end this is still a phone (and a mid/low end one) I'm not saying it has to be prices as the moto g... Obviously the special sound capabilities have their cost but 500$ seems like too much
try search for an audiophiles gadget like DAP,DAC,etc they have higher price than this phone. actually this phone build for music addict and audiophiles
I don't need a camera on my phone at all. I don't play games or watch movies on my phone. I use my phone to make phone calls, email and text. I also use it for listening to music. for years I have wanted a phone that did great sound quality. I have been using a separate MP3 player by Cowon as phones are pretty naff in the music department. this would sell with flagship specs.
It had me on the audio, it lost me on the camera. I have a FiiO X1 already and it does great, I just need a phone.
+Xavier buy nokia n91 recon set 90 usd but same power old but good
3165dwayne till this date my N91 is used for music only Online shops are still selling it just for 80 usd no phones can win its sound quality and soundchip try it to believe
3165dwayne Yes N91 can do just that trust me on this one. I used sennheiser and pioneer DJ headphone on N91 it blew me away. If they release a new Marshall London with
-5.8/6 inch quad HD screen
-3,000-3,700mAh battery
-Samsung s/note 7 like cameras
-4-6gb Ram
-32/64gb internal storage
-Snapdragon 820
I would definitely buy it, and I don't think that I'm asking a lot of things as they are the standard for flagships nowadays
totaly agree dude
Its not a flagship tho, also consider the price, with those specs its easy up to over 700€
Its a phone for musicians, not standard users, personally I love it
@@Thewhtrbt they should charge 2000 USD for musicians.
$500? Excuse me?! People said the HTC One A9 was too expensive. This phone barely constitutes $400, perhaps less.
+Kung Lao Master You must be joking right? Android is amazing and the Samsung Galaxy s6 and edge are the most premium Android Smartphone to date which are made of both glass and metal.
+Kung Lao Master apple is not premium its just expcive .
+Kung Lao Master Obvious troll
+Dark Rush Umm... It has DAC components in the phone. They account for at least two thirds of the price.
what did you expect for the price of electronics in Europe?
Love The Analog Volume Slider. Great Idea Marshall However The Rest Of The Device Is Just OK/Decent Comparing To Other Midrange And Budget Smartphones.
0:06 ??
Yeah the camera kinda spazzed, I'm surprised they didn't reshoot that lol
+Foamland Security imo they seem to be slacking behind post production and actually reviewing the vid before they put it up live nowadays...
+CptSnuggl3z But...This Phone istn't THAT good..
Being a musician myself I can understand what they where going for but cutting down on specs was a big mistake. The thing I value most in a phone is media (as I think most musicians would) and by result love all the software features that are included, but that doesn't make up for the sacrifice in specs. That audio sharing feature is pretty killer you gotta admit
I like this phone. only thing I would like is a better camera. camera quality/speed and audio are everything. screen resolution and other crap is just fluff.

I cant believe nobody on the internet has tested this on any review.
Can you not pronounce "rubberized" as "rubberdize"? Thanks.
With better specs, I would instantly buy this.
I just love the design so much!
Shame the specs were just bad for the price.
No mention of the in-ear headphones that comes with the package? :( I know it's a phone review but I thought it would be worth mentioning considering that'll be part of the highlight of purchasing this phone.
It was 330 Euro in Europe during Black Friday Sale and I think for that it's a good buy if you REALLY dig the design and Music Features.
Dat shake do. Happy sabbatical Josh!
This phone is perfect for me other than not being LTE. All I do is watch youtube and listen to music. Don't care for apps or games lol. I hope that this phone becomes available over in the US.
But then the problem becomes the price.
I just love when android authority includes videos of jk films or David so
I like the analog volume dial and the two 3.5mm jacks, but the specs would have to be higher for me to consider buying it.
It seems to be too sluggish, and I can't imagine any musician who would want to use this phone.

Another disclaimer like "I'm not an audio enthusiast" would have been appreciated.
Its made for music not high performance... I Love it!!!
I'd rather buy the HTC one m9 for listening to music. You can get it for around $400 and the specs are a lot better.
Moto x pure even better than both and has dual front facing speakers.
true Huzaifa Qader
+Huzaifa Qader uh HTC m8 and m9 have stereo front facing speakers
+noble64115 I know but moto x pure is better in performance camera nice features etc..
you are not the intended user then. this is mostly for people who listen to lossless audio
or you could get a 6p for the same price
LMFAOOOOOOOO
+girlsdrinkfeck Z5? hires audio does the job well, and dont wear tight pants to snap a phone.
