Hunted deer for 20 years have quite a few big bucks.. hunt next to down trees on the ground turkey chair. I only carry a knife rope compass and a extinguisher buck call. In a red head fannypack. My knife of choice is a buck 113.

Have never used a backpack hunting. I have an large fanny pack I’ve had for decades. Check your orange stuff with a black light . If it glows ditch it , it’ll glow to the deer as well . There are different dyes used for orange. Make or buy some reflective tacks , they come in handy. TP is handy for the obvious reason but is also good for marking blood. A roll of flagging tape is also handy, at least in our woods . Tink’s 69 is a given . May want to get a drag bag or tampon on a string ( ziploc for storage is advisable 😁) Good luck

Your on the right track. I like good old Tinks #69 when pre rut starts.

I strongly suggest tp as well. Obviously for hygiene but also good marking blood. I always bring at least 3 calls with me as well from archery to muzzleloader. They are a grunt, doe blech, and antlers to rattle. You're hunting my home state (PA), so rifle season is right to the end of the rut. At this stage your bucks are gonna be on the prowl for last minute does, and to establish dominance on younger bucks. The peak is the last week of October and the first week of November(based on weather conditions too, ive had bucks chasing clear into December because of the warm falls we've had)

A friend of mine that did a fair bit of hunting and a lot deer processing for others used a buck 110 to process deer. His advise "keep the knife edge off the bone and you won't need to touch up the edge as often".

Take a pen to fill out your tags!! Take a small compass if you plan on walking a lot to help use your maps, especially if you’re not familiar with the property. Take a folding saw for making ground blinds and clearing shooting lanes. A small battery to charge your phone if it dies. Take some 550 chord. If you use a portable tree stand you shouldn’t climb the tree with the weapon in your hands, you can leave the gun on the ground and haul it up to you when you get settled. Take a few zip ties, they can help attach the tags to the deer or, depending on how you were taught, help you clean the deer to keep viscera or urine from getting into the body cavity when you’re cleaning your harvests. Finally! A 1/2 roll of toilet paper! I sucks cutting off your underwear!! Lol

Fixed blade with a gut hook is what I always use. Folders get nasty. One thing I always have and always use is a small plastic trash bag. After the kill my wipes, gloves and bloody knife go in the bag then in my pack. Just keeps everything clean. Good luck this season. 🦌

Looks like a good system. Cold weather might be tough with that pack. I have the F1 mainframe and different size packs. You will learn that dragging a dear 2 miles is not pleasant. That’s one reason I use a bigger frame pack. Your knife system will work. I’ve used a bunch of different ones from a Swiss Army knife to a 6” fixed blade. I have used a browning folding knife that has a saw, gut hook with a rounded tip and a regular knife blade for about 20 years. It is the best thing I’ve found.

I hope you had a successful hunting trip. I have a couple different shooting sticks and I can't remember ever using one to actually take a shot. Seems like when that time comes to shoot a deer I am in a situation where I have a tree to lean against or a rail if I'm in my treestand or I'll rest my elbow on my knee if I'm on the ground. But I'm sure I'll still bring one of them with me on my next hunt. :) Thanks for all of your informative videos reviewing pack gear and your advice on what a person may need out in the woods, very enjoyable to watch and listen to. Take care!

Enjoy your videos, I got a comment, make sure you go hunting with an experienced deer hunter, ask them to check your gear out before you hit the woods. You may be able to lighten your load. I have always brought along a way to sharpen my cutting tools, deer processing can dull a blade quickly. Have never used any of the items in your kill bag kit. I've always just gutted the deer and got it home to process the meat as quick as possible. Good luck hunting, but mainly enjoy your time in the outdoors.

