I've lived here almost my whole life. I'm 21 now, and I remember when the city center park was built. I've been there a couple times now, and the icecream place Scoops is great. It is pretty hidden though, it's to the right of the public library.
The restored event center "The Dottie" at city center is the old gymnasium for the school that once was in that spot. The gym had beautiful heavy wooden floors, unseen for many years after it was closed. Fortunately, at least some of the floor was preserved in the restoration. The prop department for the TV show Stranger Things (and probably The Walking Dead) used to park the show's vehicles at the bus parking lot, where "The Bus Barn" is at City Center. Even the iconic Stranger Things school bus was there. Every time I passed that place, there were different cars and trucks and military vehicles, sometimes a dozen or more. Many scenes for ST, TWD, and Marvel movies were filmed around Fayetteville. At least once a year, you may see over a dozen black '70s Firebirds running through Fayetteville with police escort as they tour some of the filming locations for "Smokey and the Bandit".