+girlsdrinkfeck Lol it doesn't snap in your pocket. It's not an iPhone
+Onbekend Onbekend it's made for "special" people ...
+Vedang P The Z5 audio isn't bigger than the 6P and the quality isn't as good. Still great audio on both devices though
I have an iPhone 6 and a Marshall London. The music on both phones just sounds the same to me. Do I have a hearing impairment?
I'm sure it'll sound better than my HTC, should have said something about high impedance headphones, if it'll drive them or not.
At last a phone that looks a bit different .Shame the specs dont match the price ,a 5inch full hd ips screen isnt much to ask for these days
Damn, we've had it since September and thought it's so low activity device that even no reviews appear
so between this and one m8 , which one would you say has the best audio quality
Would be really nice to know The tension(/voltage k guess, sry English is not my main language) and max current of the headphone jacks.
This with 1080p Display, 3Gb ram, better camera (s), snapdragon 805 or higher with that price... So nice
i wonder how much does the lossless playback affect its battery life...
Ohhhhh shy I've been waiting for this!
this phone actually looks really cool. looking forward to other marshall phones (and a Klipsch phone maybe, also an audio company)
Do you mean klipsch
A.K Rawion yes, edited
If it had an amoled display (720p) and a SD616 I would defenitly buy it
If it was a more accurate color ips display that is 720p it would be even better, amoled drains more battery than ips because it drives each individual pixel and you need to get the best battery life out of this phone for long audio listening and Snapdragon 410 was a great choice because yes it might not be as fast but it's a constant speed so won't have lags and lags and use less battery even when volume turned up full.
As a DJ and music producer who has a lossless music library, I wanna buy this phone
Has it been released yet ? still nothing for us.
Is it worth buying if I love music ?
NoodlesPoodle if you juat love and doesn't make music, NO. There is lot phone that support Hi res music such as sony z lines lg v HTC too with better performance
Actually, Marshall did not design it, it was designed by small company in Finland and Sweden.
I'm really trying to not like this phone. My music-lover self says "GET IT!" but my reasonable self says "don't be stupid".
I like Josh's reviews. At first I thought he was the only one on this channel, but unfortunately there are others that are way less interesting.
Agreed.
Great review as always, Joshua is the best reviewer on RUclips
don't forget Gary, he's really good as well
clearly you haven't seen Micheal Fisher!
+Mike Saleh Michael Fisher is defiantly the best.
+Mike Saleh yes I have seen his video's but Joshua is by far the best.
I like all of the reviewers mentioned, although Erica Griffin wasn't mentioned. She's every bit as good as those mentioned here, and she often covers aspects of devices that other reviewers barely mention, if they're mentioned at all.
3:20 Liked the video for Kygo
This has an LG made feel to it. Almost the same specs as my LG Volt 2 (LG G4compact) 720 IPS display, 410 processor, on screen buttons on the bottom etc..
This would be sweet if it was like $150. Wouldn't really use it for a phone though, more of a iPod
Turing Phone review anytime soon?
focusing on one aspect of a phone is no excuse for the horrible quality of everything else and the price.
seems like a really great phone I just wish the specs for better maybe next time
Amazing design!
which song did he play on that ? 😮

is that dust already in the ear pease
I am watching this on 2017 where the headphone jack is a rarity....
this phone has TWO of them fgs
I'd just use it as an MP3 player. I know android powered media players haven't sold well, but it's much cheaper than the £800 Sony are charging for the Walkman
They should have just decked it out with top specs.
I wonder if you can plug your guitar into this?
+Kyle Marshall You can, as long as you have the 3.5mm pin.
Awesome
this guy always does the best reviews compare to his colleague
$500? just buy Poweramp and use their awesome equalizers. problem solved
Can we stop calling 4 hours of Screen-on time a good amount of battery? It's an imperfect measure of battery in and of itself, and 4 hours isn't that good at all.
So, this was a DAP with call functionality :3
This is actually inspiring.
this gadget would be so much better if they made it an MP3 player , scrap that camera , cellular radio, etc... lower that price to like 100 bucks
the Cyrus DAC is worth more than $100, high quality audio equipment is expensive
Lol you can get a Moto X Style/Pure for that price, with front facing speakers as well and 10 times the performance.
I would sell my note 4 to buy this. It's funny that people buy a 16Gb iPhone for a price that don't match are complaining about the price of the Marshall. This is a phone for musicians and i think is the price for it, there is nothing on the market that matches the marshall, it is different in every aspect.
