its been almost 7 years for me 3 vertebrae in my neck L5 S1 lower back Fused You forgot to mention how these fusions put extra stress on the fauset joints causing arthritis and lots of new pain also fusing L5 to S1 puts a lot of extra stress on your sacroiliac joint causing a whole new set of issues . and lots of pain. Ask me how I know this🥵🥶🥴
Update 6.27.24 got my latest MRI cause I can't walk more then a 100 feet without having to sit down.i know have adjacent segment disease in the two disc above my fusion and I also have faucet joint disease to go along with.Good times ahead
I had spinal fusion at 16. I am now 35 and have loved going to the gym etc but recently I am getting repetitive problems with my SI joint. Its terrible
Diagnosed with Segment Adjustment Syndrome just recently had injection on the L5 which helped some but they think the real painn generator is my right si joint and pain going down the front/side of my right leg.
I have had L4 to L5 TLIF fusion. If I had not had this surgery...the sciatica pain would have kept me from functioning anywhere close to normal.
what about L5 S1 when you have a pars defect on both sides?

Does adjacent segment disease always happen? Im 33 i have hereditary stenosis , my doctor says i need a laminectomy and fusion in l3 l4 l4 l5 im really scared.
I had laminectomy and fusion on L3, 4 & 5 plus I also have had fusion on my neck and cervical spine. I know that it is scary but if needed there are not many options for a better life and staying out of a wheelchair. I am doing pretty good. It is not easy but once you get through the first few weeks you start to feel hope. Good luck to you and lastly, much depends on the surgeon. It is so important. Adjacent disease does not always happen according to what I have researched. Take care!
I had TLIF surgery and can still tie my shoes. I can't bend over as far but can still squat lower than I ever could bend. This doctor denies that spinal fusion does work or insurance companies wouldn't pay for it. Some of his treatments sound like they border on being experimental if they aren't covered by insurance.
1:04 he literally says: 'spinal fusion surgery has been a lifesaver for many people' , so how does he 'deny that spinal fusion does work' ? Your comment is totally senseless, you did not understand simple and clear explanation from the doctor.

@savedbygrace745 How did the surgery ruin your life? I'm getting this surgery in a month, I'm a fireman, I work with 4 other fireman that got this surgery also and they all said it saved their life and they are happy they got the surgery and it's been over 10 yrs for all of them.
If you only fusion one or two levels most people are fine and move on. For me they fused 13 levels. My body doesn’t move properly anymore because it’s so rigid. I constantly have anxiety about small things like getting in and out of cars or sitting on a couch. I urge you to be very cautious. The sad part is I did not even need the surgery, I had kyphosis with a 54 degree, which is not so bad.
@jonathanshiff562 I'm sorry about your experience, I truly hope things get better. I'm in a lot of pain now and I've exhausted all options I do have good days and able to still do my job but I have a lot of bad days and constant flare ups that are debilitating, I just don't know what else to do at this point. I would only be getting L5-S1 Alif 360 fusion so it's only 1 level fusion, but I am worried it might not work and be worse off. Thanks for messaging back I hope things get better for you.
