Gardner Stone "The General" Tractor Pulling - Jet Turbine Pulling Tractor NTPA

- I filmed this a couple years ago. Gardner Stone is from Middlebury, Vermont and I believe he has the most spectacular pulling tractor in the world. This is the NTPA's unlimited class, and the [tractor's] weight limit is 7900 pounds. In this class, you can have as many engines and bring as much horsepower as you can... but your tractor must weigh 7900 or less. The FOUR (4) turbine engines that you see are Lycoming T-55's. They were used in the Chinook helicopters and are about 3000 HP each. I actually have a lot of video footage and pics of his tractor, and i will probly make a tribute video some rainy day. Gardner is a really nice guy and he owns/operates G.Stone Motors in Middlebury, VT. I had purchased 2 diesel SuperDuty's from them, but no longer own them because diesel fuel is too much $$$.
A legend in Tractor Pulling.
Thank you for posting the entire event. Too many are just putting up the noisy 5 seconds.
They say the mini rods have the highest power to weight ratio but I think this big power house of a beast has them beat.
IIRC, the transport trailer had "12,000 Alcohol Drinkin' Horses" painted on the side. Classic Gardner.
I miss Art Arfon and Gardner Stone. Two real legends in modified turbine tractor pulling. Along with Art's kids...Tim and Dustie.
Awsome! This video just made my day! Thankyou!!
Flames are for the show. It's just dumping fuel into the hot exhaust after the power turbine, and igniting it. Same as an afterburner :)
i got to take a ride in his white and blue Ford GT he keeps at G. Stone motors. was fun.
Actually they ar T55-L7C Mil Spec Rating is 3200HP each
And the 4 you saw in the video are a true 3200 I ran every one
of them across the dyno at Kevin Meyers Nebraska Gas Turbines
when we rebuilt them and tuned them up.
The Lycombings you are refering to ar L11D
saw a jet tractor do its thing in real life... i bet it be scary gettin in the sled hooked up to that beast!
I wonder if the upward thrust helps maintain traction on the tyres?
Thats what i kinda thought. I only see them on jet cars. but i have just barely gotten interested in tractor pull. Thanx!! :~)
What a beast
Badass tractor more powerfull than most of the european tractor here
Great video thanks for posting. What kind/type of drivetrain can handle that power?
3000 X 4 = 12,000 HP.
the vid is a little too long before the pull, but cool vid anyhow! btw, are the flames for show? (which were pretty cool!) or is it some type of purging for safety or performance reasons?
Wow...
when did he officially retire? I have no idea if he ever did!
@jacebigelow Actually...not trying to be a dick but it's closer to around 18,000, assuming losses due to driveline inefficiency
Lycoming T55 produces 4,867 shaft horsepower at peak power. :3
was that at the chittenden count fair
Whispering Giant from the netherlands is the best modified turbine puller of the world!!!!!!
this has the most turbine power of any in america, you can like who you like but none have as many as gardner stone did anyway they dont even use this tractor anymore sadly, they did something to the sleds that negates the power of the high speed pulling turbines they would use, but its neat to watch and I love jet and turbine engines they just eat soo much fuel and produce soo much heat.
wispering giant is dutch not us! and got 4 isotov tv2 or tv3 turbine engines!
all I know is that gardern stone jacked the most power in america in his time, I hear he retired last year but it would be hearsey evedence I mean I have not been to a pull in a long time but love the raw power and the down to earth though buissy mannor of most of the pullers, they are not pretentious and stuck up like some celebs in their sports or area of profession.
ok but look on youtube Whispering giant than you know what i talking about:)
PS: I love all turbine or jet engines also the american !
smokey green the turbines on giant look like they might be larger.
i wanna see this thing go up a straight line :D
@memcu30 Close. Champlain Valley Fair. (same thing)