+André Filipe you would be fucking stupid to sell your note 4 to buy this this phone is fucking horrible if we dont count the audio quality
+Pointless Stuff Fucking pointless coment... we are not equal, we have differences, i might like red and you like blue. Got that?
+André Filipe That analogy doesnt apply to this. For example, just because you like blue more than red, doesnt mean giving up a red V8 car for a blue 4 cylinder car is a smart option. You're taking a big drop in performance.
It depends on what you are looking for. I am not a fanboy and i like it different. It's not all about performance.
with a time machine traveling back to 2000.
than you have the best phone in the whole world.
iPhone 6s 4.7 inch display 720p, definitely a bad display, I see
Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Review?
There is a 3GB RAM version so it would be better to review it.
i don't get why they didn't go the extra mile and put the latest specs on it. it would have sold like hotcakes... fact
Very good review. Thanks!!!
Sooo
My screen, on my Marshall London, cracked about a half year ago.
Requested them for a new screen (digitizer), which I wanted to use to repair the phone by myself.
Denied, the part was only exclusive through their services.
They offered to repair my phone, by shipping it back to them.
It would only cost about...
280 EUROS!!!! WHAT. THE. F**K!
And that's how I returned to my s**tty speaker on my Galaxy S5 mini
meh, the s6 also have an equaliser program called sound alive
better idea if this was designed for as a digital audio player
They need to make high end device with beter specs for daily usage not just for music .
why would any company will make a 4.7 fhd display?!even sony makes the z5 compact , a similar sized and much more heavier specd phone is also 720p... and meizu m2 (not the note version) is a 5.0 inch 720p and the screen is fine. u guys are bugging about shit... 4.7 1080p is a waist of battery and procsesor power...
if only they can give the name marshall law for their next phone
I will definitely see if I can get this just because I enjoy audio.
don't waste your money get an HTC One
Beats Audio is cancer.
+Armando Maldonado the m7 only has beats audio
Aren't they still expensive for their metal build, though? I just want a music phone that has a good DAC, because I listen to FLAC. I won't be using it as daily driver.
Armando Maldonado you should've mentioned you didn't want a daily driver
If this would cost 200$ i would buy it ASAP
It really sucks as a smartphone. I don't think it's going to make it.
when the speaker played I thought that the music was not from my laptop (I'm wearing earphones)
it'll be a good phone if it was priced to match its category... this can't cost more than 300$. the moto g which has the same hardware with a much better camera and Water resistance costs 220$
you're missing the point of this phone, its has a cyrus soundcard, they're expensive. Check the price of a Cyrus DAC alone
sim6699 Yes, I'm aware of that but they are missing the point that at the end this is still a phone (and a mid/low end one) I'm not saying it has to be prices as the moto g... Obviously the special sound capabilities have their cost but 500$ seems like too much
I hope they want to make another phone maybe next year! :)
1080p and 4gb ram would make this phone the only sensible option over the bullshit that's coming out now.
Man, throw solid specs at this phone with a qhd display and I'll pay 850-950 all day
Put a marshall logo on a $140 phone and make a couple of apps for it and it becomes a $500 phone? lol, good luck with that.
+zwashl that price is actually for the soundcard inside the phone,, it's just a little bit overprice only,, it drive high end headphone really well
+zwashl but teh logo is so...cursive
***** that's why i said it's overpriced, or maybe they use something special for the audio output jack idk
try search for an audiophiles gadget like DAP,DAC,etc they have higher price than this phone. actually this phone build for music addict and audiophiles
+Khalifa Al-Ard oh,and i forgot ti mention that this phone comes with marshall mode IEM (if u buy it separately it cost $99)
Please I won't to see Marshall London Speaker vs Alcatel one touch idol 3 Speaker vs HTC One M9 Speaker
Viper4android would take it to the next level.
Dolby Atmos master-race !
long live rock n roll
I'd go for a one Plus X and then get a Fiio or something
Or you could get a Nexus 6P for the same price...
Wileyfox reviews please!
dat fone lukz kewl lol
fuk lel
wut teh fuk iz rong?
+SpungeBawb stop man... this shit is getting waaay too old
+SpungeBawb people salty
NotJonathan Perez ya ik lel
Marshall should just collab with HTC
Looks like Marshall stole Apples headphone jack.
I like the design and the speaker but I hate the specs and the pricing 💀
