- The #YalePeabodyRenovation is allowing us to get closer than ever to the world-famous mural "The Age of Reptiles" by Rudolph F. Zallinger.
Filmed for the annual meeting of The Society for the Preservation of Natural History Collections, Yale Peabody Museum conservator Mariana Di Giacomo takes you inside the protective scaffolding we've placed around the mural during renovation construction. She'll take you up close and personally introduce you to a number of the depicted dinosaurs and reptiles, including the Tyrannosaurus rex that inspired the original Godzilla.
Zallinger's masterpiece depicts over 300 million years of prehistoric life and took him nearly five years to complete. At 110 feet long and 16 feet tall, we invite everyone to visit it again or for the first time when we reopen in 2024.

Thank you so much! I always wanted to see this mural, but never had the chance. In 1962 I received a gift; a LIFE Special Edition for Young Readers, The World We Live In. Many of the illustrations were by Rudolph F. Zallinger. At 6 years of age, it sparked my interest in science. I still have this book and love going through it reminiscing.
I remember that book.
I spent hours lost in that illustration as a child, I didn't know it was a mural!
Hermmoso mural, conocí un fragmento por una estampilla postal de USA, la cual tambien es bellisima...gracias por el recorrido.
Interesting.
So interesting! Thank you for sharing this!!
