Very helpful. THANK YOU very much. I had the identical problem with the same faucet (even same bronze color). I replaced all the parts from the Kohler GP30420 O-Ring Seal Kit for less than $7.00 and now all is nice and dry. This is one of the best "How to" RUclips videos I've seen.
I have the exact same faucet with the exact same problem. Changed the ceremic cartridge to no avale. Would not have guessed teh entire faucet sliid up and off. Will try tomorrow. Thanks for the video. Steve
I wasnt able to get my spout off, but I didnt have a leak, it was just real hard to turn. The rest of the disassembly somehow resolved the issue. The video really helped demystify the process. Thanks for posting.
I have the same problem same faucet. I could not get the body off with the faucet still installed. I had to remove it and remove the cartridge then use an aluminum punch to beat on the brass while holding the body. I can echo the comment that scale buildup in the cylinder is the culprit. My o-rings look good. Thanks for the vid. It gave me the insight to take it apart. I would have never guessed the body just pulls off.
Thank you so much for this video. I have the same faucet same problem and I had ordered the parts from Kohler's warranty website and I have been just hanging on to them for several weeks. I did not know how to change out the parts. I will finally be fixing my faucet today.
A big time thanks to you. I have the exact same faucet & the exact same problem but never even thought about the o-rings. Replaced them this morning & all is well (so far). However, of course, the old shut-off valve underneath the sink started leaking continuously through the handle, so that got replaced too. Thanks again, hope it holds for a while because I'm cheap & don't want to buy a new one.
I realize this is an old video but it's worth a shot...this faucet has a base ring that the main housing sits upon. It needs to be removed to be able to access the supply line connections. I can't seem to find out how this is done. There are two screws on the underside (next to the connections) but I can't move them. Thanks.
Thanks for the kind words. One of my mantras is that a handyman is just someone who has screwded up enough times that they finally get it right. Its very true with this repair.
Just found a little scaling and my only 1 year old faucet sanders it and applied some vaseine, it seems to be fixed, Just wanted to thank you for the video, I thought the cartridge was the culprit, had to get all the way through your video to beleve it was the o-rings. Tim
Thanks for your comment. I always say a handyman is just someone who screwed up enought times that he finally got it right. But here's a basic rule: if it is leaking from the spout it is the cartridge. If it is leaking at the base or under the handle its the "O" rings. Keep it up; You're learning.
Nice view inside that housing. Mine is leaking at the swivel base like others have noted. Looks like I can access everything from the top - sure can't get to it from below with the deep sinks and pulling all that drain plumbing to get to bare granite would be nightmare. Thanks for sharing.
My faucet is not leaking,l but it is hard to rotate the spout from right to left and back to right. Ist is possible that there is a build up of scale inside at the o-rings restricting this movement?
Pretty good Max, however. Chad, below me has a valid point. I second that. Also if you could please inform the audience that a non-petroleum based grease is good to apply when reassembling the unit.
Kohler does offer a kit with the o-rings and the plastic bearings. Some of these faucets come with a lifetime warranty and they may send you the parts at no cost. One important step I didn't see here is to grease the new o-rings and bearings with silicone grease (plumber's grease). This will extend the life of the o-rings, and make the faucet swivel easier. Otherwise a great video.
Thank you. Very nicely done and instructive. I have a rough spot on the base of the faucet that appears to interfere with the bottom gasket sealing properly. It's not scale deposits. Any suggestions? Could it be possibly smoothed with some fine sandpaper?
High calcium content in the water is abrasive and wears on o-rings, bearings. BUT...single handle fauces have been a problem since my house was new, 35 years ago. DELTA brand through-out. I still believe they should give better service now; but they don't. Example: One recent replacement, I went to Kohler brand (China) and within 18 months, the same kind of leaks really got flowing at the kitchen sink (all of which was plumber installed). Same repair ritual. DYI, Kohler parts free!
Having HARD water that rubber handle screen, sprayer, gets clogged and I soak it in vinegar and then try and free the holes of scale to little success. Anyone know if it is a replacement part and how to remove it. i see 4 little notches around the separator. and have no idea what tool to use to pull it off with.
Good video.... but one problem. You did not rotate the spout at the end of your repair. That's were the problem was, not in the handle. In my cases just turning on ..hot then cold did not make the faucet leak, turning the spout, left to right did bring on the leak. I did just as you did in this repair video but to ensure the problem was truly fixed, you need to turn the spout left to right to make sure no water is getting buy those O rings.
You might as well try the sandpaper. My experience has been that if there are gouges or rut lines in the cylinder that they cant be smoothed well enough to get the "O" rings to reseal.Let me know how it goes

