My daughter is 19. She was upset that this boy didn't text her back. I told her, never initiate texts with a boy, unless you're saying the following: see you in a bit, I'm on my way, I got home safe. Never text hi, hey, wyd. It screams, I have nothing better to do and I want your attention.
Well to be honest this depends on the nature of the relationship . If its her boyfriend, I see no reason why she cant check in to see what or how he's doing . If its early days but the guy shows keen and respectful interest I dont see why not either because it goes both ways and the guy might say, oh well she's not interested in me at all because I am always the one having to initiate conversation . She never messages to see how Im doing etc.
My mom always told me there's no need to text a guy i got home safe or im on my way too, unless he asked. And to always end chat first. Sometimes I defer, but I always feel better when I have the upper hand.

Thank you for posting this, although I feel like I'm done texting men if they react this way. It seems like a woman can't be authentic around men. It turns me off, you know? If I have to wait too long for him to read my message, I don't think he is interested. Women work as well, we get tired as well, introverted women stay in their caves as well. But I will always respond to someone I care about. I expect the same thing. We can all respond and text we are very tired and will interact later. If it feels too hard, it means it's time to look for someone who can communicate more clearly. I'm disappointed.

I used to think that about grammar, now I have a brain injury I do make mistakes in grammar and not notice, I learned society needs to take a chill pill on that one.
I have three sons, and I raised them to NEVER be rude, "superior," or demanding to a girl!! There's absolutely no excuse! Thankfully, they are amazingly kind, respectful, and caring. I say it's because they were raised by their divorced single mother since before any of them were old enough for kindergarten (who's had 35 serious surgeries and counting). I taught them to have mutual respect, not her submission!

oh so true, and naughty convos before you've even met them, i want to have adult/open factual discussions about all topics including sex because it seems like an adult thing to do to communicate and make sure all are on the same page and comfortable, but they seem to think it's an invite, so I don't know what to do there.
I agree to all, except number 6. I am a person with slow mind. Whenever I try to discuss something serious orally, the other person misunderstands me, changes the subject or dismisses me altogether. So writing a long text is my only chance to explain myself and make myself clear.

You are so right on this! My long distance boyfriend hates texting because things get taken the wrong way, and we always end up arguing. I wish we could text without this happening, but unfortunately it can't. We have decided to only text very short texts, and not go on and on. It's hard, but we do see each other once a month and talk on the phone 5 nights a week, and that is much better for our relationship!

As usual I appreciate and welcome your insight . Texts have their place for facilitating quick messages as a method of communication and that is it . Anything that requires serious and consistent back and forth dialogue should be done by the phone or in person so there is no miscommunication of what is being said . Texts cannot portray tone and emotion and therefore lends to a lot of assumptions being made which are not always good and creates misunderstandings.
The spelling and abbreviations drive me nuts if it’s consistent. Ur, K, etc And if someone doesn’t know the difference between your, you’re, they’re, etc 🤨
I’m so glad I’ve detached from this texting conversation business. I no longer consider it to be effective communication. I don’t text like that anymore. In the other hand long story short, I recently blocked 🚫 a guy who kept texting me often, late and wanted deep connection when I’d already told him I’m not interested in that. I muted his texts but noticed them in my WhatsApp. It was so annoying. I decided to put an end to it
This was interesting and valuable! Thank you. Here's two complaints I have for men texting women: 1. I don't like it if a man texts me using AI. I don't want to talk to a bot. I can't get to know him and feel that his text doesn't mean anything to me because he's not giving me his feelings or reponses if he has to has to use a bot. I can always tell. 2. Grammar means a lot to me. If I haven't met a man yet, then his texts show me if we are going to be compatable or are too different. I'm not saying I would look down on him, it's just that I'm a teacher and mistakes are fine but not when his grammar is always wrong.

