Targaryen Prophecy: What was Aegon doing at Summerhall?

  • In A Song of Ice and Fire, the Tragedy at Summerhall takes place several decades before Game of Thrones begins and over a century after House of the Dragon ends. Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow's ancestor, Aegon V, hosts a Targaryen family get-together, which ends in disaster. This video looks at how this tragedy may be connected to various prophecies of Westeros and other ASOIAF lore as well. From Aegon the Conqueror to Rhaegar and Maester Aemon, the Targaryen prophecy of the Prince that was Promised is persistent.

    Honestly, Jon Snow being resurrected by the blood spell of sacrificing Shireen would be an absolutely insane way to reveal that he's actually a Targaryen. Like Stannis and Melisandre being absolutely confused by his sudden resurrection due to the ritual, only for one or both of them to realize the implications of their ritual to awaken stone dragons somehow bringing back this random guy.

    The implications of Targaryen men being beautiful beings in the books reinforces the fact that a lot of the dragon dreamers of the Targaryen dynasty after the Dance saw a vision of Daenerys being bald, hatching dragons using bloodmagic and sacrifice. It's sad that Maester Aemon was the only one to figure all this out right before dying.

      it kinda feels way too predictable, if preston jacobs theory is right then pregnant targaryen women are key to hatching dragon eggs, they probably actually hatched but the meisters tried to cover it up by murdering everyone in a wildfire related incident, and that's the reason rhaella has so many stillborns after this, she is getting poison to prevent her from passing on those dragon hatching genes

    I don't know if Aegon V was literally thinking of sacrificing unborn great-grandchild, but it was definitely an attempt of dragon hatching gone wrong. And it seems he was covering most bases, 7 eggs to honour the 7 gods, and a Maester on hand (if the Maester wasn't the only one trying to pass some account of the incident I would steer towards Maester Conspiracy), "blood of the dragon", without specifying who was there exactly, to bear witness (and maybe donate some blood), and maybe there was some sacrifice involving the wildfire (of someone inconsequential) that got out of control. And the Ghost of High Heart was there, wasn't she? With Duncan's Jenny. And she clearly has some old gods/children of the forest tie-ins. And who knows what dusty Valyrian spells were added to the mix.
    And I do buy that all of them were seeing some version of Dany hatching/ riding dragons and misinterpreting their dreams as it's often the case. Just how I believe Rhaegar dreamt of Dany and convinced himself she needed to be his 3rd child - Visenya, since Rhaenys and Aegon clearly didn't match. And he had no reason to consider she could be his sister. Viserys wasn't born until Rhaegar was what 18? And Vis was already 7 or 8. And the way his parents were and his mother's age, it was not a stretch to not expect another living child from them. So he assumed that this Dragon girl must be his, and since Rhaenys was dark-haired and Aegon light but a boy, he drew a conclusion that a 3rd child for 3 dragons is needed. Why he didn't consider that she may come from Viserys' line is another matter. It would be a twist of fate if it was Rhaegar's pursuit of Dany was a factor in the Rebellion starting and Jon Snow being born.
    But in the end, Summerhall both failed (no winged creatures were hatched) and somewhat succeed? From a sprawling family with many cousins, we have 5 people left. 2 couples and a newborn. Everyone else falls off the pages of history. Just the line to ensure that Dany and Jon are born. If Rhaegar discounted his brother, then there was no other path to dream!Dany other than from himself. And in the end, Dany's existence brought back dragons. And the whole Lyanna debacle placed Jon Snow in a prime position at the wall to face the prophesied threat.

      But it's not likely every maester participates in maesters conspiracy, they are a cult, there are ones who love magic read about them & have gained chains of it, luwin qyburn marwyn...
      So the conspiracy is a strong probability...
      But this line hit the feels : rhaegar's pursuit of Dany was a factor in the rebellion starting & jon snow being born

      @thalmoragent9344 If Rhaegar deamt of Dany, a Targaryen looking girl, then he knew his children were not her - they didn't match the dream. Rhaenys was a girl but had dark hair, and Aegon was pale haired but a boy. If he believed (for some reason) her to be his daughter, then he would try for a 3rd child to hopefully match his supposed prophetic dreams? Especially if he saw her against the shadow of 3 dragons or something...

    • @LusiaEyre
      @LusiaEyre 7 месяцев назад +2

      @thalmoragent9344 personally, I don't believe they were responsible for Summerhall. As for your complaint about the theory, that's the "joys" of conspiracy theories. One starts seeing "proof" and enemies everywhere. And we can not deny that Maesters disliked Targaryens and their dragons. If they had a hand in their extinction, would it be surprising if they wanted to prevent their rebirth? And, of course, they are influential confidants in many, many households, with access to letters and with a say on personal health, so if they had a common agenda, it wouldn't be difficult to push. They are very easy to blame for anything and everything :) It is difficult to stop once you start pinning things on them.

    I think the big secret of this tragedy might be that the eggs may have actually hatched inside Summerhall that night after some ritual (maybe a sacrifice), but the commotion (probably over said sacrifice) lead to the sudden spread of wildfire which killed the hatchlings as well as almost everyone present.
    I think that would be such a great reveal, if GRRM lives long enough to write it…being that an egg or even multiple eggs actually hatched in Summerhall, it would only add to the tragedy of it all.

      @@thatoneblackdude3333 Jaehearys hatched Vermithor.
      He placed an egg in his son Aemon’s cradle that probably hatched into Caraxes.
      All of Rhaenyra’s sons with the exception of Viserys (II) hatched their eggs.
      Aegon II’s son hatched his egg Shrykos
      So by my count that’s at least 6 possibly 7 if Aemon hatched his egg.

    I theorise, and this is just my imagination nothing else, that Rhae, Daella, Daenora, Vaella and there there three children (7 in total) Survived with the 7 newly hatched Targaryen dragons and escaped too Ashai. And this is why Quaithe keeps saying Daenerys needs to go to Ashai. Thus reuniting the old empire of the dawn to it former power. Or even creating a new Valyria. And in my own head Drogon could sense other Targaryen dragons in the east, Valyria or Ashai and took Daenerys there where she could be resurrected and return to her family. But, again this is my own speculation and wishful thinking, and has not truth or lore behind it at all. I just like the idea of house Targeryen and there dragons living on somewhere 🤷.

      Considering George explicitly called it “Stannis’s decision to burn his daughter,” I expect this is how it will go down in the books. It wouldn’t have as much weight on Stannis’s character arc unless he makes the decision himself. We’ll have to see, though.

    • @tonysled6796
      @tonysled6796 8 месяцев назад

      there is nothing in his character arc to suggest he would make that move. however if he faked his dead and Shireen was left without protection at the Wall especially after Jon Snows death, then i can see her being killed or sacrificed. especially considering Davos is also gone. George has said alot of things about this world. what he says changes as im sure you know.@@CrusaderChris