i have a KOHLER R72508-cp-CP that needs a new valve/diverter but i can’t get the damn thing apart. the spout won’t come off. there are two indents as if a special tool unscrews it but it won’t turn. how do these things come apart? this one does not have a large nut to unscrew and looks like it’s sealed but the valve has to come out some how how do i change that valve? please and thank you
Max Lemberger: it seemed really strange that this faucet couldn’t be taken apart for service, but i got it apart with Kohler tech support. I do have to say that as i was on the phone i did look closer and saw two flat spots opposite of each other that you’re supposed to clamp onto with a pair of channel locks. These are so small that it’s just not obvious. i’d say it’s pretty ignorant of those engineers to design something like that. But a new valve is in the way and the faucet is apart.
I have the very same faucet and same issue! where would i find new O rings and what should i ask for? is home depot an option? your quick response would mean the world! many thanks in advance. awesome video!
Over time the hard water practically fuses the compression ring. You may have to crank pretty hard to break it free. As I mentioned it looks as iff someone had cranked on this one pretty hard. Try spraying the nut with a calcium dissolver- anything acidic will work. I've even used lime juice.
In my case it was a leaky 'faucet valve'. If it's a Kohler (as was mine) it's guaranteed for life. They Fedex'd the part for free and in about 20 minutes I had it replaced.
Yes, I thought better of Kohler to have this happen. One would think the years making faucets they could tackle the hard water problem affecting their faucets.
The new generation of ceramic cartridges is supposed to be more resistant to hard water wear but I have had little experience with them. Maybe it means they are working.. I am not aware of any innovations in the "O" rings.
I wanted to apply silicon to the inside and check the o-rings, but I could not remove the housing. It wouldn't budge. I gather there's too much of a build up of minerals on the inside. It's only about seven years old, and it has a lifetime guarantee. But if I cannot remove the housing to perform maintenance, that's it.

Casey Hunt glad it helped. Sometimes the unit is too corroded and has to be replaced. Good for you for trying.

Much thanks ! Clear and concise as well as humorous captions . Usual in my repairs of this faucet .

Thanks so much for the tutorial! Cleaned the base and replaced the rings on ours. It did the trick!

Love how you explain everything so clearly! THANK YOU!
Glad it helped. Too many fixable appliances get tossed for lack of proper repair information.

For the record, this faucet comes with a lifetime warranty. I waiting delivery of my 3rd FREE rebuild kit in about 20 years of service.
This was a great help in fixing my faucet - thank you!

I love the humorous captions.
That dig at Morton Thiokol killed me 😂
Great video.

Hey dodo. Koehler faucets are life time garranteed. Call them n they will send you a rebuild kit. They have great customer service.

Gino Asci some times you just throw in the towel and get a new faucet. Give yourself points for trying.

You mentioned that you already loosened the bonnet, however, how did you do so b/c I am unable to get mine off. Thank you.

My faucet didn't come off as easy.... It's like it's glued on but calcified....
Would clr remove it

You didn't test for leaks at the base of the spout when it's swiveled.
What hardware store did you get those O Rings/Gaskets? Went to two and they did not have the size.
Menards, Home Depot, Lowes usually have the the Kohler kit with 2 O rings and 2 Nylon bearings, including some grease.
Also, what did you use to remove the calcium deposits?
Carl W
Any commercial calcium cleaner. Anything acidic will do in a pinch. I've used lemon juice.
Will hope that this will work. Quite an expensive faucet, not that old. Disappointed in its performance.
Yes, I thought better of Kohler to have this happen. One would think the years making faucets they could tackle the hard water problem affecting their faucets.
FYI.. Kohler offers life time warranty on Kitchen faucets

Gene Seiler after a while the deposits make it nearly impossible to remove the housing. Sometimes replacement is the best option.
👍
Morton Thiokol? ... Cold shot young fella ....... NASA................. JRW
He threw more shade than a frozen Florida orange tree.
Water runs out faucet will not shut off kohler
