    OMG Thank you for posting this!! MY grandfather was a "Pumper" in the oilfields here in Texas, wich means he was a guy that drove from well to well sometimes hundreds of miles all together every day, day in and day out with no days off for over 50 years, he gauged the levels of the oil tanks, he took care of the surrounding property, cut the grass knocked down trees made sure cows hadn't walked up and kicked a valve open or shut, if the rods in the well seperated he made sure a crew came out and pulled the rods and replaced them, etc etc, anyways I used to ride along with him and he had bought one of these mowers so when he was gauging the wells or checking gas-line charts I would take this mower and mow the grass (if any) mostly I would cut weeds or even sometimes farmers wheat that had grown up around the tanks, so he gave me the mower when I had gotten married and we moved into our own place. Long story short, my junky-tweeker of a brother stole it from me and repainted the entire thing, I was so pissed off I almost shot him, the sentimental attachment I have to this mower, every scratch and ding was a story of me and my grandpa, now covered in red paint. I still get angry as im writing this, but he had taken the gear linkage apart to paint the thing, but had it all just hanging in the top loop-hole, when I ended up snatching it back from him. So here I am today, wanting to refurbish and put this thing back to work in my yard, but I can not figure out how in the hell the linkage fits back together, so it will push it into different gears, I have tried flipping things this way and that, and I still cant figure it out. Hopefully between your video, that has now givin me a make and model and even a year, I can track down some schematics. Thank you sir!!! ------- (Edit - I stopped your video at 1:21 and it shows me EXACTLY what I have done wrong, I got the linkage attatched to the wrong side of that metal shifter) THANK YOU AGAIN!!!!!!!! 1:40 EVEN BETTER SHOT from the other side, I would actually like to shake your hand and thank you in person. You have no idea how happy I am. (OK this is weird 2:08, someone has cut your shifter down really short, mine has that shift handle all the way up at the top of the push bars, unless a different year came like that, but I dont know why it would.)

    My mom has the same one! I cut her grass with it every year. Put new shoes on it 3 years ago. Burned the old ones off. This thing will mulch high grass with the big 6.0 B&S. Starts on 1st pull every Spring. My dad bought it in 1995. I don't know too many mowers that last 28 years

    I have that same mower but with the 6hp Quantum XM Briggs! The best push mower that I have ever owned! You are certainly correct when you say “it is a beast”! Yours looks damn good. I used mine for years and then put it in a non climate controlled storage unit for years and that aged it more than when I was using it. Now I am bringing it back to life. From what I have been reading….this Snapper is performing much better than the self propelled “Bad Boy” push mowers……which costs about $1600 😮 “GET YOU SOME OF THAT” “YEAH!”

    This machine is a SAVAGE!!! I still have the one my pops bought when I was in the 7th grade which was 1994 and it still runs like a champ!!! Since then I have acquired 3 more exactly like it and they all run like a spotted ape!! And I got those other 3 from the side of the road that people were throwing away and normally I dont pick up stuff that people throw to the road but when I see one of these animals I always pick it up. A few weeks ago I picked up one in my neighborhood and it is the same age as my original but looks like they stored it in the house it is so clean. It has since become my primary and I cant say enough about these mowers except that they are the best mowers ever made. Period

    Pull cord won't pull. Clicks and stops. Was always hard to start. Thoughts? Video suggestions? I watched a couple and couldn't find the cause.

    • @joshwyble6558
      @joshwyble6558 2 года назад +1

      If you remove the pull string unit off of the top of the motor (you may have to drill a couple of rivets out to get it to come off) but once you have it off, try pulling the cord out all the way until it is completely at its end then let it go and watch how it recoils. It should rewind itself all the way until only the handle remains on the outside. If it does not rewind itself all the way then you could have a break in the recoil spring that causes the cord to recoil. Or it could just be that it needs to be rewound manually and set back into place. You can replace the nylon rope with a new one but if you choose to go this route, you must manually rewind the interior piece then stick a screwdriver or something through it to prevent it from immediately rewinding as soon as you release your hand from it. Once you have it held in place just run the new rope through the hole and tie off a good knot that wont come undone at the first sign of resistance. Once you have your knot tied, clasp the entire housing in your hand like you would hold a sandwich applying pressure with your thumb and other fingers as you remove the screwdriver or whatever you had run through the housing preventing the mechanism from rewinding.. once you pull that out and your knot is nice and tight, let it go and it should quickly rewind itself only this time it rewound the new rope. Run the other end through the handle and again tie a solid knot as this will be the anchor to the handle when you are pulling to start your mower... I know this was a long winded reply but I hope it made some sense to you or anyone who reads it

      Josh; Good advice,thanks! I just went thru this today w/ a neighbors discarded Snapper just like this. I did not think I could
      get it apart. The pull cord and end of the spring were both broken , and the springs pully was frozen to its rusted shaft .I just kept prying and turning it until it came loose. Cleaned and lubed the shaft, replaced the cord, looped the broken end of the spring per a RUclips video and put it back togethor. I might get to see if I will run tomorrow. .

    Keep the 6 HP Snapper off our lawns.
    The 6 hp Snapper is so inherently dangerous to the common safety of lawn mowing that its use as a lawn-worthy mower should be banned. I don't reach this conclusion lightly. There are more powerful, and even faster, mowers available from other mowermakers that are rightly lawn legal. But just as John Deere is wrong to use innocent flowerbeds to showcase its mowing technologies, Snapper is wrong to offer this BEAST MACHINE as a legal lawnmower.
    From its barely legal slick front tires to its monstrous offset slick rear tires, the Snapper is the result of a sequence of misguided choices that places bragging rights ahead of public safety.
    Laudably, the entire industry has made great strides toward improved mower safety in recent years, even as it dials up performance capabilities. But the Snapper spits on that goal and irresponsibly moves in the opposite direction, knowingly placing the lawn mowing public in danger in the process.
    The Snapper may comply sufficiently with the letter of the Lawn Mower Safety Standards, but in its current form it certainly doesn't fulfill the spirit of those standards.
    To borrow a phrase from Ralph Nader, the Snapper BEAST MACHINE remains unsafe at any speed
