Thanks so much for posting this! There is so little film of the championship season in 1982, of the year Brad Lackey won. It was a big deal to me as a kid and it’s great to see video of any round from 1982👍
If you think about it, Brad Lackey's accomplishment is that much more impressive because no other american has won the world championship in the premier class. And it doesnt look like its going to happen ever again! Brad Lackey deserves a lot more credit and recognition for this feat. As a kid I followed his career through the GP's as he rode for three different manufacturers in his quest for the title. I would read in Cycle News of the knockdown, brutal battles that he had with the european riders, especially Malherbe. Hat's off to you, Brad!
I was so happy for Brad Lackey winning the championship that year, he deserved it so much...and he deserved to be the first American. Danny Laporte almost took that honor away from him, which would have been a real shame given all the years of effort that Lackey put in. It was a big deal, an American winning the world championship, especially on a 500. My favorite two world champions of motocross are Brad Lackey and Akira Watanabe. They both really worked hard and were underdogs.
The year bad Brad did it! I remember when I finally found out lackey won the championship, ill never forget it! I was racing RM125’s in Japan that year and wore all FOX gear because of bad brad!