This really helped me. I was raised when things were just beginning to change. It took me a while to get used to calling boys when I was a teenager. But then I developed the habit of getting too clingy. I appreciate these guidelines so I can restrain myself.
In texting back and forth between guy friends (just friends mind you) I get discouraged about writing a lengthy text...& when I call no answer so I end up leaving a message stating I know you are there so why didn't you pick up the phone? Texting is another level of controlling someone. It's a lazy relationship binder. There's no give & take.
I got really overdosed with Gifs lately from a guy. Cat gifs do amuse me, but I wasn’t getting much else, tho the aim was to make me laugh which wasn’t a bad motive. So I just sent very short answers or none at all and eventually he asked if I was ok and got very worried.so that got a swift reassurance from me saying “yes’m ok , too many gifs” and he made the effort to call and talk. He genuinely does struggle with spelling, but now makes much more effort to send a proper message. My advice is, if in doubt don’t text at all, and absolutely not to get his attention or check up on him. It looks desperate so a turn off. He will get in touch you when he’s ready, and if he doesn’t, ignore him and get busy with other things in life which make you a more diverse and interesting person. Always good to be just a little elusive without being rude or cold. A fine line sometimes.
I admit I need to make changes, but when there are people pretending and truly being fake and acting as if they are perfect that they don't ever need to take on any accountability, that everything they ever told me and that they are presenting to others is nothing but a lie, (and you know exactly who he is)! I don't mind texting first to be honest. I'm confident with who I am and I don't like thinking or planning too much about when I should text or not. I think when we begin to plan too much then we aren't authentic anymore. But if you see the person does not really respond then respect yourself enough to pull back. I feel I am a sociable person and I like to make an effort as i don't expect a guy to be the only one making an effort. It should be equal. But yes, I definitely do not believe in sending nude images. There's no need when those things are more special in real when you're with the person. The things that annoy me about a guy in texts would be when he plays the hot and cold game and also when he is trying to be extra intelligent with his vocabulary if that is not who he really is.
I agree… we should not spend too much time overthinking, it just makes things awkward and is anxious. Worst case scenario, he won’t reply. If a potential relationship fails because of who texted who first, then it would never work anyway.
Since real and masculine men are "Hunters" let them hunt you. If you don`t give them the chance to hunt you, they will lose their interesst in you. Otherwise only very feminine men will fall for you. And who wants to be with a feminine man?
Yea talk about mixed messages, another guy was saying 'we have to be our authentic selves' and now this one sounds like games don't send this or that. Trying to be ourselves while changing ourselves to fit what guys want, na, I'll be me and they are on board or not, there's no point changing ourselves to keep a guy around, if he wouldn't stay around for the authentic us, better to know sooner right.

Ok, too many funnies. Thats hard because i am funny. But i think i can try harder to keep my jokes in my head and not spill them out. I only do abbreviations when I'm in a hurry, sometimes spelling gets past me because of auto correct most times, but i try to fix it when i see it. I also use emojis. I think sometimes i text something and then a person will think I'm being serious and im not for example, so i put emojis so I don't have to fight anyone but i also don't want to run a guy off because of it so I'll work something out so i don't ruin my chances anymore than i probably already have.. Thanks. I learned some valuable things just now from your audio. I realize that women like questions better than men such as "how was your day?". Men DO like their cave time for sure, especially late at night, they are unwinding. I'm 57 years old and NEVER too old to learn about men!
I say these works only for a certain type of connection. Most of the men i I talk to..LIKE late night convo starters. Also most I deal with can only get deep in text, due to not being available during the day or in person. Also, the pic thing..sometimes thats all they want and you want from them. I say figure out what type of relationship you both want and then proceed. The double text thing is always a no. The grammer, sure. The always being funny..also depend on what you want. The guys I chat with are always making jokes..the differences is they send it and dont need to laugh react their own jokes. It also depends on the culture. I find these don't fit as well, if you are talking to someone in the UK..so keep that in mind. I think these are mostly for the younger generation and those looking for love. We dont all want that.
How about funny pictures or jokes I share from Internet? Once in a while I send him hilarious statements or dialogs that I find humorous and his reaction is always 😂
I used to text long paragraphs lol now I just keep it short and simple like a man haha when you do the same thing back to them you will see the same reaction you had when they treat you the same way. I learned to treat a man how he treats me. If he goes on days without a reply he better not expect me to reply right away when he finally gets back to me. If he don't reply in a reasonable amount of time and just start replying back like nothing happened and have no reasonable explaination then he is getting ignored too.