Nice pack and setup but the size of the bucks is a bit much if just looking across a gully I would go with something smaller or even a monocular like what you would use for bird watching I carry besides a folding knife a fixed blade hunting knife with a gut hook on the back side of the blade tip and small hatchet combo it works great . You can open the deer up and use the folding knife for the tighter inside work and the hat get is used for splitting the pelvic bone you just baton it thrue also you don't mushroom the back of your knife doing so the combo I have is from hunter specialities with large comfortable rubberized grips that are cheap keyed for non slip. I would also add a dose bloat can it helps during the rut and during gun season. Nice monopod gun rest it will help steady your shot. I would add some large heavy duty ziplock bags to your setup to also harvest the heart and liver if you plan to keep them. Also I have found a good heavy duty orange rain protector pack cover that works good or if you can sew or your wife will do so you can go to a fabric shop and pick up a heavy duty ripstop material in florescent orange and add sewen in paracord ties and fit it to your pack in size to tie to the bottom and top of your pack at the outer edges and save the orange vest for your self that is what I do. I also use 2 hats depending on how cold it is a ball cap style and a tobegin style orange for colder also if you can find one I like to get a military style cold weather that with the ear muffs built in that fold up or down that tie instead of snap in place that way like me you can adjust them to your neck I am also a big man and can not stand something tight against my neck and chin ( feels like I am strangling my self ) and you can put the orange toboggan hat over it also if you do get one get it with the fold down bill to shield your eyes from bright sunlight. Spare flash light is a must good idea for the one you are using with the three different color settings where can I find one? Did not see a head light thoe i would get one with a red light setting on it also if interested i found something that also works nice to the party lights that kids get at places like the family dollar and dollar store they come 3-4 on a card sheet in the same amount of colors and always with a red one in the colors they have a band that fits around the finger and are bright in light and very lite weight to carry i put about a half dozen in a small zip lock bag in my possibles bag and use them one ata time to get to my stand in early morning they last a long time and have the batteries self contained and with a little tape you can cut down on the body glare and only have the light come out of the lenses and instead of the whole body also. I would also add emergency shelter stuff just in case I have gotten turned around before while hunting and had to make a emergency super shelter before and if packed right your pack will hold it or at least get an emergency reusable tube tent with tie down doors it will help protect from the elements and reflects body heat back k paired with an emergency bivie bag it could save your life if needed ( better to have and not need instead of need and not have ) also what about a small firs kit and cook kit for heat or hot meal if needed I am putting one together that is nice for cooking that can use multie types of fuel from twigs to nesbit or home made fuel tabs to mini alchahole stove, all carried in a small plastic case ( stove and all except twigs they are all over the woods ) and you can use either a small mess kit to cook in or canteen cup to cook or make a hot drink.

Like the silent material of pack. Still looking for a good pack...

Have the same pack for day hikes. Get something to sit on. I've got a small turkey hunting seat, small mesh seat with angle legs that fold up and has a sling you can throw over your shoulder or attach to your pack. Rain gear at least in your truck. I toss a paperback book in my pack, keeps me from falling asleep.
Where you hunting in Ohio? If your down by Athens county hit me up.

When deciding on a knife It really depends on what game you’re hunting. For deer I use the Outdoor Edge Razor Pro in blaze orange. It has a gut blade to zip open the cavity and a replaceable razor sharp blade for field dressing. It comes with a rubberized non slip handle. I also take my ESEE Izula 2 which is also more than enough for field dressing deer. For Hog/Wild Pig hunting the hide is much thicker the Raptorazor has a great gut hook for that. Also has razor sharp replaceable blades. Good luck Wendell!!

As far as your pack goes it's good you stayed away from Velcro closers, you can muffle a zipper and quick relaese buckles but I can't tell ya how many times I've gone hunting and someone rips open a velco pocket or pouch and all the deer you couldn't see just moments ago are now running away, velcro is not hunting friendly. Good luck with your hunt this season.

Once you think you’re in great shape, drag a deer a few hundred yards and reassess your opinion!
Good luck buddy, hit me up if you need a spot or two up here.
