Made alot of these for newel post using this method but only larger in size like 4-8 inches in size. Its not only easier but also helps control the straightness of the post to!! Wow the bed is coming along great!!
Dang, I’m new to DIY woodworking and can’t figure it out. Guess being a pipe welder for 25 years has dumbed me down. Awesome Craftsmanship. Gotta keep rewinding this over and over. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Great veneer job. My shop master would have taken my head off, if I had removed dry glue with a joiner/plainer, instead I would light scrap or remove with warm water before glue dried. It would not matter if glue was pushed into the wood fibers, because you will remove that wood fiber.
Как же я вам завидую... Эти станки... блин. Делай что хочешь... обалденные работы у вас. Добавьте в описание какое-нибудь список вашего станочного парка?)
Excellent technique. I have done legs with no visible joint by using miter joints. Your method takes more steps by I think is actually easier. If you wanted to make them lighter you could leave the center hollow. It would depend on how you are attaching rails.
I am a great fan of your work and effort put in these nice videos. For this video, I understand you should glue, best to have an equal surface pattern for all sides and to have invisible joints. The fact that for the center, inferior wood can be used is an extra. But I found there is a big loss in material. In the end, there is only 4mm on each side. Why not cut 6-8mm stripes and glue them first 2 sides, joint, and then other 2 sides. What do you see as disadvantage?
beautiful looking work, would you suggest this method for some indoor posts/railings and what wood would you recommend, so I dont have warping/twisting.
Very nice kids bed. A good way to use lower quality wood. It took me a while to figure out what you were doing. Was it necessary to cut the outside pieces in about half for the legs? Couldn't have you used thinner pieces? I'm thinking about the wasted wood
for a minute I thought you were climb cutting which we know is pretty dangerous without a power feeder. Then I noticed you had reversed direction on the shaper. Any particular reason you decided to reverse direction? I'm looking at getting a Felder KF500 so I can have a saw/shaper combo as well. Do you find the switch over cumbersome?
I have a feeder, but I didn't use it in this video. I used reversed direction because I had only one rounding cutter with 6 mm radius that time. Reverse direction is useful because many professional cutters have knives to be used in two directions. I bought the rounding cutter two weeks ago which has 3 mm radius blades on one side and 5 mm - on another. And replaceable blades 4 and 6 mm radius.
mtmwood I hadn't known that. Do you find having a shaper more useful than having a router table? I could gain some shop space by having a saw/shaper combo and getting rid of the router table if that makes sense.
Yes, of course. The shaper is much better than router table. Power, speed, quality and so on. Some projects can not be made on router table. The cutters are expensive but you will save in the future because they can work long time. Sometimes I use router. A month ago I bought cheap router with table for some small works. I will show it in my next videos. Combo is a good choice to save space. If the transformation is fast and easy.

Noticed that the rip fence on your table saw does not go past the blade as do most saws in US. Is that typical for Russian models? Can you comment on pros and cons of this.
mtmwood No, I am talking about the fact that on your setup the work piece clears the fence right after it goes thru the blade. On the vast majority of saws I have seen, the rip fence extends the full length of the table and the work piece stays in contact with the fence past the blade and rive knife all the way to the far end of table.
Yes, I noticed it. I have adjustable rip fence. I make it short when I saw lumber. Long rip fence will jam the blank. When I need to cut large plywood I make it long. It is very useful.
mtmwood To Allen: Almost all the Euro sliders have this feature. As long as the fence ends just short of the center point of the blade, it eliminates the possibility of kickback. It's very useful when cutting several pieces (like for cutting boards) without fear of them getting trapped.

thank you so much you solved my problem exactly. i was trying to wrap my head around how i was going make 3/4 stock into a 3x3 solid leg. this is way easier than 4 - 45 degree sections put together (woodmagazine.com) way
I copied your technique but used the 45 degree method, since I only had plywood available to me. It turned out beautiful, though I do admit having to redo 2 or 3 parts since I made mistakes with my angle. Thanks!