Here's my question for being the one who always takes the initiative to text: my BF work at night shift so his time is different from mine. But in the morning, I always take the initiative to text because it is the time he is out of work especially I learn recently how he looks forward to seeing my messages after he works. My messages are always random: anything I know that I can say so he will forget the stress in his work (TSR work is so stressful). My question is, should I stop this habit given your advice in no.2?
This is a peculiar scenario. If he shows up every day for you in other ways then I think a text message like that every morning is appreciated. Still, I' d personally not do it every few weeks to see if he reaches out first.

Texts have their place for facilitating quick messages as a method of communication and that is it . Anything that requires serious and consistent back and forth dialogue should be done by the phone or in person so there is no miscommunication of what is being said . Texts cannot portray tone and emotion and therefore lends to a lot of assumptions being made which are not always good and creates misunderstandings.
The spelling and abbreviations drive me nuts if it’s consistent.

Here's two complaints I have for men texting women:
1. I don't like it if a man texts me using AI. I don't want to talk to a bot. I can't get to know him and feel that his text doesn't mean anything to me because he's not giving me his feelings or reponses if he has to has to use a bot. I can always tell.
2. Grammar means a lot to me. If I haven't met a man yet, then his texts show me if we are going to be compatable or are too different. I'm not saying I would look down on him, it's just that I'm a teacher and mistakes are fine but not when his grammar is always wrong.

Texting is another level of controlling someone. It's a lazy relationship binder. There's no give & take.
I got really overdosed with Gifs lately from a guy. Cat gifs do amuse me, but I wasn’t getting much else, tho the aim was to make me laugh which wasn’t a bad motive.
So I just sent very short answers or none at all and eventually he asked if I was ok and got very worried.so that got a swift reassurance from me saying “yes’m ok , too many gifs” and he made the effort to call and talk.
He genuinely does struggle with spelling, but now makes much more effort to send a proper message.
My advice is, if in doubt don’t text at all, and absolutely not to get his attention or check up on him. It looks desperate so a turn off.
He will get in touch you when he’s ready, and if he doesn’t, ignore him and get busy with other things in life which make you a more diverse and interesting person.

I don't mind texting first to be honest. I'm confident with who I am and I don't like thinking or planning too much about when I should text or not. I think when we begin to plan too much then we aren't authentic anymore. But if you see the person does not really respond then respect yourself enough to pull back. I feel I am a sociable person and I like to make an effort as i don't expect a guy to be the only one making an effort. It should be equal. But yes, I definitely do not believe in sending nude images. There's no need when those things are more special in real when you're with the person.
The things that annoy me about a guy in texts would be when he plays the hot and cold game and also when he is trying to be extra intelligent with his vocabulary if that is not who he really is.
I agree… we should not spend too much time overthinking, it just makes things awkward and is anxious. Worst case scenario, he won’t reply. If a potential relationship fails because of who texted who first, then it would never work anyway.

Ok, too many funnies. Thats hard because i am funny. But i think i can try harder to keep my jokes in my head and not spill them out.
I only do abbreviations when I'm in a hurry, sometimes spelling gets past me because of auto correct most times, but i try to fix it when i see it. I also use emojis. I think sometimes i text something and then a person will think I'm being serious and im not for example, so i put emojis so I don't have to fight anyone but i also don't want to run a guy off because of it so I'll work something out so i don't ruin my chances anymore than i probably already have..

It also depends on the culture. I find these don't fit as well, if you are talking to someone in the UK..so keep that in mind. I think these are mostly for the younger generation and those looking for love. We dont all want that.

I used to text long paragraphs lol now I just keep it short and simple like a man haha when you do the same thing back to them you will see the same reaction you had when they treat you the same way. I learned to treat a man how he treats me. If he goes on days without a reply he better not expect me to reply right away when he finally gets back to me. If he don't reply in a reasonable amount of time and just start replying back like nothing happened and have no reasonable explaination then he is getting ignored too.

But in the morning, I always take the initiative to text because it is the time he is out of work especially I learn recently how he looks forward to seeing my messages after he works. This is a peculiar scenario. If he shows up every day for you in other ways then I think a text message like that every morning is appreciated. Still, I' d personally not do it every few weeks to see if he reaches out first.

After we broke up I found out he’s an avoidant so that explains a lot.
