- If you've ever wanted to make a delicious Cuban Sandwich at home but felt you couldn't do it because you don't have access to fresh baked Cuban bread. I feel you. I LOVE Cuban sandwiches. And after enjoying an authentic Cubano in Tampa, that practically melted in my mouth, I was inspired to at least give it a shot. I surprised myself at how good it turned out, even though I used French bread and had to improvise a little. You'd be surprised what marinating pork in a homemade mojo sauce overnight, and then cooking it low and slow for ten hours will do! Read on for the full recipe.
Cuban Mojo Sauce
2 Tbsp. cumin
1 1/2 Tbsp. crushed black pepper
2 Tbsp. dried oregano (or 3 Tbsp. fresh)
10-12 garlic cloves, minced
the juice of 2 oranges (approx. 1 cup)
the juice of 6 limes (approx. 1 cup)
Mix all ingredients well and set aside.
5-7 lb. pork butt
Rinse pork butt and pat dry with paper towels. Use paring knife to stab holes into pork, creating areas for marinade to go into. Salt pork butt generously. Place in giant, sealable plastic bag or in large container that has a lid. Pour mojo sauce over pork butt, seal, and place in refrigerator to marinate overnight.
Place pork butt in slow cooker, along with all the mojo sauce it was marinaded in. Cook on low for 8-10 hours, until meat pulls apart easily with a fork. Taste to see if more salt is needed and make adjustments, if necessary.
For Cuban Sandwich
french baguette (if you don't have access to cuban bread)
pulled pork
smoked deli ham
genoa salami
swiss cheese, sliced
pickles
plain yellow mustard
*plus butter to brush on to bread before grilling (optional)
Cut bread length-wise into pieces that are approximately 7''. Then slice down middle. Spread mustard onto inside of each bread. On bottom bread slice place smoked ham, followed by generous layer of mojo pork. Put swiss cheese on top, followed by pickles. Finally, top it with a layer of salami and put bread on top. Brush on a little melted butter before placing onto sandwich press or hot griddle. (I don't have a sandwich press, so I used a heavy cast iron skillet to squish it down.) Flip over and cook until both sides are toasted and cheese is melted. Take off griddle, slice diagonally, and enjoy!

You are too kind. I’ll pass the compliment on to my husband, who’s the photographer and editor. Meantime, hello to you in my home state. 🤗
@@marcyinspired1442 Wow! I figured you worked with a team of videographer/audio people. You and your husband really put together a high end product. Congratulations. I love your channel.
@@13Voodoobilly69 Thanks so much! I showed your comment to my husband. He works really hard, so I'm always happy when people notice the effort he puts in.
La Segunda is a good choice. Their bakery sets the standard for Cubans.
I could see why. We loved everything we had there.
OMG! This looks mouth watering delicious! I will definitely be making this. Thank you Marcy!
Thank you, Sally. You’ll love it. 🤤
I don't know if he's professional but it looks like a tv show. I love tortas, specially of melted white cheese and avocado.
Thanks for the compliment, and the idea. (May have to make tortas in a future video. 🤔 ) My husband does do this professionally. I’m super fortunate. .
Great presentation 👍🏻😎
Thank you for taking the time to say that. I appreciate the encouragement. 🤗
Damn!!! That looked sooooo good my mouth was even watering when you cut it!! Now you've inspired me to actually make this, I'm a man on a mission!!! Great Job in Tampa BTW!!
You crack me up. 😂 Thanks for the great feedback. It means a lot coming from you.
I wish I lived there instead of Missouri 🙄Went on vacation to Tampa Florida didn’t want to leave best place ever including California 👌🏾
Delicious Cuban sandwich 🔝💯
Thank you 😋
La Segunda is my favorite by far....
I can see why. Their bread is SO good. We loved everything we tried there.
hi Marcy!! the cubano sandwich is an amazing sandwich in and of itself, and i might add your version looks absolutely delish!! thank you for sharing, but I was wondering if you can make a sandwich native to Albuquerque? the Albuquerque turkey. i am missing home pretty awful, but would like to have one soon in the near future. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰😍
That’s a great idea. Maybe I’ll share an Albuquerque turkey at some point in the future.
Beautiful video and very nicely explained 👍
Thanks so much. I appreciate the kind feedback.
My favorite Cuban sandwich is the one I just to eat in Miami in the 70s and 80s.
The Miami Cuban is a cheap imitation. They can't even make their own Cuban bread. They have to import it from Tampa. The vast majority of Cuban bread served in Miami including all served by the Miami Dade school district is made by the La Segunda Bakery in Ybor city, Tampa. It is the same bakery featured in this video
Birthplace of the Cuban sandwich is Cuba, but I guess the Cuban sandwich with salami is from Tampa. No salami in my Cuban sandwich.
How do you get to making of the Cubano with that pulled pork sitting there ready to eat?
I’ve never seen a Cuban sandwich with salami on it but ok. I’m not mad at it lol
Thanks for not being mad about the salami! Lol I was just copying the sandwich I enjoyed in Tampa and it was SO delicious!
What happened to the mayonnaise?
It is the way the original Cuban was made in Tampa. It represents the Italians and their influence here.
Oye eso no lleva salami
Panera chiabatta is a good cuban bread substitute
That's good to know. Thanks for the tip!
@@marcyinspired1442 Has to be Panera though - the grocery store chiabatta is way too dense! Thanks
You don’t put salami in a Cuban my family has a Cuban restaurant for 45 years chef tommyT
They do in Tampa. It's a Tampa thing.
if it has salami added by Italian, then it is not a Cuban sandwich.
Was gonna say, I've never heard of salami in a Cubano.
Sorry to tell you a Cuban sandwich does not have salami on it so that's not a real Cuban sandwich 😢😢😢
WTF WHO PUTS SALAMI ON A CUBAN SANDWICH. NOT RIGHT !!!!!
It is not unic in Tampa. In Miami, where most Cubans live, they also put Salami in Cuban Sandwiches.
NOOOOOOOOO!!!! Sorry! Not a Cuban with French bread! You might as well have put Mayo, lettuce and tomato on it! 😩
