I don’t get the “acting” comments. Palmer is portraying a Cinderella that is completely out of her element. She IS NOT portraying My Fair Lady without the work, where she can magically fit into high society, as if she was born for it. She’s in a ball she was never expecting to attend, in a palace that is completely out of her element, her step mothers and step sisters eyeing her suspiciously, and suddenly finds herself not only talking to a prince, but also dealing with the fact that he feels equally passionate toward her. She is every girl (and frankly, I can still relate to her characterization as a guy) who suddenly finds themselves in someone’s arms, and still not believing it is happening. She maintains that awe, then adjusts it to confidence, with her facial expressions elevated, expressions that are proper for the stage, and also engaging for the audience that is watching. She’s a fantastic interpretation of Cinderella, and probably the one I relate to most.
You are absolutely right I feel like people are 1. Thinking this was recent which it’s not 2. Putting their expectations of past portrayals of the characters like it’s obvious Keke went with the more excited version whose not afraid to be goofy and honest unlike the other people 3. People who know nothing about theatre trying to criticize this amazing performance given by the actors
Wow! Really enjoyed this! I actually think he's the best prince I've seen, even though I'm a huge Santino Fontana fan! And there's nothing like that music, it goes right to my heart! She's adorable and wonderful. It's almost impossible to be big enough for Broadway and natural at the same time. Joe Carroll is genius in this role.

They rewrote the book, there are copies of the script you can purchase, on line or in bookstores. But look at the original cast videos and the carly rey video of the entire show and you will understand they added songs from the Hamerstine music trunk, and expanded the story so it is updated, yet still period for the time period.
Her voice is beautiful, but i have to be honest her acting is horrible... and in films her acting isnt bad at all, i just dont think she knows how to translate that to the stage...

Lol funny story do your history ladies and gentlemen in the real story of Cinderella she was black and a maid/slave who sneaks into the ball in her master's gown and colors herself white to know how it feels to be rich and human. But Disney took the story and changed it up.

just being curious, where did you get that information from? as far as i know the story as told in this musical and by Disney is based on a french version, dating back to the 17th century, where Cinderella is forced into servitude by her stepmother...there is nothing about her being a slave/maid in the first place, as far as I'm concerned
Check out where Disney really got there stories. Walt Disney was not the man we all thought he was. Walt Disney himself even help Hitler with cartoon. I'm not against disney or anything. But some of the stuff as kids we thought was so perfect has racial promebles the story is here on RUclips. But with keke I think for her frist time doing a show and only having a few months to get it together she did very well. People have to see that she is a artist who sings pop so this type of music she has to cut down her voice for the part. To me Carly sounded just the same
Walt Disney definitely wasn't a saint, you're right about that, I believe there's probably a lot of controversy in the industry in general...however the story has been around for hundreds of years, throughout different cultures, nobody can really claim "the original" and Disney took what was available and adjusted it.... and as for Keke, for me it's not a racial thing, I just think that a rather classical soprano fits the part much better, same for Carly...Laura Osnes really was a perfect Cinderella for me
People are saying the acting is bad? It's STYLIZED. If it was too modern/straight/etc, it wouldn't fit the tone. Same with soap opera/anime etc. It's not necessarily that they're always *bad*. They're just styalized.
In Act 2, the Prince throws a banquet to find her again and then the clock struck midnight again and then she gives him the slipper and to quote an interview with Keke Palmer "She goes you want me? Come find me!" And then the prince does the famous slipper scene and boom that's the show
Her acting seem “unnatural” because this is not how she normally talks. She had to change her accent and over enunciate her words to be “understood”. She talks real fast in real life, and I think being a new stage actress she hasnt fully practiced switching out of it
Ugh! Nene Leakes. I can't stand her. Plus, Broadway keeps putting names on stage instead of trained talent. For the price of the tickets, I want t a better performance.
I love how everyone assumes that people are just being racist when no one was actually racist. I don't like her performance because her facial expressions are way too intense even for the stage, and she doesn't look nor sound natural. Also her voice is too strong. She's got a great voice, but it's too belty for this kind of music. And again it's not because she's black. I think Brandy did a great job as Cinderella in the movie she was in, she had a soft pretty voice, and while of course acting in movies is very different from the stage I liked that she was more toned down. If she had been on stage you would hardly have been able to see her, but yall need to remember there are bright lights and her hair is completely pulled back, you can see her face clearly.

The real show stealer was Joe Carroll as Prince Topher though several Cinderella's throughout his almost 12 months in the show. His singing was powerful and got stronger. His "Ten Minutes Ago" beats Santino Fontana's. And his nice guy comes through in his acting. Good at comedic acting. ("Again?!") Looks like he really cared about putting everything into this big leading part (only his third one on Broadway acc'd to his bio). He's in Bandstand now on Broadway, which opened late April 2017 Laura was good. Carly looked like she made the part her own. Perky and her dancing was good. I liked her twangy pop voice. I have to agree on Keke. Really bad acting and weak singing. Bad dancing moves. Joe looks like he's really over-compensating to help her. Especially on the big lift. You will see what I mean about Joe's powerful singing and Carly's perky acting.
